2019). The organization chosen for this report is Burberry, a luxury British fashion house which

PART 1

behavior and performance.
Organizational culture
It is the underlying assumption, belief, values and the ways of interacting which
contribute to the unique psychological and social environment of company. The Handy’s culture
model provides four different types of culture which are discussed below-
Role- This type of culture consists of high degree of centralization and formalization like
large businesses or bureaucracies. There are rules and regulations and a defined hierarchy
that is enforced effectively.

Task- There is high degree of the centralization but a less degree of formalization. It is
flexible and works on the basis of projects. It requires the employees to be
communicative and collaborative so that they can work on their initiative.
Power- It lacks centralization but contains high degree of formalization. The leader in
this culture communicates clearly and expects quick responses. The main advantage of
this culture is that it is responsive and quick but it makes working difficult due to leader
which has strongopinion.
Person- It lacks the formalization and centers on the working environment that is status
driven and self- directed. It is suitable for firms of professional services such a
accountancy, legal, etc.(Xu and Lv, 2018).
Burberry follows role culture which has both formalization and centralization where the
employees know exactly what they are expected and work accordingly.
Influence of organizational culture- In today’s era of globalization and digital technology, it
has shaped the culture of workplace as people are dependent on the technology to make their
work and also the globalization has brought diversified workforce which helps in enhancing the
overall efficiency of the workplace.
Organizational power and its influence
Power mainly reflects an authority which has been allotted by organization to the specific
employee. It is used by leaders and managers to influence others so that they perform effectively.
It involves many authorities such as appraisals and rewards as per the performance. Different
types of powers are illustrated below which can used by Burberry-
Coercive-It is the power which is allotted to a person for management of daily operations
of workforce. Burberry assigns this power to its managers so that they enhance
effectiveness of each employee.
Reward- It is assigned to those people who provide promotions, rewards, appraisals, etc.
Burberry assigns this power to board of directors and they further reassign it to enhance
performance of employees.
