Project
AI Summary
This project outlines the detailed planning and execution of adding a 3m x 4m room to an existing structure. The solution uses a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) to break down the project into manageable components: Plan Approval, Excavation and Foundation, Walls, Roofing, Internal Finishes, and Final Inspection and Handover. Each component includes a description of activities, inclusions, exclusions, assumptions, risks, risk mitigation actions, responsibilities, duration, and budget. A narrative description further details the deliverables for each component, providing a comprehensive overview of the project's progress. The project also mentions the need for a WBS and OBS interface, a critical path diagram, and a Gantt chart, indicating a focus on project management methodologies.

{Narrative describtion of deliverables}
Appoint a qualified draughtsmen and discuss requirements for proposed alteration. He
advised that because the addition of the new room will sit on two of my neighbours boundary
lines, we would require their approval for this renovation. Draughtsmen drew up first draft of
plans for my perusal. There were no changes to be made to first draft of plans, I obtained
necessary approval from neighbours and then submitted to local muncipailty for first
approval.
Component 2 Excavation and Foundation
Document Page
This required levelling of land, digging out trenches and soil poisoning. Once this was
complete concrete was then poured and given 2 days to dry, blocks were then layed to
prepare for slab. A layer of umgeni sand was added, waterproofing was done and then the
laying of slab.
Component 3 Walls
The bricks were then layed for the erection of the walls. 2 walls were erected as the
other 2 walls was made of the existing adjoining bedrooms. As the walls were
erected, spaces were left for the inclusion of the door and window.
Component 4 Roofing
Concrete roof tiles were used to match existing roof tiles. The roof trusses were supplied
according to plan drawings along with the roof tiles, waterproofing and fascia boards. The
wall plate was laid and roof trusses nailed on. This was followed by waterproofing and then
the laying of the roof tiles. Fascia boards, gutters and downpipes were then installed.
Plastering of walls
Component 5 Internal Finishes
The internal finishes were to match existing internal bedroom finishes to maintain
uniformity. The colour of the tiles where to antique beige with mahogany coloured
skirtings and grey grouting. The colour of the walls was Plascon’s beige sand with
the ceiling painted white. The room was to have 1 plug point installed in the middle of
a specific wall. In order to ensure sufficient lights, 4 warm white LED downlighters
were installed. A standard white door and an aluminium window a size of 1mx1m
was fitted. Mahogany wooden blinds were custom made for the window.
Component 6 Final Inspection and Handover
Once room was complete, I did final inspection to ensure everything was as
required. Everything was to our satisfaction but this was also due to the constant
daily communication of progress and requirements.
