INTRODUCTION
Health and Social Care (HSC) are the units that work to provide services to patients in
order to ensure their social well-being, personal care, protection, safety and security. The main
motive of such organisation is to lay emphasis upon the welfare and well-being of their visitors
and patients. These organisations do not work upon making and regulating profits and other
benefits for them, their main focus is upon safeguarding the service users. East and West Care
Home is situated in London and caters to care needs of vulnerable people. But the care home is
facing some serious troubles. The main aim of this report is to lay focus upon, how principles of
support are implemented in HSC practice; the impact of policy, legislation, regulation, codes of
practice and standards on organisation policy and practice; development and implementation of
HSC organisational policy.
TASK 1
1.1 How principles of support are implemented in health and social care practice.
The main basis of HSC practices is that it provides immense support to their patients and
visitors for protecting them and to ensure their safety and security at all the levels of the care
organisation. In past few years, the demand of the HSC units are increased and there are some
guidelines which are need to be followed by the members of such organisations in order to meet
the changing needs of the environmental factors. The main significance of such principles is that
lay focus upon the fact that provides guarantee about the effective HSC should be given to the
customers. On the other hand, it has been seen that East and West care unit is lacking on so
many factors that are essential for running a successful care unit. Their services are not up to the
mark and they are not as per the given guidelines.
These principles are based upon the values and expectations of the patient and society,
one of the major and key principle that must be applied to East and West care home to ensure
that service users are cared for equality and assortment, dignity of humans and worth, sympathy,
social justice, safety, privacy, honesty, convenience, and beneficence, and risk taking in a
responsible manner that must not affect patients. There are so many complaints are registered
against East and West Care Home regarding their services and quality. Moreover, there are
allegations of poor care and mistreatment of the elderly residents for example underfeeding of
the residents, left soiled in their beds and unexplained bruising. There have also been some cases
of stealing cash from the residents and a case worker was suspended over allegations that he had

mistreated the residents. There had been some cases where residents were given wrong doses of
medication and in one case, staff falsified medical records after realising a patient had been
overdosed and shredded the evidence. It is very essential for their staff members to understand
the needs and the desires of their patients and to conduct their duties and responsibilities as per
the given and measured guidelines (Bircher, 2014).
1.2 The Procedure for protecting clients, patients and colleagues from harm.
The following procedure must be followed by the East and West Care Home in order to
protect their clients, patients and colleagues from harm:
For the protection, it is very necessary to design and implement policies that follow the
proper guidelines and regulations that must be assessed by the service providers.
East and West Care Home must establish personalised care planning in order to ensure
that each and every member of the care unit is safe and free from any kind of the harm.
Assessment and management of the risks must be conducted in order to determine and
analyse the risks on time.
It is very necessary and essential for workers and the staff members of East and West
care home to analyse about all the probable factors of the risks and on the other hand, the
ways to handle them.
Enhancing Teamwork
Proper track and record keeping of each and every patient (Brett, 2014).
1.3 The benefit of a person-centred approach with users of health and social care services.
The person centred approach provides all the recent directions to the HSC practices in the
United Kingdom. This model was created by Carl Rogers and it was based upon the therapeutic
efforts, its main focus is upon defending the rights and well beings of the customers. The
centered approach of the individual is utilised on the frequent basis in HSC organisation. The
main mistake which has been made by the East and West Care Home is that they started
neglecting their patients.
There are allegations of poor care and mistreatment of the elderly residents for example
underfeeding of the residents, left soiled in their beds and unexplained bruising. There have also
been some cases of stealing cash from the residents and a case worker was suspended over
allegations that he had mistreated the residents. There had been some cases where residents were

patient had been overdosed and shredded the evidence. As per the given case, Inspectors said
that staff did not appear to understand the needs of the people in their care, adults with learning
disabilities, complex needs and challenging behaviour. People who had no background in care
services had been recruited, references were not always checked and staff were not trained or
supervised properly. Some staff members were too ready to use methods of restraint without
considering alternatives (Grajales 2014).
1.4 Ethical dilemmas and conflict that may arise when providing care.
There are various types of ethical issues that have to be faced by the health care service
providers. However, there are several numbers of conflicts and disputes that takes place while
providing services and offerings to the service users. The main and the keen responsibility of the
heath care service provider are to understand the problems and issues of the service users in
order to provide them right and the most suitable treatment. Moreover, the main issue that takes
place in East and West Care Home is that their workers and staff members started to ignore the
ethical responsibilities and the dilemmas of the society. These situations are turned out to be
very challenging and forced CQC to take some serious actions against East and West Care
Home. It is very important for the care unit to take some serious consideration in order to
improve their services and offerings. There are certain type of guidelines and norms are available
that are very important for care units to follow (Harriss, 2015).
TASK 2
Covered in Power Point Presentation.
TASK 3
4.1 Roles, responsibilities, accountability and duties of manager.
As a manager of HSC unit, my main responsibilities and duties are to work and to make
others work in the most desirable manner. I have to lay emphasis upon the work which has been
conducted by others so that I can monitor their working as per the given guidelines and the
requirements of the organisation. As a working member of health and care organisation, my role
and responsibilities are very important and essential and along with each and every working
member of the organisation, I serve to enhance the productivity of the unit. Development of such
organisation is in the hand of the staff members because they are the working unit who conduct
their duties and responsibilities in order to fulfil the desires and expectations of the service users.
It is also very essential for the staff members to protect the rights of their patients and provide

them healthy and safe environment in order to increase their efficiency towards their lives and
their productivity. There are various number of problems which have been marked in care unit
by CQC, which are need to be rectified by the organisational heads and all other staff members
in order to conduct the effective and efficient working of an organisation (Strehlenert, 2015). In
my past research, I have been seen that such organisations work in a highly sensitive market and
it is very essential and important to assess their working in order to provide desired services and
facilities to the patients and service users. For the care home, it is very important to maintain
certain kind of image in the market so that they can earn the trust and loyalty of their patients
and the people who want to join the unit in future. As a manager, it is my responsibility to
monitor and assist the work of various individuals and staff members in order to make the
effective and efficient decisions (Lewin, 2015).
4.2 Contribution to development and implementation of health and social care policy.
As a working person of health and care organisation, my duties and responsibilities are
very important and essential and along with each and every working member of the organisation,
I conduct my activities in order to enhance the productivity of the unit. It is very essential that all
the work conducted by the staff members helps in increasing the profitability of the firm and also
contributes in its growth and development. Development of such organisation are in the hand of
the staff members because they are the working unit who conduct their duties and
responsibilities in order to fulfil the desires and expectations of the service users. It is also very
essential for the staff members to protect the rights of their patients and provide them healthy
and safe environment in order to increase their efficiency towards their lives and their
productivity. There are various number of problems which have been marked in care unit by
CQC, which are need to be rectified by the organisational heads and all the others staff
members., in order to conduct the effective and efficient working of an organisation (Makai,
2014).
4.3 Making recommendations to develop own contributions for meeting good practice
requirements
As per my point of view and my findings, I can highly recommend that for providing
effective and efficient services at the care home, it is very essential for the service users to
follow certain rules and norms (Stoddart, 2017). The main basis of HSC practices is that it
provides immense support to their patients and visitors for protecting them and to ensure their

guidelines (Norheim, 2014).
The work conducted by the service providers must be as per the given guidelines.
Proper standard and norms should be followed by the staff members.
The superior level and standards of the work should be maintained.
The quality must be managed and assessed by the staff members.
They must balance the emotions and feelings of the service users.
Proper supervision and management must be provided.
The food and other facilities must be as per the desired and the expected standards.
CONCLUSION
From the above report, it can be concluded that this is very essential for the health and
social care home to work as per the given guidelines and norms plus regulations in order to
conduct the effective and efficient working of the care unit. The case of East and West Care
Home states that it is very essential that such organisations work in very sensitive environment
and it is very crucial for them to maintain their standards as per the given outlines.
