Prison Population: Ethnic Backgrounds and Reasons for High Population

This presentation discusses the ethnic backgrounds of prisoners in the UK and the reasons behind the high population from some countries. It also highlights the impact of language and cultural barriers on participation in the UK workforce.

 As of now there are 14 prisons in United Kingdom which are run by
various third parties including HMP bronzefield HMP Doncaster
HMP dove gate HMP forestbank and others (Calkin, 2021).
 44 Percent of prisons in England and Wales are classified as crowded
which also include high number of prisoners with different
nationalities.

of Polish population reaching 696
thousand as of June 2021 (Boduszek and

securing employment and lose their ways to
criminal activities in order to survive in United

is the closest nation to United
Kingdom and until recently the
travelling of Irish citizens in

international citizens in United Kingdom presence is quite high with
specific ethnicities being more likely to do end up in United
Kingdom prison than others. Irish Polish and Romanian citizens are
more likely to face prison time in United Kingdom than other
populations because of lack of opportunities and presence of crimes
indicates Which are associated with specific ethnic backgrounds.
