This case study discusses the physiological basis of wound observations, possible sources of contamination and modes of transmission, rationale for choices of antibiotics and the process by which Mary's wound will heal. The wound was observed to be painful, swollen, red and warm with purulent discharge. The different stages of wound healing are haemostasis, inflammation, proliferation and maturation. The antibiotics used were ceftriaxone, cephalexin and dicloxacillin.
