Leadership and Management Case Study 2022_1

PART 1
Introduction:
The current "management" and "leadership" debate is not new. There has been
a long history of research into what management is, what managers do, and
what managers require to succeed. The term "leadership" has piqued the
interest of many people at various times and in various ways.
Management and leadership are often used interchangeably, but they are not
the same thing and have very different meanings. There are some similarities,
but there are also significant differences between the two.
The proposed study is based on the leadership style of Vodafone. Leadership is
the exercise of directing, guiding, and influencing the behaviour of a group of
people within an organisation or community in order to achieve the specified
goals under the given conditions (Cashman, 2017). As a result, leadership has
always been influential in motivating employees and followers to achieve
business goals. As there are alleged changes in business and leadership
practises across the industry, say in the UK market, change is unavoidable in a
dynamic business environment. In such cases, leaders are known to look after
their employees by providing statutory benefits that increase their productivity.
VODAFONE PLC
Vodafone Group Plc (Vodafone) operates in the telecommunications industry.
The company offers voice, messaging, and data services through fixed and
mobile networks. It also offers cloud and hosting services, as well as solutions for
carriers, unified communications, payment, cyber-security, and the internet of
things (IoT). Cell phones, televisions, broadband devices, gigaboxes, and hosting
equipment are all available. Vodafone offers services in the automotive,
consumer electronics, manufacturing, banking and finance, healthcare, public
services, smart cities, retail, utilities, transportation, and logistics sectors. It
conducts business via subsidiaries, joint ventures, investment firms, and
affiliated ventures. The corporation has operations in Europe, the Americas,
Africa, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. The Vodafone headquarters are located
in Newbury, Berkshire, England..
LEADERSHIP: Theories in relation to the management activities in
Vodafone UK.
Trait of theories of leadership:

Lists of traits or qualities associated with leadership abound and continue to be
created. They use almost every adjective in the dictionary to describe some
positive or virtuous human characteristic, from ambition to zest for life.
In order to address organisational challenges, the Vodafone leadership style
takes the following steps:
The Vodafone CEO is proactive in waiting for the appropriate scope to implement
the appropriate strategy, or else the team will lose faith in him (Al-Ali, et al.,
2017).
The leader's approach to resolving Vodafone's organisational crisis must be
creative so that neither party is offended, resulting in a cohesive situation.
It would be counterproductive for the leader to turn a blind eye to the types of
conflict that exist within the organisation rather than acknowledge them and
work toward a solution.
The leaders must revisit the strategies and plans on a regular basis in order to
adapt to changes in the Vodafone leadership style (Bligh, et al., 2018).
It would be advantageous for leaders to surround themselves with like-minded,
rational people who could share responsibilities and even correct him on multiple
occasions while implementing business strategies.
Leaders should hold discussion sessions with individuals and groups to identify
the best plausible scenarios for appropriate resolutions (Northouse, 2018).
Leadership effectiveness in changing scenarios:

TRUST:
Trust appears to be the cornerstone between leaders and their followers, and the
aspect of trust is required for a specific team to deliver its best. The successful
team can place their trust in the leaders, whereas the struggling team cannot
(Ryan, 2013). Tesco, for example, has been able to establish an effective trust
level with its employees, which is undoubtedly a beneficial move in accepting the
plausible changes in the workplace scenario.
Kindness –
Employee trust can only be instilled if leaders foster the best interests of the
group in order to achieve the common goal. A compassionate leader is more
likely to succeed in the process if he shares his compassion for the staff's needs
and requirements (Anderson & Sun, 2017). Vodafone, for example, is highly
regarded for its diversity and inclusion strategy, which provides equal
opportunity to both female and LGBT employees. Vodafone's compassionate
leadership style can be seen in the fact that it was awarded the 'Top Employer
Award' in the category of working mothers in 2019.
Consistency –
