Dear Sir/Ma’am,
I submit herewith a report that focuses on the pollution issues in Australia. I
have made the research on Sydney and the associated pollution issues and
climate shift. I have made some of the recommendations to make the report
usable.
I hope the efforts I made will be promising enough and justifies the course
programme.

Pollution is the very common term heard related to the environment these days. Australia is
facing many issues regarding pollution in the environment due to some of the professional and
industrial activities in the country. The major effect is because of the electricity generation power
plans industry and the company that contributes more is AGL. It is the firm that generates
electricity and along with it polluting the county as hell. A great climate shit is observed because
of the industrial pollution in the country. Sydney is the place that is getting affected. This report
focuses on all such aspect of pollution at the place and the elements response the same.

Pollution can be defined as the presence of the elements in the environment that are harmful for
the people and the atmosphere. Pollution can be caused at the time when the atmosphere gets
contaminated with the harmful element that can affect the life on earth in negative way (Pereira,

pollution in the atmosphere are deforestation, carbon emission, industrial wastes etc. Australia is
one of the place hat is facing many issues due to industrial pollution. There are many industries
at the place that are releasing the carbon to that extent which is harming the environment of the
place (Friedlingstein, Andrew,Rogelj, Peters,Canadell, Knutti, Luderer, Raupach, Schaeffer,
Van Vuuren and Le Quéré, 2014). This is the report that focuses on one of such cause of
pollution that is carbon emission in the atmosphere that is affecting the environment of Sydney.
1.1 Background
Pollution is the debatable topic in the whole world. It is the most important issue that needs to be
focused on as it is affecting the atmosphere of the country and the whole world very badly. It has
been analysed that Australians facing these issue because of the industry set up in the country.
Some of the companies like AGL are the main cause of this pollution as this is the company that
generates electricity along with large carbon into the atmosphere.
1.2 Purpose and scope
The purpose of the study is to analyse the shift in the climate change of the place due to the
industrial pollution. The scope of this report is related to analysing the effect of the industrial
activities on the atmosphere of the country and the elements responsible for the same. It helps in
providing some of the recommendations to the companies who are responsible for creating
pollution.
2.0 Analysis of the situation in Sydney
2.1 Climate change in Sydney:
Sydney is facing the issues of climate change in the past few years. This is because of the carbon
emission rate at the place. It has been analysed that Australia has emitted around 549.3 mega
tonnes of carbon di oxide in 2015 and it raised by 0.8% in the next year. This is the
alarmingstage that the city needs to do something so as to save the environment (Chakraborty
and Green, 2014). It has also been identified that the place has experienced very warm
environment in the year 2016 which was the hottest year till date. This suggests that the
temperature is increasing and thus affecting the heath of the people there (Hinman, 2016).
Different emission have different impact on health such as carbon mono oxide results in

dizziness and weakness while oxides of nitrogen caused short breath and other respiratory issues
among the people.
2.2 Who is responsible?
Three of the largest energy companies are the reason if the increase in air pollution of the county
especially the west part of Sydney. One of the biggest polluter there is AGL. It is the company
that operates on power generating company located at Sydney (Broome, Fann, Cristina, Fulcher,
Duc and Morgan, 2015). The main reason of the air pollution in Sydney is the carbon emission
by this company and its power houses. It is the known fact that the coal fired power stations has
fatal impact on the heath of the people throughout Australia (Gallego-Álvarez, Segura and
Martínez-Ferrero, 2015). Most of the polluting power station in the city is owned by AGL.
Contribution of AGL in carbon emission:
AGL is the company that is considered as the biggest polluter in the county of Australia. This is
because it releases around 40,000,000 tonnes of carbon emission that is around 7.8% of the total
carbon emission. AGL toxic emission is 20 times higher than five years ago. It releases 97.5
million Kg toxic substances which lead to 10% increase in the total toxic emission. All these
facts suggest that the company is polluting the atmosphere of the place with adverse effects and
deteriorating the quality of the climate of the place.
(Pead, 2017).
2.3 Impact of AGL:
It has been analysed that this power company that is called AGL has great impact on the health
of the humans living in the vicinity area and all over the Australia (ABC News, 2017). As per the
researchconducted by Climate Council and Climate and Health Alliances, it has been identified
that the health effects by this company is related to respiratory issues, cardiovascular issues,
nervous system diseases etc.
The health issues that are faced by the people living in close proximity to the power generation
plants are not being identified yet (Courtice, 2013). This is because of less research in the
context. It has been identified from the data of Environmental Justice that there are more number

of Australian who are dying because of air pollution rather than car crashes. It is clearly observed
that the people or the company is not focusing on the concept of green manufacturing or
sustainability for the environment.
The figure clearly suggests that the toxic emission in increasing year after year.
3.0 Conclusion:
As per the discussion, it has been concluded that Australia is the place that is facing many issues
because of rise in pollutants in the air. The quality of the air is decreasing day by day. Sydney is
one of the areas that are badly affected by the practices of some of the manufacturing firms.
There are many factors that are responsible for generating pollution in the county by the
companies like AGL are one of the factors that is affecting the environment adversely with
negative impact. The company is generating toxins and carbon in large amount which is
affecting the atmosphere of Sydney and causing climate shift.
4.0 Recommended solutions:
It has been recommended for the company to take some of the initiatives so that it can move to
the path of sustainability:
1. Improvement in greenhouse gas plan: The Company already has the greenhouse gas plan
but it requires some of the improvements. The company has to change their technologies
that are used by the so that it results in less emission of the harmful gases. (Borghei-
Ghomi and Leung, 2013).

2. Recycle: It is required by the company to recycle the products used. It is very important
for the company to make changes in their recycling process so that one material can be
used again and again. It has been analysed that Blackmore is the company that is
continually making innovations and practicing the sustainable activities to protect the
environment. The company use glass as the packaging material and not nay of the
plastics so that it can be reused and recycled.
3. CSR activities: These are the activities that allow the companies to give back to the
society. CSR activities also helps the company to payback what they have taken from the
nature. Blackmore is again one of the best examples of the companies who are doing
great in this section. The company supports many charitable trust and environment
protection trusts such as cancer council, Exodus foundation etc.
