Polio Morbidity of Children in Nigeria_2
IntroductionPolio is considered as the most spreading and affecting diseases in the modern world. In thiscontext, it is required to mention that the morbidity of children in the world due to this disease. In the developed and developing countries in the world, this disease has already been declared asspecified and therefore, governments of these countries have taken reasonable measures (Diop etal. 2014). In African countries, it has been seen that polio results in death of around 900000children in last ten years (Cdc.gov. 2017). In this context, the researcher is required to mentionthat children aged below 5 years are affected at a higher level by this disease. In this study, theresearcher shall discuss the morbidity of children in Nigeria by polio. For this purpose, theresearcher shall discuss the reasons of such modernity in the lights of statistical data. Theresearch shall be made on the basis of the statistical data collected from different sources. Afterthis part of the study, the researcher shall focus on the methods of study. In this part, thestatistical tools like correlation and regression test. Hypothesis testing shall also to be consideredas an important way of analysis. The discussion shall be made on the results on the findings fromthe statistical tests. The strengths and the limitations of the study shall also be discussed in thispart of the study to make recommendations. Context Demography, disease prevalence, and epidemiologyIn this modern era of medical science, polio is required to be considered as one of the mostdangerous diseases that appears to be more dangerous in the modern circumstances due to theenhancement in morbidity due to this disease. In northern Nigeria, this disease takes the lives ofa good number of people including children. In this context, the researcher is required to mentionthat statistical data analysis is required to be applied for the purpose of analyzing the modernitydue to polio in Northern Nigeria. As stated by Famulare and Hu (2015), low level of coverage ofproper vaccination by the Nigerian government is to be blamed for the enhancement of effect ofpolio in this particular region of Africa. Improvement in the scientific and medical applicationsin the country is also required to be considered as another way of getting rid of the high influenceof polio in the children of northern part of Nigeria. As opined by Diop et al. (2014),immunization among the children of African countries could minimize the effect of polio in the3

children. Therefore, it can be said that the ministry of health in African countries are required tomake concentration on the recent statistics of morbidity in children by polio. DemographyAs per the data of government of Nigeria, enumeration has been adopted as a measure to preventthe effect of polio. Therefore, the researcher is required to make analysis on the enumerationstatistics in the Northern Nigeria. Furthermore, it is also required to concentrate on theidentification of the number of no polio vaccination in the country. Moreover, the vaccinationquantities in the local government areas are also to be analyzed for making the research on thegovernment’s effort to remove polio for the country. Figure 1: Statistics of immunization of polio disease(Source: Cdc.gov. 2017)In the above table, the researcher could mention that the enumeration in August 2012 was thehighest as compared with the enumeration rate in October 2012 to April 2013. Therefore, it canbe said that the government’s action regarding the vaccination in August is quite successful. Onthe other hand, if the discussion is to be made on the percentage of number of enumeratedchildren in the study, the researcher is required to mention that the session between October,2012 and November, 2012 has been successful for the country. In this period, 16.8% of the totalpopulation has been immunized by the local government. 4
