Personal statement for a
fellowship in cardiology

Being a simple individual who has grown in aloof circumstances, I have truly admired
the idea of serving humans in the best possible manner. This is however due to some of my
personal experiences that made me think about people living with no medical aids and suffering
terribly without any extended support and assistance of even the governmental bodies of Sudan. I
have closely felt the issues surrounding my homegrown nation with poor health status of public
that has intensely affected the people of Sudan. I being one of those individuals have truly
inspired to serve the society to fulfil such common needs of the individuals going through such
disparity of services. Also, Sudan people seemed completely unaware of relevant health related
practices with a causal outlook, adopting traditional practices with no evidence of its use. This
Due to which, I have truly envisioned to practice medicine and believes it to be the most superior
profession.
Although, I am hereby requesting for a fellowship in cardiology where this particular area
have really fetched my interest during school days when I was largely fascinated by the structure
of the heart and its electrical as well as psychological procedures. My keen interest towards this
field has helped me to secure the position of medical student in one of the top university of my
nation. In which, I choose to study medicines and came across some different and complicated
conditions of heart. I together came across some other complex medical practices with distinct
yet versatile roles played by the cardiologists. This has driven my interest by making it deeper to
learn something more interesting and dive into the facts. Such determined desires of mine
towards learning was also accompanied by the desire of educating others about the same. As a
result, to which, I continued reinforcing my scientific basis with some effective skills of
communication.
This in turn facilitated me to perform excellently and I was soon positioned in the profile
of an instructor as well as a teaching associate. I hereby appreciated arranging small sessions of
teaching for the medical students with a major focus on problem based learning in the field of
cardiology. This practice has led to many other teaching experiences where I also got an
opportunity to work as a facilitator in the development and educational centre of Sudan and
several other universities. It has further enhanced my communication as well as teaching related
skills and before initiating my internship, I got a privileged scope of spending few weeks in the
Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI) of Detroit Medical Centre. Herein, I have closely explored
various cardiovascular conditions that mainly involved cases related to ischemic heart ailments,

peripheral vascular illness and arrhythmias, etc. This in turn has provided me some real insight
on the cardiovascular health of community people along with the type of challenges that are
generally faced by the practitioners like us.
I am thereby requesting to get a fellowship in cardiology that is apparent to assist me in
strengthening my professional abilities to boost up my career in this filed. Also, I aspire to gain
an international experience with improved skills of leadership. This will also help me in getting a
practical experience by together developing cultural proficiency to clearly understand different
socio- economic beliefs of distinct cultures. This is basically on relating to my experiences that I
gained during my internship by handing the most complicated cases of cardiovascular diseases
where I directly cared for the patients in the clinic and learned about echocardiograms as well.
This way, I have tried attaining several clinical skills and experiences to become a
successful cardiologist in the future. It is therefore to succeed in this path and follow my keen
ambitions, I am looking forward to fellowship in cardiology. This will be serve as a base to fulfil
my aspirations by together encouraging my potential to become a successful instructor,
investigator to research more into the field of cardiovascular medicines and a brilliant
cardiologist. However, after attaining a broad experience in the field of teaching, I am keen to
continue in this area and become an efficient instructor and work in academics and enhance
fortify my knowledge in cardiology.
