Assessing job fit
This task involves three parts.
Part 1
Find a job advertisement (job ad) in the visible job market and identify the selection criteria for the job role.
The job role must satisfy the following:
aligns with your career direction recommendation
is representative of a job role that you would like to work in when you graduate from your current
Program
you would likely be a competitive candidate for the job role (i.e. a realistic chance of winning the job role)
represents an appropriate next step in your career
requires a degree in your Program of study
includes 3 or more individual selection criteria beyond qualifications, licences and/or right to work
requirements
is targeted to an Australian audience (i.e. is advertised on an Australian platform)
is located in Australia (doesn’t have to be in the city/town you live)
offers a strong person-organisation fit.
Save and/or print a readable copy of the job ad (and Position/Job Description if the job ad mentions one) to
submit as a separate file (do not embed the job ad in your Portfolio) concurrently with your Portfolio. Ensure
you capture the entirety of the job ad from the very top to the very bottom. If the job ad includes links/buttons
that lead to further information such as how to apply (e.g. job ads in Career Hub), make sure you click to
expand and include that information in your image. Record all information you will need to reference the
source of the job ad using Harvard UniSA - do this when you source the job ad, not later, because it may be
withdrawn from the internet at any time!
Identify the selection criteria in the job ad by listing each one using the same wording as in the job ad but
separated into individual criterion as per the example in grey font below.
e.g. If job ad states “Brilliant team player with highly developed communication and organisational skills”,
separate individual criterion would be:

Appendix D:
Complete the table below to help you choose which two occupations to compare for your Career direction
recommendation using the following scale to rate your alignment for each variable:
0 – no alignment
1 – minimally aligned
2 – somewhat aligned
3 – moderately aligned
4 – highly aligned
Step 1:
For each Variable in the table, consider your occupational research together with your self-assessments to rate
your alignment. For example, for the variable of Knowledge, review the top 4 Knowledge areas of each
occupation (from your research in Appendices A, B and C) and relevant information from the description/tasks
summary. Compare this information with your self-assessment information in your Report to determine a
rating using the scale above.
Step 2:
Once you have completed the ratings of the first six variables for each occupation, add the numbers in each
column to arrive at your Sub-total.
Step 3:
What does the Sub-total reveal about your alignment to each occupation? Which are you most aligned with?
Which are you least aligned with?
Step 4:
Now, consider any other factors relevant to you (if any) that were not captured within the first six variables
and determine your alignment rating for these factors under Other factors.
Step 5:
For each column, add the Sub-total figure with the Other factors figure to arrive at your Total. The higher the
Total, the more aligned to that occupation the results indicate you are.
Step 6:
Use the results to help decide which two occupations to compare for your Career direction recommendation.
If your Other factors rating creates a change in the rankings of the occupations, consider what those other
factors are and discuss these factors in your Career direction recommendation. e.g. if Occupation 1 was the
least aligned occupation at Step 3 but, after considering Other factors, it is now the most aligned, within your
Career direction recommendation discuss the specific factors you considered that led to this shift.
