Introduction
The vehicle Maintenance facility (VMF) project aims in development of a corporate
vehicle maintenance facility. The contract for the project is secured and a fixed price contract is
opted for project execution. The execution of the project involves a fixed scope arrangement
between the owner and the general contractor. The project is currently awaiting receipt of the
notice to proceed further with the project. The report outlines the goals and objectives of the
VMF project. The scope statement of the project is indicated in the report. The VMF project is
finalized to be a fixed scope arrangement between the owner and the general contractor. The
report further outlines the work breakdown structure (WBS) and the schedule of execution of the
undertaken Vehicle Maintenance Facility project.
1. Project Goals and Objectives
In the undertaken vehicle maintenance case study project, a project plan is essential to be
prepared. Development of the plan is subjected to identification of the objectives and goals of the
undertaken project. Accurate identification of the project goals and objectives ascertains
successful project execution (Kerzner, 2017). Project objectives are required to be identified
prior to development of the plan for project implementation as it contributes to correct choice of
tools and techniques required for project completion. Accurate identification of the goals and
objectives is needed for the vehicle maintenance project as it is a fixed price and fixed contract
project.
1.1. Project Goal
The goal of the vehicle maintenance project is to develop a facility for vehicle
maintenance. For that, a site plan is prepared. The actual site of project implementation is located

on the city street in the industrial park area. The fulfillment of the project goals require
undertaking a planned approach for designing and the construction work. Since the existing slope
of the site is minimal, large excavation is not needed. The objectives of the undertaken project
are discoursed in the sections below.
1.2. Project Objectives
The success of the project requires fulfillment of certain key objectives, which are
indicated as follows-
 To prepare a plan for design and construction of a facility for vehicle
maintenance.
 To develop a large parking lot in the site of vehicle maintenance to allow vehicle
parking and movement during the servicing process
 To construct two main areas in the building, which include construction of a high
bay space for servicing a vehicle along with an office and training area that is
directly linked with the servicing area
 To construct four service bays consisting of roll-up doors at both the ends
 To install the air conditioning and service equipment along with the gas fired
heating units.
 To install the heating and cooling systems including an exterior condenser
 To install standard power and lighting system, modern voice and data system
along with a wired fire alarm system.
The entire vehicle maintenance facility project involves the above discussed objectives. A
project plan is to be prepared that will be able to fulfill all the key activities for execution of the

VMF project. The scheduling of the VMF project is to be done in such a manner such that the
above indicated criteria and objectives are met. Development of a feasible project plan is
necessary to address to ensure that the project is executed and completed on time.
2. Project Scope Statement
The scope statement of the Undertaken VMF project is represented in the table below.
The table represents the basic project details, key deliverables and the success criteria of the
project. This particular project is a fixed scope project and therefore any changes in the scope is
less likely. Any major changes in the scope might delay the project or incur an extra cost, which
is not permitted in this fixed price contract project, leading to project failure.

Project Justification: The project involves construction of a Maintenance Facility for
corporate vehicles. The project budget is approved and the scheduling is completed. The
proposed project is expected to take 183 days for completion. The site for the project is already
prepared and therefore, execution of this project is justified.
Project Requirements: The key requirements for the undertaken project are indicated as
follows-
1. Less excavation is required as the slope of the project site is minimal
2. The construction of the undertaken project will be executed following a fixed price
contract.
3. Change in the scope of the VMF project is not permitted as the project is finalized to
follow a fixed scope arrangement between the owner and the general contractor
(Heagney, 2016).
4. Currently, the project requires development of a feasible project management plan
which will be considered for successful project execution
5. Since the project will follow a fixed price contract, it is necessary for the team to
ensure that the undertaken project does not go over budget (Too & Weaver, 2014).

The key deliverables of the undertaken Vehicle Maintenance Facility project are indicated as

Project Success Criteria: The success of the undertaken Vehicle Facility Maintenance project
depends on the following criteria-
1. Completion of the project within the scheduled time of 183 days
2. The project is to be accomplished within the set budget of $ 1,162,366
3. The scope of the project requires to remain constant throughout the project execution
phase
4. The delivered project matches up to desired project quality (Kerzner, 2017)
The project will be considered successful only if all the above mentioned success criteria are
fulfilled. The project plan to be prepared should consider the above mentioned success criteria
to ascertain successful project accomplishment.
The table above indicates the scope statement of the VMF Project. Since the project is a
fixed scope project, the above mentioned scope statement should remain unchanged till project
accomplishment.
