The problem identified in this article by Apor et al., (2018), is the stress and trauma patients go
through when they are diagnosed with cancer. The process of diagnosis and treatment is
exhausting for them, which makes them go through anxiety and confusion. This stress can lead
to post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and several health complications such as lifestyle
changes, potential side effects, impact on dignity, and death in the last stage. Memory of an
individual has a negative impact due to anxiety, which is proven by researchers. The treatment of
cancer is expensive and an economic burden, which is another reason for stress in patients when
they are not able to meet the ends.

The research purpose of this article is to evaluate the effect of chemotherapy teaching sessions
by oncology nurses for the patients who will go through cancer-directed therapies. Pre-
chemotherapy education is given by nurses through several aids that can benefit the patients in
understanding the negative outcome of chemotherapy.

The population this research article is focusing on is patients from multiple hospitals, community
hospitals, veteran affair hospitals and tertiary and academic referral centers. The sample
population is generalized because they are suffering from several types of cancer such as lung,

focus groups of expert oncologists. This group evaluates the education curriculum of specific
pre-chemotherapy education and the survey was reviewed by institutional review boards of
several reputed universities. The participants completed this survey, which was about their
opinions regarding various cancer treatments. After this procedure, they went through
educational sessions conducted by oncology nurses with the help of teaching aids that explained
the patients about the treatment procedures.

The outcome of this research expresses that education programs for chemotherapy awareness
requires concrete resources and study material for a structured and comprehensive educational
curriculum. The teaching sessions were successful for releasing stress and anxiety in cancer
patients and it increases the preparation for cancer therapy in the patients. This article adds
literature to the study of pre-chemotherapy education in cancer patients. The most significant
positive outcome of this study is that it makes way for more efficient and effective procedures to
deliver pre-chemotherapy teaching sessions that will improve the quality of service a nurse can
provide with quality patient centered care. The techniques used for educational purpose has
different issues and effects that needs to be considered while planning educational curriculum for
certain groups. It leaves a question mark on the use of video based teaching aids because it could
be economical in a restricted area. This study can open more areas of research in the field of
oncology and the effects of chemotherapy in patients.
