Personal Statement
One of the primary reasons which make me become a psychiatric mental health nurse
practitioners is that beside the desire to become a nurse, I have been working well with mentally
ill patients, ranging from those with depression to those with bipolar. According to Laurence
(2014), psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners play an integral role in the society because,
in addition to providing care, they help patients and their parents to understand various things
which seems complicated to them. Therefore, this has been one of the factors which have
increased my desire to become a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners because I always
want to health people with mental health illnesses to overcome the problems they experience
Ward (2013) affirms that the desire to become a nurse practitioner comes from various
factors, where some are innate while others come from external factors. My interest to pursue a
career as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner also comes from an innate desire to assist
people and care for them in times of needs. For some years, I have been a person who thrives on
being challenged, and also one who always have new goals to attain. This means that psychiatric
mental health nurse practitioner suites me as few other careers offer as much diversity and
learning opportunities.
Although at first, I wanted to teach mental health at a university, I have an opportunity to
work with a clinic which provides assistance to veterans who have mental health issues. This
opportunity also accelerates my desire to work as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner
because it gives me a chance to attain my desire of providing care to people with mental health
problems.
