Personal Worldview

This article explores the components of personal worldview including philosophy, spirituality, and beliefs. It discusses how spirituality plays an important role in healthcare and how different worldviews relate to concepts of pluralism, scientism, and postmodernism. Every sane person in the world has a certain personal worldview .It is important to
understand the personal worldview because it gives us the scope to assess all the aspects of life.
A personal worldview includes one’s own philosophy, philosophy of life, mindset, outlook, faith
and religion. After conducting my worldview research, I have found that there are many
components, which play a very important role in shaping my thoughts, life decisions’ and
experiences.
Spirituality is a broad concept that has many perspectives .It involves a sense of bonding
or connection with something bigger than we do and it also includes exploration of meaning in
life (Sheldrake, 2013). It can be defined as a unique and universal experience of humans that has
the capability to touch us all. There are several meanings of spirituality, they include sacred,
transcendent and a deep sense of interconnectedness and aliveness. Thus, Spirituality can also be
considered as the inner wish to create bonding with something, which is bigger than the
experience of a person. Spirituality plays an important role in the field of healthcare as it
improves or enhances the recovery and mortality. Spirituality is defined in number of ways as it
is related to the different worldviews .The worldview relates to the concepts of Pluralism,
Scientism and Postmodernism. The concept of pluralism includes the worldview in which the
society members frame their culture on the grounds of acceptance and diversity (Lamont &
Swidler, 2014). The worldview of pluralism emphasizes the importance of tolerance of other
religions but it does not stray from their own beliefs .This worldview endeavors for the benefit of
all and also recognizes that some truth exists in other beliefs. Scientism is a proposition that
conveys that scientific proposal can be utilized for answering and solving all the questions and
issues that are related to values, meaning and existence of God (Sorell, 2013).While dealing
with Scientism, the scientific knowledge is given the priority and authority to comprehend and

interpret all the other forms. The concept of Postmodernism conveys that all the worldviews
have equal right to truth (Lash, 2014). The absolute truth is denied in the worldview of
Postmodernism and it believes that people misuse truth in order to gain power over others. Due
to this idea behind Postmodernism, it is deemed self-defeating and inconsistent.
By prime reality, it is meant that it is the infinite, personal God that has been revealed in
the Holy Scriptures. Prime Reality defines God as the supreme power. Prime Reality defines that
the relation that exists between the man and God is extraordinary as man can have faith and trust
in God whenever they face any problems and can relate to God in their individual way. Religious
pluralism asserts that prime reality includes several ways that leads to the common God. In
scientism, the Prime reality aims to extend in order to widen scientific methods to the society of
human beings .Nature can be defined as the patterns of relationships. This idea is inspired from
the beliefs of the Buddhists, which states that there is an interconnection between all things in the
world. The idea suggests that there are no independent ethos of things but ethos of any given
thing is consists of interconnections with every other thing. Human beings are the creatures that
are created by God. Human beings are extraordinary machines, which are filled with mystery
images of the Supreme Being, God and all humans are created to serve God. Human beings rae
created in such a way that portrays God’s image and possess several attributes that includes
personality, intelligence, morality, creativity and others .In the worldview of postmodernism and
scientism, it is stated that the human beings are created by matter. Death is perceived as a gate
where one can meet God and live an eternal life with him (Doka & Morgan, 2016). At death
whatever happens is a always a mystery. It is believed that the death is not the end of the life
rather it is the commencement of eternal life. After death, it is believed that the human would
face judgment by God. In the worldview of scientism, it is believed that the after death the life

ends and there is no provision for better life after death (Scarre, 2014).There has been no
evidence of life after death . Human beings are deemed façade of God and God provided us the
capability to gain knowledge and learn from God. In the worldview of postmodernism, the truth
behind reality is veiled and concealed and no explanations have been provided. In the worldview
of scientism, the universe is responsible for knowing everything. We, the human beings decide
what is right and what is wrong from the teachings that are imparted by the holy or religious
books like bible and also from the word of God. We learn then moral and values from our
parents and it is then guided by the teachings from the holy books .In the worldview of
scientism, the concept of right and wrong is decided by individuals. In the postmodernism, each
individual develop his or her own moral values although it depends on the fact that how each
individual is raised. Creation, fall and redemption are included in the meaning of human history
(Heller, 2016). God is the Supreme Power and Supreme Being, and God is omnipotent .The main
objective of God was to create human beings and maintain a good relationship with human. God
also provided some guidelines or tools, which are needed to be followed by, bus and if human
beings commit some sins, God is willing to forgive (Cardon, 2013). The postmodernism
worldview believes that the study of an individual’s culture in comparison to other. In the
scientism worldview, the history has no purpose to serve and life will end in the future.
Thus, it can be concluded that human beings have some or other purpose in life
irrespective of their personal worldview. The personal worldview of individuals should be
respected and adored irrespective of the way they are.
