This essay explores the primary health care concepts of accessibility, community participation and inequity to explore what has been achieved and what still needs to be achieved in New Zealand. It discusses the Alma-Ata declaration and its relevance today, as well as New Zealand's health policy and strategy. The essay concludes that while the NZ government has taken much effort in relation to the three components of primary healthcare, much work is left to be done to increase accessibility, community participation, and eliminate inequity.
