INTRODUCTION
Recording of business transaction is one of the important step which includes multiple
steps and procedures. It is essential to record all financial transaction which is consist of all
monetary transaction. It helps in building and maintaining of financial statements of a company
which is require to analyse and determine financial position. A company uses varied formats for
recording financial transactions such as journal entries, ledger accounts, trial balance, profit and
loss account and balance sheet, comparative analysis etc (Adamyk, 2017). In this report it is
consist of trial balance, ratio calculation and an analysis of competitors position.

Trial balance is a statement in which all the general ledger accounts are recorded
including accounts relevant to business. It includes all the names of nominal accounts and value
of each nominal account. These nominal account either carries a debit balance or credit balance.
In this accounts shows figures of before adjustment which includes adjustment entries and
balances after the adjustment. The aim of maintaining a trial balance is to ensure that all the
entries made into company's general ledger accounts are managed properly (Chow and
Schoenbaum, 2020). It is the sum of calculation or mathematical statement which helps in
ensuring amount of debit and credit in each accounting entry is matched correctly.

f) Brief letter to Linda explaining what drawings are concerned with small business and
answering her query for the holiday
Accounting is used for analysing and recording all the business activities which is
required to be classified into various items. This helps in formation of various financial
statements in a company. If Linda withdraws dollar 1600 for travelling expenses it would
directly affect the profitability of the business. If Linda has planned this trip for achieving
official purpose or objective which would not affect the business profitability. This transaction
has been recorded as expenditure in the debit side of journal entry (Franceschi, 2017). In this
case, Linda is the owner of this business which results in deduction of this amount as drawings
from her capital.

Analysis of Linda's performance with respect to each of the ratios listed above for comparing
them with her competitor.
Financial ratios are used as an important tool for analysing the financial performance of a
company calculated at the end of financial period. Ratios are used for comparing data of two
entities which help in finding idol position and deviations in the performance of business. It
helps in determining relationship between various types of accounts. This helps in making
optimum decisions in a company for investment purposes (Palanisamy, Modi and Bellala, Oracle
International Corp., 2019). It plays an important role in finding balance in revenue and
expenditure as well as assets and liabilities of a company. Ratio analysis leads to management of
company's position within a market. It helps in finding optimum solutions for being competitive
in the market and taking right decisions.
Net profit margin ratio- It is calculated by the company to understand the worth of
business as it helps in determining the profitability of a business. According to the above ratios it
has been recorded that business is able to generate 10.26 per cent and its competitive industry
yields 31 percent. Thus, it results in deficiency in case of Linda's business profitability due to
lower competitive industry profitability ratio. For this it is suggested to increase her profitability
ratio to maintain business in competitive market.
Gross profit ratio- This ratio refers to the ability of a company in generation of profit
without deductions of taxes and including depreciation amount. When businesses generates high
profitability ratios it is considered as good financial performance of company and vice versa

(Tillman, 2017). In case of Linda, its business is able to generate 46.15 percent and other
competitive industry generates 54 percent of profitability. It represents as low profitability in
case of Linda for which is is recommended to use effective business policies.
Current ratio- In this ratio it represents relationship between current assets and current
liabilities of a company. The ideal ratio is 2:1 that reflects strong liquidity performance and
company is able to pay debts on time. In case of Linda it has 4.62:1 ratio with industry ratio as
2.67:1 which reflects Linda has too much liquidity to pay off her business debts.
Quick ratio- It is refer to short term liquidity position of a company which helps in
meeting obligations quickly. The ideal quick ratio is 1:1 which helps in meeting short term
obligations of a company. In this case, Linda has 4.51:1 with compare to 1.35:1 which leads to
effective liquidity position.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it can be concluded that a business performance can be ascertained
from the financial statements. It helps in determining company financial position which further
leads to better decision making and analysis of various investment opportunities.
