University lectures offering chances to students to register to vote

At the beginning of the lectures in universities, students are provided five minutes to register to
vote to make sure that the voice of students is being heard in the upcoming general election. This
particular move was taken by social media as brainwashing, but as per the regulator of
universities, institutions possess the responsibility to provide electoral registration of students.
Enabling students to register to vote online is regarded as a significant part of the education
system. The University College Union (UCU) have supported this initiative which replicates
lecturers and represents the university workers. It is highly appreciated that most of the lecturers
have contributed a few minutes of their lecturers to remind students how to get registered. UCU,
along with National Union of Students, is striving hard to help student voices being heard in the
upcoming general election.
However, it is to be informed that students can vote both at home and in the colleges. All the
parties will be closely watching the students vote. The UCU campaign has been working hard to
make sure that the universities must meet their responsibilities to encourage students to register
to vote. The students must be explained a little bit regarding the rules regarding the procedure
and benefits. As per the Higher Education and Research Act, 2017 colleges and universities are
allowed for electoral registration of students. In England, all the universities possess a legal
obligation to allow students to conduct electoral register securely and quickly. It has been
analyzed that Brexit will be regarded as the major factor when students will make their mindset

for electoral registration. Thus, as per 42% of individuals, Brexit will create an impact on their
vote and 59% will vote strategically over Brexit.

Teach us how to look after our mental health, say university students
After interviewing with Sally Weale, an Education correspondent, it has been acknowledged that
university students are looking forward to looking after stabilizing their mental health. Students
seek to get wellbeing modules similar to those modules planned for school students. It is seen
that 96% of students believe that they require a significant amount of emotional education to
improve their health by avoiding serious health problems like a high level of stress and distress.
This would drive the plans of the Department of Education to create modules in UK universities
from September 2020. The modules will help overcome high levels of thoughts of self-harm,
substance misuse, loneliness and anxiety among the students in UK campuses. Moreover, as per
the opinion of David Lee, an educationalist, universities are dealing with certain challenges to
overcome the demand scale for mental health support services. He says that according to
universities own data, students who deal with mental health issues have to wait up to 12 weeks
for support and counselling.
Furthermore, based on the view of Mary Seldon, a university student, academic work damaged
the personal life of students and left them to feel separated. Hence universities are required to
focus upon addressing the mental health crisis at its roots. However, most of the universities
offer wellbeing courses which are regarded as part of the curriculum. The higher education
sector possesses a significant responsibility to restructure its services to bring social and
emotional education to its heart. Meanwhile, William Crossan, a professor stated that offering
wellbeing education will be beneficial for the university students to help in tacking underlying
causes of depression, anxiety and stress. Thus, regulating and funding education system will help
in exacerbating and reproducing social inequality.
