Overall observations
Observation techniques
 Running record: Amar loves to play with play dough, he can make
different shapes using the dough. Amar bends and pulls out the toy
tub. Amar shouted “wow” .
 Event sampling and the anecdotal records
 Amar and Jai are drawing. Amar torn Jai’s paper and started to draw
sun. Amar can identify the colors.

 As Jai arrived at the playschool, Amar
shouted “wow” and grabbed him and led him
to the playroom.
 Amar shows excitement while interacting
with Jai.

What have I learnt?
 Amar Singh suffers from speech difficulties and hence needs a speech
and a language therapy.
 Amar can understand the instructions given to him .
 Amar has displayed interest towards drawing.
 Motor skills of Amar are active and the socialization skill of Amar is
also active.
 Amar has developed creativity and problem solving skills

The purpose of the port folio
 The purpose of the portfolio is to learn about the developmental process
taking place in the Amar.
 The various activities would help to identify the different stages of
development as deduced by different early childhood theorists.
 Analyzing the needs of the children would help to develop inclusive
curriculum .
Organization of the Port folio
 The recordings have been done in playrooms for two days.
 All the findings and the observations has been arranged with time .
 The needs or the problems of the child was assessed by developing a
checklist
 A recommendation plan was made.

Theories related to early childhood
development
 Physical development- Piaget’s cognitive developmental stage theory
– Amar belongs to the preoperational stage and takes part in pretend
play(Bjorklund & Causey, 2017).
 Intellectual development-Vygotsky proposed the theory of intellectual
development.
 Emotional development- As per the socio-emotional theory of
Vygotsky, the social interaction plays an important part in the
development of cognition. Hence, Amar’s social interaction with his friends,
will ultimately help in the personality development in the adulthood.
 Social development- As per Erickson’s stage of psychosocial
development, initiative Vs guilt is the third stage of child development.
Hence Amar shows active participation in playing with his friends.
 More emphasis should be given on developing Amar’s sensory skills

Recommendations
 Effective partnership with the family , to understand the development
of the child.
 To understand the special needs of the children.
 Speech therapy should be given to Amar to promote linguistic skill in
the child (Paul, 2017).
 The curriculum should be modified and should be made to cater to
the needs of the child.
 Regular feedback should e provided
