2 OVERVIEW OF INTERNETWORKING Project scope: The primary small school requires a network which is to be used by the users of the school along with the guests who would be visiting the school. The number of users who would be using the network is around 50 where and along the number of guest is around 10. This network would be used by the 50 users on a daily basis whereas the 10 users would be using the network occasionally. The network would be consisting of a feature that is the FTP server which would only be accessed by the guest and they would also be restricted from using any other part of the network. So network would be created by having two parts and one part would be for the daily user whereas the other part of the network would be used by the guests only. Project requirement: In order to create a network there is a need of certain requirements which have been listed below: There is need of creating a network which would be consisting of a basic LAN that would be used by the daily 50 users. Besides this the network which would be creating of a separate LAN network which would be used by the guest for the purpose of accessing the network this would be totally different from the basic LAN. A FTP server would be FTP server that would be associated with restricting all the guest users and this FTP server would be helping in the process of getting access to the files by the guest users. Another server would be there for the 50 daily user and this server would be helping the regular users in getting access to various kind of services and this mainly includes the files, emails and many more services. There is a need of including various type of network components which mainly includes the switches as well as the routers. The switches and the routers would be configured in order to restrict the guest users and to provide support to the daily user.

6 OVERVIEW OF INTERNETWORKING DHCP Configuration Access Point, Server Configuration guidelines According to the problem guideline the network would be consisting of a subnet that would be providing support to the guest in order to get access to the files present in the FTP server and this would be only restricted to the FTP server only they would not get access to any other files. Certain assumptions needs to be done before creating the network and the assumptions are: All the users that is the guests as well as the user need to be present in the same building. But they might stay in different sections of the building that is in various rooms, departments or in chambers. Along with this the network would also be consisting of a high end internet speed which would be provided by the service provider that would be selected by the organization and for this reason there is an essential need of selecting the right internet provider. Besides this it is also to be assumed that the network is using the Dynamic IP addressing. Which mainly refers to the fact that there should be a proxy server or a DHCP or Dynamic Hybrid

7 OVERVIEW OF INTERNETWORKING Configuration Protocol which would be used by the network for the purpose of providing service to the users. Different servers need to be kept in different sections of the building. The problem statement also does not contains any type of things related to the usage of the wireless LAN so while developing the network there is no need of considering anything related to the usage of the wireless LAN so the only thing that is to be considered is the Wired LAN. Security Configuration Conclusion From the above report it can be concluded that with the primary school is network is designed by breaking the network into three different subnet. The IP address plan is created and for assigning IP address to the different vlan i.e. VLAN 10, vlan 20, vlan 30 for the server, normal user and the guest. The configuration if done in the netsim simulator for the identification of the problem that can arise during final deployment of the network design in the real life. The security and the performance of the network is also considered for the development and thus the guest network is denied to access the vlan 20 used for the normal users. The implementation of the dhcp configuration in the router helps in automatically assigning the IP address to the device connected with the switch. The core router is configured with the server and the distribution layer switch is configured as client for allocation of the
