2 PROGRESSIVE REPORT Part 2 Introduction This report consists of the details about the internship program. Being able to justify my choice reflects enhancement of my preconceived skills and knowledge. In this report, I would attempt to establish links between the classes, which I had and the internship program, which I chose. Details of my activities The second part of the report is the turning point in my life. This is because it consists of the reasons why I chose the subject for completing the semester. It also involved the detailed itinerary of my activities. One of the main attractions of this part is the different files, which provided me with the opportunity to work for 16 weeks. Chapter 1: The choice of internship Justifying the choice of internship Fromchildhood,Iloveadventure.IbelievedthatifIdonotdosomething challenging, I would not be able to prove my talents, skills and expertise. I chose journalism for continuing my higher studies. I love writing and believe in exerting my fundamental right of speech. I felt that I was living at a time when I need to confront the harsh realities of life. For this, I chose the professional mobility instead of the academic one. Contact with famous media personnel nullified the need for researching about the prospective place for internship. However, I got the assistance of World Wide Web for enriching my information on the avenues, which would help me to engage with the best universities or institutions. I decided
3 PROGRESSIVE REPORT to focus specifically on the journalistic structure of Bhutan. I got attracted with the cultural heritage of Bhutan, which I wanted to expose before the whole world. Connection between the classes I received and the internship The lessons, which I learnt was not enough for projecting the relationship between my personal development and the internship project. The major drive behind this is the definite structure, which I was to follow for completing the semester. I need to go into flashback for establishing the connection. In my high school, economics and sociology were my subjects. This was before passing out the baccalaureate. My specialization subject was English and German. I took literature for entering into the next grade level. The experience, which I had earned during the tenure of my internship, enriched my knowledge about the foreign journalistic productions. Advancement from internship research to the beginning of professional adventure From the official website, I found that I could work as a freelancer in Royal University of Bhutan. However, as I liked to mix with people from different cultures, I expressed my interest in fieldwork. This was because fieldwork would help me to delve deep into the subject and understand the intensity of the issues, which the community people are facing. This would invoke my emotions through the lens in a better manner. Moreover, I would be able to relate with the minds of the readers in an efficient and effective manner. I think photos are the best means for breaking the language barriers. Therefore, I sent all of the documents to the university officials. After one week, I received a confirmation email consistingoftheacceptanceoftheoffer.Igottheofferletterfordiscoveringthe photojournalist within me.

4 PROGRESSIVE REPORT Chapter 2: Nature of job The photojournalist program My initial job was to assist Sophie Kobiyashi in meetings, conferences, press conferences and taking photos. Along with this, I was also entrusted with the responsibility to accompany the senior journalist in demonstration, rallies and cover the entries of the VIPs from the foreign countries. Apart from this, I was also to send the clicked photos to be printed in the news editing groups, channels and magazines. One of my other duties was to write about the news, which were published. Royal University of Bhutan has contacts with these media channels. I felt proud to be part a part of such a prestigious university. My activities as a photojournalist trainee My daily activities included assisting Sophie in the daily activities in and around Bhutan. I clicked photos of the community people and sent to the newspapers. I got the opportunity to learn a lot about photography from Sophie during the meetings, conferences and rallies. Sometimes, I took the initiative of exploring my talents myself. Sometimes, I felt the urge to write about different topics related to the community development. I sent these writings to the University. To my surprise, I was offered the post of editor. Details of the week During the first week, I explored Bhutan. In the morning, I learnt about the culture of Bhutan from Sophie. Along with this, she also taught me about the basic rules of journalism. It was through her, from whom I came to know about the basic ways of holding the camera. I devoted the afternoon for self-study. In the evening, I visited the tourist spots. Here, I made the most of the lessons, which I got from Sophie. After dinner, I enriched my knowledge regarding the course specifications. After the first week, the events took place in a fast pace. However, the program itinerary, which I took from Sophie assisted me to maintain the pace
5 PROGRESSIVE REPORT between the events. Once in a week, I took part in the cultural festivals and excursions. One day was reserved for presenting the papers. I eagerly waited for this day. Here, I presented the pictures, which I clicked. All of the jury members appreciated my sincere efforts. Chapter 3: The kind of files, which I worked on Photographic frame During my stay in Bhutan, I visited many of the communities along with the tourist spots. Political events were a common feature of the country. This was due to the presence of constitutional monarchy. Festivals were a regular part of the people residing within the communities. I was allotted the duty to cover these political rallies, meetings and festivals at different places. I made the most usage of my cameras for capturing the vibrant colors of Bhutan communities during the times of festivals (Hjorth et al., 2016). When there was no festival, I took random pictures of the life, which the community people spent. I created an account for preserving my works. Some of the photographs were: Figure1: Daily life of a mother
