Introduction
Study skills or academic skills are those skills which are applied to the learning of an individual
or these are the aspects of behaviour learned by students. These skills plays a crucial role in the
success of an academics and useful for learning during the entire course of life. Personal
development plans are the well prepared structured report to create the action plan with the
objective of learning, enhancing skills, self-improvements, growth and development (Charitaki,
Soulis and Tyropoli, 2021). This plan involves setting goals and objectives, identifying one’s
strengths and weaknesses and reviewing the progress of improvement. The below mentioned
report covers the plan for academic writing and evaluation of effective referencing techniques.
Task One
Concept personal and professional development
Personal and professional development is defined as the process through which an
individual engage in learning with the objective of enhancing the skills, expertise and knowledge
in which improvements are requires through self- reflection, values, learning, performance,
learning and awareness.
Professional development is the act of enhancing the skills and knowledge of someone to
execute the job role in an efficient manner. It is the process of understanding the job role and
perform best through learning and training programmes, or watching an expert while performing
a job role.
Personal development is defined as ongoing process where an individual conduct the assessment
of their skills, capabilities and competencies and find out the areas of improvement; determine
their objective in life and set the milestones to work towards achieving those objectives while
maximising their potential (Noah and Aziz, 2020).
Briefly describe the value of short term goals with at least three personal examples
Goals is something a person or an enterprise want to achieve in near future and that can
happen quickly are called Short term goals. Short term goals act as an act of stepping stone
taking a person more closure towards the long term goals and vision. These are the goals that a
person wants to achieve in near future say in a day, week, month or a year. Generally these goals
are measurable, that provide clarity, focus and direction; and help the person making a progress
towards the long term goals in a short period of time. It clearly depict where we are currently and

where we want to be. Short term goals avoids procrastination and keep the employee motivated,
excited and confident to pursue bigger goals.
My personal short term goals are:
I want to be a good communicator and have a broad network of contacts that will help me
in my professional career.
I want to be able to face the audience and give presentation with confidence. Also, I want
to enhance my presentation skills that will help me communicating with large audience.
Development of interpersonal skills will help in building relationship at work place,
coordinating and communicating with team etc.
Briefly define the value of medium term goals identifying at least 3 personal examples
Goals that could be achieved within a short span of time and that takes an individual
much close to its ambition and vision are known as medium term goals. Medium term goals are
those which usually happen when a person have graduated form a college or university and is
ready for staring a career in life (Trang, 2020). Unlike short term gaols these goals take a bit
longer times for instance with a year or two. These goals are achieved only after the short term
goals and helps the individual check out the progress and evaluate whether the progress is made
towards short term goals or not.
My medium term goals are:
Obtain a professional degree programme or certificate.
Time management skill brings discipline and a sense of responsibility in the attitude or
lifestyle of a person. Developing ICT skills will enable to become tech-savvy and execute
the work more efficiently and effecetively.
Getting a job with a good career opportunities and personal development.
Description of the value for long term goals identifying at least three personal examples
Goals that an individual wants to achieve in upcoming years or time say within a year or
two,that have been continued for a long time or will more likely to continue in future also are
called long term goals. Long term goals are the ultimate destination where want to be in future
and are essential for self-improvement. These goals gives a person reason to strive for and keep
him focused towards attaining those goals. Long term goals helps in making day-to –day
decision with regards to the professional life and carve out the path for their lives and career
(Lamolla and González Ramos, 2020).
