INTRODUCTION
Personal and professional development (PDP) is defined as the plan made improving
existing skills and capabilities. Activities those are included under PDP supports in enhancing
self awareness and identity and developing talent and potential. These activities also supports in
building human capital and facilitating employability in the entity. Quality of life is also
enhanced through this and acquisition of skills and knowledge is done. It supports for career
advancement and personal development. PDP plans supports in increasing confidence in existing
skills and gaining qualities and attributes for developing career of own choice. Present report
describes about significance of personal and professional development plan in health care sect
TASK 1
Comparison of personal values
Personal values and principles supports in delivering better and effective services to
patients. National Health Service (NHS) is a public sector organization that renders health care
services to the people (NHS UK. 2016). Personal values help me in delivering effective services
to patients in the organization. I believe that it becomes my moral and ethical responsibility to
complete my assigned work in effective way. Some of my own principles and values that are
posses by me are as mentioned :-
I am ambitious completing my work and gaining success in my career. I follow discipline
and I am committed towards my work. I believe in giving equal opportunity to staff member for
performing their work. I am hard worker and loyal towards my work and believe in doing my
best. I give respect to my subordinates and seniors and behave with courtesy. I believe that no
discrimination should be made with any individual at the work place on the grounds of sex, race,
religion, ethnicity and financial status. I am strictly against the racial, ethnic and sexual
comments. Abuse of any individual is strictly prohibited and I am accountable for ensuring that
no individual should be harmed and abused in the organization. I believe in giving equal rights to
individuals and maintaining confidentiality of information related to the patients. Principles
define about right way to behave and I believe in treating people with respect. Some factors that
gives influence on personal values includes:-

Culture: - beliefs, values, attitude and norms which are prevailing in the society give impact on
principles and behavior of an individual. Family, ethnicity, beliefs and education affects
personal values and principles. In addition to that employment conditions, age, gender and life
events also impacts principles and values that are possessed by the individual.
Religious beliefs: - traditional and religious values possessed by an individual also influence
principles and values.
Age, gender and ethnicity: - These elements also influence principles and beliefs possessed by
an individual.
Political views and ethical background: - It also affects the principles and values and due to that
thoughts and behavior of an individual gets influenced.
Personal experience: - It also influences the personal values and principles and due to that overall
behavior and personality gets influenced
Influence of personal culture and experience
Personal culture and experience impact own role in supporting users of services in health
care setting. Beliefs and norms that exist in society affect the personal values and beliefs of an
individual. In addition to that, advice and suggestions given by family members also affects the
values and principles of an individual. Some values and principles include equal rights, diversity,
confidentiality and protection from abuse and harm (Zwart, Korthagen and Attema-Noordewier,
2015). 6 C that are used in health and social care for delivering care and support to individual are
as Care, Compassion, Communication, Courage, Commitment and Competence. Previous
experience that has been gained also impacts the current services and care provided to the
individuals. Beliefs and ethnicity and cultural values also affect the principles and personal
values of an individual. I believe in protecting individuals at the health care setting from abuse
and harm so that better care and support can be provided to them. In addition to that, I am
accountable for ensuring that confidentiality and rights of patients should be secured and
information related to them should be kept confidential and protected.
New developments and changes
New developments that are happening in health care industry are supporting in rendering
better care and support to people. New modifications includes legislation, policies, priorities and

research and it is supporting in enhancing standards of services which are provided to individuals
in health care sector. Some legislation that has been developed is as mentioned:-
Mental capacity act 2005
According to the guidelines mentioned under this act, empowerment and protection are
given to people who are unable to take decisions of their own. It supports the individuals in
planning their future and protection is given to adults who are unable to take decisions on their
own (Bogomaz, Kozlova and Atamanova, 2015). It also offers protection to the care workers to
make decisions on behalf of people who lack mental capacity and are in need of care that is
restrictive. In addition to that, the act enables the individuals in making their own decisions about
medical treatment that is required by them. Moreover, the act provides framework that
encapsulates previous good practices.
Equality act 2010
This regulation supports in protecting the individuals against any kind of discrimination
which is made with them. This act also saves a person from harassment and abuse. It is assertive
that no differences should be made with any individual on the grounds of sex, age, religion,
ethnicity and it also supports in protecting individuals from differences that are being made with
them (Owen, Fox and Bird, 2016).
Health and social care act 2012
According to the guidelines mentioned in the act, freedoms have been given to NHS for
making improvements in quality of care that are rendered to the individuals. This act also
supports in providing a regulator to promote economic, efficient and effective provisions.
Care standard act 2012
As per this act distinction between nursing and residential homes has been eliminated and
the entire health care settings are now referred as the Care home. Now health care authorities and
social service departments are not accountable for inspecting care homes. In addition to that,
changes in personal values occur due to overcoming tension between personal values and
principles of good practices. Along with these differences relating to values of others also affect
the personal values. Codes of practices that are carried out at the entity are as follows:-
Protecting the rights of individuals who are taking services in health care setting. Promoting the
independence of service users by protecting them from any kind of harm and abuse.Upholding

There are various issues that are faced while giving care and support to patients in health
care setting. It is assertive that effective and better approaches should be used for resolving the
issues that are faced in the entity. Meetings can be organized and methods can be identified for
resolving the conflicts in effective way (Hirschy, Wilson and Pasquesi, 2015). In addition to that
principles of good practices are also adopted which helps for maintaining peace and harmony at
NHS organization. Good values can be nurtured and standard codes of practices can be adopted
in the enterprise. Moreover, meetings can be organized and all the parties having issues can be
called for resolving the issues. It will support for resolving the situations in better and effective
way.

the care homes. I have made many positive efforts for completing the required work in the
organization. In addition to that I have taken efforts also for making improvements in my weak
performing areas so that I can efficiently perform my assigned work and help others for
completing their work in effective way. I have taken steps for making improvements in my
existing skills that includes communication skills, time management skills and practical technical

skills. I have taken efforts for making improvements in my existing knowledge so that better
solutions can be get for resolving issues that are faced in the organization. I have tried for
developing mutual understanding with other staff members so that team working can be
completed effectively. I tried and made efforts for transferring information effectively so that
data and required knowledge can be transferred effectively.
4.2 Limits of own work
Work role gives impact on the work of others and due to that overall efficiency and
activities gets affected. It is assertive that all the staff members should work in cooperative and
coordinating manner so that better medical services can be rendered to patients. Team working in
the organization gets influenced and impacts are observed on the other team members as well. I
need to work with other staff members and for that I need to have better skills and capabilities. I
need to understand the roles and responsibilities of each job so that I can better give directions
and instructions to service providers of acre home. Lack of proper and effective communication
skills creates barriers in delivering better services and making effective interaction with other
individuals of the acre home. I lack proper knowledge about policies and norms that are used in
the care home and due to which I face difficulties in rendering better services to people.
4.3 Analysis of own role
I am giving services in NHS and positive contribution given by me supports for carrying
out desired functions of the enterprise in effective way. I will make efforts to understand policies
and norms that are used in care home. It will support me for delivering better care and support to
patients and their family members. I will also become capable for running the functional
activities of the organization in effective manner. I will try to make involvement of staff
members so that growth and success of the institution can be ensured. I will try to make staff
members aware about different norms and policies that need to be followed by them. Moreover, I
will try for developing the communication channel so that information and data can be
transferred in effective and advanced manner.
It is vital that I should have proper knowledge about policies and practices that need to be
followed in the care home. I have taken efforts for organizing meetings and open discussion
sessions for minimizing the barriers that are faced while working in the teams. I have organized
role playing sessions and management games so that mutual understanding among staff members

enhances. I try to identify problems that are faced by group members while performing their
work in teams and it supported me in identifying various issues that can be faced by me. I have
tries for making use of innovative and advanced technology for carrying out operational
activities of the care home.
4.4 Improvement in personal contribution
It is assertive that all people working in NHS should give their valuable and positive
support so that better and effective services can be given to people. I can improve my own
contribution by identifying innovative methods and approaches so that better decisions can be
taken for the organization. I can take part in different activities for making improvements in my
weak performing areas. It will support me for taking better and effective work from the team
members. In addition to that I will try to develop mutual understanding with my team members
so that better decisions can be taken and all the functional activities can be performed effectively.
Moreover, I will try to enhance time management skills of my group members so that they can
complete their assigned work on due time. All the initiatives will support me for running
activities of NHS and working in a team in effective way.
CONCLUSION
Summing up the present report it can be concluded that personal and professional
development plan supports for making positive and significant improvement in my weak
performing areas. Holistic plan can be developed so that desired objectives can be achieved
effectively. In addition to that SMART objectives can be prepared so that all the goals can be
achieved on proper time. Effective communication channel can be developed for ensuring
effective team work in the enterprise. In addition to that it is required that proper monitoring of
the personal and professional development plan should be done in effective way so that weak
