1THE PRESIDENT AND POLITICAL PARTIES
According to Sidney Milkis, the relationship between the presidency and the American
party system has always been difficult. In the light of this statement, a new synthesis of
American political development was reflected. The content of ‘the president and political parties’
directly scrutinized the relation between the two- party system. The particular concept can be
applied to the current president of United States of America, Donald Trump. This is because
USA is still struggling to fit under his leadership (Milkis 1993).
The 45th President of the United States of America gained control of his chair on 20
January 2017. The duration of his presidency of one year and three months was much difficult
than it was expected. None of the American citizens considered him efficient for the post of
President and when he got into the office; people were not ready to accept him. The
consequential actions of the President have changed the function of federal government. There
are hordes of instances, which showed that American politics became difficult in his tenure
(Jordan and James 2017).
Trump had signed The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 was one of the major taxes cut in
the last three decades. It was supported by the members of the White House that the same would
enhance financial growth and create job opportunities. However, the opponents criticized that the
benefits will be enjoyed by the richer sections of the society. They warned that it will worsen the
increasing economic inequality between the wealthy and the lesser developed section of the
society (Swers 2017).
Donald Trump examined the institution of presidency soon after he got into the office
unlike the previous presidents. The citizens of USA were disturbed with the functioning of their
new president and he was marked as self- destructive, ill- informed. He was looked as an ill-
