ACTIVITY TITLE Aircraft Inspections (PRE FLIGHT CHECKS)
1. EXPLAIN WHAT THE PRE-FLIGHT AIR CRAFT CHECK CONDUCTED BY THE AIR
CREW MEMBER BEFORE PUTTING THE AIRCRAFT IN USE.
Considering the part of the Captain’s Aircraft Acceptance, the flight crew pre-flight
external check is a formally recorded action executed in the Aircraft technical Log which
is to be done before ay flight departs. It can be called a general visual inspection
considering the aspects of fitness of the plane which is to be verified wholly or partly in a
specific way. It provides an opportunity which helps in observing the environment where
the aircraft is parked allowing the observation of different aspects of aircraft hold
loading as well as routine aircraft servicing. It is a completely different requirement than
the requirement to be fulfilled by the aircraft maintenance technicians to be full filled
for Certificate of Releases to Service to be approved. The aircraft commanders decide
who would carry out the external inspection prior to the flight of a particular flight crew
duty. It is the designated pilot as commander of the aircraft for the coming flight on
deciding the person who must carry out the concerned duty. The preflight checking

helps in securing the lives of the passengers and makes the service much more secured
and authentic as well as ethical. The assurance of safety makes the flight much more
enjoyable and reliable.
The pilot is designated with aircraft commander for forthcoming flight determined for
carrying out the duties. It is common to aircraft commanders to take decisions for
carrying out external inspection that is prior to first flight. It does not bother which pilot
is assigned PF duties for departure and ensure that person delegated for carrying out
check on duty, under the instruction of designated aircraft commander.
An external check must be conducted after aircraft technical log is accessible at aircraft
and is properly examined by aircraft commander. In reality, in commercial airline
service, the available time prior to departure is tight, thus, the crewmember is necessary
to carry out external check that will probably commence immediate external check.
2. WHAT DO THEY CHECK FOR?
The pre-flight air craft check conducted by the air crew carries a number of processes
and motives which could be stated as follows
Tyre inflation is checked visually, especially on multi wheel axles.

The access points is advisable to check whether it is correctly secured following
the fluids uplift as well as toilet servicing.
The panels which has been disturbed while maintenance along with its
associated fastening should be paid attention (Laws, 2016).
After the long flights in the temperatures of above freezing points, a unique and
specified check is advisable, concerning the presence of ice on the underside of
wing surfaces even if the ambient ground temperature is observed to be above
freezing point.
The recordable items on the Aircraft technical Log of the flight such as the fitting
of covers, landing gear pins and flight control flocks, would have been recorded
but it is suggested that a check is made in case it went unrecorded in the
previous flight.
On the completion of the pre-flight external inspection, if the propeller restraints
are left fitted, a formal procedure is to be followed which would ensure that it is
removed before starting the engines.

The external check is expected to be carried out only after the Aircraft Technical
Log is available at the aircraft after a proper examination has been conducted by
the commander. On the commercial airlines service, the time before the
departure is short this makes the crew member to carry out the external check
would be commenced the external check as soon as the flight arrives prior to
boarding begins. This demand s and effective communication on the eventual
arrival on the flight deck concerning any petty problem from the Aircraft
Maintenance Log as well as considering the outlook of the aircraft (LU et al.,
2018).
Few of the flights also demands the internal checks which requires an effective
coordination which would help in maximizing the external check as well as
minimize any interference from the internal system checks. The first flight of the
day needs to follow this criteria or prior to any flight which is the first for that
flight crew concern the aircraft on a particular day. The provisions of ground
services, it becomes a necessity for delaying the completion of the external
check until holding the load, refueling, and other considerable on-stand
servicing activities have been finished.
