condition of prison of UK and the way it has been increasing violence. Lastly, study will be
giving recommendation to criminal justice in order to improve poor regime of prison as well as
to protects rights of prisoner.
MAIN BODY
Presenting Prison condition
Prison condition is considering as a pace where criminals are kept till their punishment has
not been finalised as well as basic amenities like food and shelter is provided to them so that it
can survive. Along with this, there some procedure that need to be fulfilled by prison inspector
when someone arrives at prison it need to be interview and qualified professional so they know
what their rights are and get help with their physical and mental health. Moreover, prisoner is
told about courses it can do when in prison as well as rules are told to them so that it can
understand procedures (Kovera, 2019). In addition to this, security categories are given to
prisoner on the basis of how likely it will try to escape and the risk of causing harm to other
prisoners and prison staff. Furthermore, prisoner have basic human rights in case of any
infringement it can file suit in the court with help of legal advisor. They are also provided with
incentives and earned privileges schemes if it follows rule properly. A prisoner may be able to
get more visit from friends and family as well as allowed to spend money each week. The rights
of prisoners include protection from bullying, racial harassment and it can contact with solicitor.
The healthcare facilities including mental health condition are given to them as well as it has
right to spend 30 minutes and an hour in the open air each day. Moreover, prisoner that breaks
prison rules is normally punished such as kept in their cell for up to 21 days and be given up to
42 days in prison on top of their original sentence.
Moreover, it can be state that prison condition should not be an additional punishment
and sanction. It holds an individual accountability for their actions as well as to protects society
from any harmful threat (Enns and Ramirez, 2018). The prisoner is depriving from some of their
certain other rights like freedom of movement that are inevitable consequences of imprisonment
but in prison human rights are given to them. However, it has been found that in many prison
most of the prison staff make use of harsh treatment as legitimate way to deal with their

subordinates and in reality prison often do not meet even the most basic standards. In addition to
this, living condition in prison are one of the chief factors that determine dignity and self-esteem
of the person. If prisoner has been detained in good human condition it will have good mental
condition and are willing able to respond to rehabilitative programmes. On other hand prisoner
that have experienced punitive conditions and mistreatment have poor physical and mental health
as well as it returns to society psychologically shattered. Thus, humane prison conditions also
reduce the impact of violence in prisons. One of the major issue that has been faced by English
prison is overcrowded and that results in violence. Most of the prisoners are kept in same room
and it have to share livening area together and due to that most of them end up into fight
(Dirkzwager and et.al., 2018). Prison need to be more spacious so that everyone can stay
peacefully and aggressive prisoner need to be kept away so that it cannot create any nuisance. In
addition to this, another factor that has been creating issue like higher rate of death in custody
due to lack of healthcare provision and low rehabilitative opportunities. Thus, when the prisoner
is not given proper health condition like good mental health programme and no physical
activities it become more frustrated.
Although staying in prison makes person mentally weak due to the poor environment and
that lead in creating violence. It can be improved by giving them opportunity to enhance their
knowledge and conducting activities that improve their skills. This will allow prisoner to stay
free minded and activities will contribute in engaging with other peers. However, person violet
their human rights due to poor condition and chronic sentencing.
Furthermore, overcrowded prison are likely to have poor hygiene facilities that can lead in
increasing the chance of transmission of communicable diseases (Forrester and et.al., 2018).
Although pandemic has exposed that at global level there is need of reduction of overcrowding
so that prisoner can feel safe and stay health. Thus, it is the duty of government that it should
ensure standards of humane prison that are also aligned with regional and international treatment
of people detained. This will contribute in establishing effective and fair criminal justice
systems.
States government of UK made obligation towards people in prison as it deprives someone
of their liberty and assume duty of care. It need to make sure that prisoners are treated properly
and their basic need should be fulfilled such as food and water, sanitation, health care, fresh air
and light, exercise and adequate accommodation. Although there are certain rules and regulations
