Poverty alleviation
Poverty across the world involves lack of income as well as the productive resources which
ensure a sustainable livelihood. It also includes resources for production to ensure a sustainable
living. In the present year, main challenges that currently arise in solving poverty across the
world1. In the year 2015, there are more than 736 million persons lived underneath poverty line
in international market. It has been found that approx. 10% of world population is alive in
dangerous deficiency and this has been found that they are struggling to achieve their basic
wants. In year 2018, approx. 8% of world’s employees as well as their relations be alive on less
than US$1.90 per person per day. It has been determined that most of the people who are living
below the line of poverty of two areas include Southern Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. There are
different challenges arise in solving poverty across the world.
Chronic unemployment
Global unemployment is one of the serious issues with the entire amount of unemployed persons
that are attaining approx. 1.1 billion only in highest 10 most crowded nations2. Unemployment is
one challenge that currently arises in solving poverty across the world. Unemployment in the

less income is not enough to meet the daily expenses. The people borrow an amount to
attain the needs and they remain in debt3.
Increased Criminal Activity: - The lack of income makes people get to indulge in
criminal activities and they try to earn money through illegal ways. This leads to the rise
in the poverty because people are not able to earn amount through legal ways4.
Food dependency and reliance on food imports
It is one of the reasons due to which the issue of poverty might improve across the world. It has
been found that many developing countries produce insufficient stable food which is considered
as the basic needs of people as it includes wheat, rice, corn and other products. For instance; if
Thailand, as world’s largest rice dealer will stop to export its products then it would lead to
influence on more than 136 million persons from Mauritania to Nigeria who are measured as
poor as per World bank 5. Thus, this shows that across the world different countries depend on
others even for basic food.
Similar to this, a country like the US who exports half of the corn will not supply their corn it
would affect more than 21 million persons in Central America and the Caribbean. For wheat,
nations in North Africa, as well as the Middle East, would be weakest to the import-related value
rises. Thus, this dependency on foods leads to a rise in the issue of poverty. In the recent
research, it has been found that closely one billion persons across the world are now starving

with the addition of 115 million people who deal with the hunger and this leads to combined
impact on improving prices of food as well as the global economic recession6. The rise in the
prices of the products leads to the fluctuations in the basic stable food prices and this wider the
gap between the rich and poor due to which countries are unable to alleviation poverty7.

unemployment. The suggested two major strategies include demand-side policies to bring

For fighting against the crises of the food, the solution that is suggested to countries like Nigeria
is to focus on their domestic agriculture. The government should form contact with the trading
partners for diversifying their supply of food. The improvement in the facilities like irrigation
and numerous yields per year for the farming of the various crops in similar ground that could
permit for better as well as more expanded harvests majorly in the area of tropical and
subtropical.
