2Executive SummaryThe research shows the growing number of people falling below the poverty line in the Philippines. In 2014, the poverty line fell to more than a quarter of the population in a country with a per capita income of 100, 500 pesos per year. This was an alarming 78% increase in poverty index since the previous year in 2013. In the year 2015, a rapid decrease in poverty levels according to data from the National Statistical Coordination Board. In the Philippines Development Plan (PDP) for year 2011-2016, the government wants to eradicate poverty in those 6 years where it expects an annual growth rate of 7-8% to go hand in hand with the achievement of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The recommendations for solving poverty and extreme poverty problem in the Philippines is having a robust economic growth and providing a good socio-economic environment for the people to get jobs and thrive. During the period where poverty has drastically reduced, it was attributed to a generally stable and low inflation, improved wages and high employment rates in the period. All though poverty is a hard nut to crack, reduction of poverty levels is the main reason why the government works to improve the standard of living for the majority of the people living with poverty.

4IntroductionPoverty remains a big social problem not only in Philippines but also in the world. The people below the poverty line in the Philippines makes a per capita income of almost 16,841 pesos in a year. More than 28% of the population in Philippines live below the poverty line. The government is doing a lot to eradicate poverty in the Philippines. Compared to other neighboring countries, the roughness of the decline in poverty levels is attributed to a large range of income levels across the region and unmanageable population growth (Alkire and Seth, 2015). In 2016, the population of Philippines was 103 million and that is quite high to eradicate the deep rooted poverty in the country. Poverty reduction has been slow and unequal but much slower than neighboring countries like Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Through the PDP, the government has planned a six year poverty eradication problem with an annual economic growth rate of 7-8% and the achievement of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Extreme poverty has been reduced from 33.1 % in 1990 to 16.6% by 2015. MethodologyThere are different methods that were used in the research. 1)Interviews
