1PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Introduction:
The aim of this paper is to discuss the importance of analysis the self for
understanding the actual position of a person in the competitive business framework. I aim to
get placed as a project manager in a reputed MNC where I have to be responsible to take care
of the departments of the workplace and responsible to provide facilities, changes of policies
and motivating the employees in the different departments. Hence the position and capacities
are discussed through personal SWOT, BCG model and leadership style of mine.
Industry life cycle:
For presenting the self to be product is related to its contribution in the industry.as I
have decided to become a project manager and get placed in a reputed MNC, I have to
analyse the position of mine in the industry. In this regard the life cycle of an industry has to
be discussed. There are five stages of the industry life cycle which include introduction,
growth, maturity, and decline and snack time (Harrigan 2017). As I aim to get recruited in an
automobile company that has its subsidiaries in any countries, I can see the industry to reach
the matured position. In such a situation, the standard of the industry is set and show no
problem in getting the customers motivated to buy cars. If I am placed as a project manager
in such type of business, I will be in the introduction position because I do not possess any
experience of working in any other company till now.
SWOT analysis:
In order to sell myself a product it is important that to analyse the strengths I possess
so also the weaknesses. This will help me in finding out the opportunities that I can utilise
and threats from which I will save myself. The following table will be sharing my capability
as a project manager.

Developing technological skills

High competition level
Constant changes in the job market
High expectation of the MNCs
Strength:
From the above analysis it can be detailed that I am capable to communicate my
opinions and suggestion both verbally and non-verbally which can help me in the process of
negotiating with the stakeholders. The stakeholders of the company not only include the
employees or the team members but also the customers, board members, investors,
communities and others related to the projects (Beamish and Lupton 2016). Now negotiation
process with the other companies while completing a project perfectly needs proper
communication system that I possess.
Secondly, I also possess the needed social skills that helps me to mix with the people
whether I know them or not (Legro 2016). I have all the confidence that I can manage to
communicate with people around me and share my opinion in a positive way to them. It is the
process of amalgamating with the people and understand their view point so that the decision
making process becomes easy for me.
Thirdly, as project manager, I can serve my company better because I have the critical
thinking ability. This skill features my compatibility with thinking the situation from the
different points of view. I have developed this capability in me by supporting the learning

process. I believe that the more I will learn from life situations and case studies I will be able
to understand the complex nature of any problems.
Fourthly, the feature of critical thinking process can give me the scope for the creative
decision making. I always believe that the projects have different ways to be done and no one
project has connection with the other. Like different keys are fit for different lock, every
project has its different process of unique solution. My task is to set proper goals for each of
the projects and then achieve those within time.
Finally the knowledge of the cultural diversity is essential for any types of business.
This due to the fact that the companies in now a days have become more operative in the
international markets. Hence the employees from local or different places having other
cultural background can effectively support the growth of the organizations.
Threat:
The risk management system is one of the most important factors that the project
managers need to possess (Davidson and Butcher 2019). However, in this case, I become too
nervous whenever I see any type of issues growing in the decision making process.
Secondly, the knowledge sharing is a skill that is lack in me because I do not possess
right understanding of the needs of the people. For a project manager, the sharing of
knowledge through communication method is a necessity but I cannot make others
understand which I know and convince them properly.
Thirdly, my understanding of the emotions of the others need to be developed as the
leaders need to understand the emotions of the team members and then make strategies in a
proper way.

Finally, the motivational factor has to be present in the corporation otherwise the
project will be failing due to ill coordination among the members. The less I capable to
inspire my people the less I will get support from them.
Opportunities:
Through the strengths I possess, I can easily utilise the benefits available as the
opportunities in the market. I have pointed out some of the changes taking place in the
industry for which I have to be ready and adapt easily. I can also take the opportunity of
continuous learning process do that I can keep myself updated with the situation every time
and work well than my competitors (Johnson 2016). Through this learning mentality I will be
able to include the skills both technological and other knowledge needed for the project
success. Finally, the team work process that is a necessity for the success of the projects will
be attained through the strengths I possess.
The competition level in the industry is high and the expectations of the human
resources department of the organizations that are operating the international market have
grown with time. This is the reason why in spite of being so very competent, I may face the
blow of harsh competition (Bell and Harrison 2018). In addition to the constant changes in
the industries, the expectations of the MNCs from the projects managers have developed in a
great deal. These can become threat for me which prevent me from the gaining full advantage
of the opportunities.
Resource capabilities:
I as a product possess some important values which has enhanced my resource
capabilities and made me ready for gaining competitive advantage in a market. I have the
capabilities like, honesty and integrity, hardworking mentality, self-motivation and in depth
knowledge of the subject. These have enhanced my value in a competitive market. Most of

the project managers mainly focus upon the calculative measure and grow their abilities in
that respect. In this respect the BCG model can be mentioned (see figure 1). In this matrix the
market share of the products and their growth are measured. In the stars the market growth
share rate is high and so also the relative market share. In the question mare position, the
market growth share rate is high but the relative market share is low. In the cash cow
promotion, the market growth share rate is low but the relative market share is high and in the
dogs’ position, the market growth share rate is low and so also the relative market share
(Johnson 2016). Despite the fact that I possess important all the important factors needed for
project manager to grow in a market, but the relative market share is low with the high
market growth share high. This reflects the fact that I am in the position of question mark.

Competitive strategies:
Competitiveness I believe is an inborn quality that guide the individuals to win the challenges
with their inherited qualities. However, in some cases, the situations can make people

competitive (Muli, Díaz and Montoro 2017). The following strategies can effectively help me
to become more competitive.
Getting ready for every types of challenges
Developing risk management capabilities
Developing more knowledge to overcome other competitors
Ensuring that I always follow up the changes in the market
Developing competitiveness through the training process
Developing skills to manage the culturally diverse employee team
International strategy:
As I aim to become a project manager in a reputed company, I will be trying to show
my capabilities that can make me unique in comparison to the international organizations.
Developing compatibility in the changing situation
Developing knowledge to the external factors like political, economic, social and
technological factors that can affect the projects in different ways
Increasing cost effectiveness in comparison to the other project management
organizations
Leadership style:
Leadership plays a very important role in the growth and operation of the companies.
This is due to the fact that the operation starting from the manufacturing of the products,
marketing, sales of the products and finally the response of the market about the products. As
the employees, customers, investors and other stakeholders are dependent upon the decisions
made by the leader, therefore, the leaders’ styles highly manipulate them. There are different
types of the leadership that are depends upon the efficacy and skills of the leaders and

capable to solve problems arising from different aspects. This include Laissez Faire
leadership, autocratic, democratic, transformational, transactional and charismatic leadership.
Among these the transactional leadership style is followed by me. This is clear to me
because I have all the features as a transactional leader. Like a transactional leader I believe
the expectations of the employees remains somehow related to the monetary value from the
companies. In addition to this, the employees also feel motivated if they are provided with the
facilities like leave, health care and vacation (Hefti and Levie 2015). The most important
factors I feel to be the promotions available for the professional growth of the employees.
When an individual employee is promoted in the organizations then he feels to contribute
more in the growth process. By seeing this example, the others also feel to achieve this
position effectively. Thus the growth of the organisation is made possible.
How to approach changes:
In order to approach changes some of the very important steps can be followed by me
which will include-
Scopes needing changes
Impact of change both positive and negative
Embracing the change cycle
Seeking feedback
For implementing any changes I need to first find out the factors which are affecting
me in a negative way and how these will be leading me to face the threats. Through this step I
will be able to transform my weaknesses into strengths. Secondly, before brining any changes
in the process, I shall be analysing the positive as well as negative factors relating to this
change. This is important because the change process can change the positive factors in me or
the decision making capacity into negative. This is the reason why the analysis of the factors

are essential so also their impact on the changed process. It will help me to understand
whether I should proceed with the change or not (Jensen, Moynihan and Salomonsen 2018).
Thirdly, the change cycle will be embraced in such a way so that I can take all the advantages
at their best. Finally, the change process will transformed the parts or the entire situation.
This difference will be seen by many others around me. Therefore, the change whether has a
positive or a negative impact will be understood if I take the feedback from them.
Conclusion:
Therefore, it can be conclude that leadership and management are different things but
in order to work positively and effectively in the competitive world of business, I need to
perform better by increasing my skills and competitiveness. Through utilising strengths and
transforming the weaknesses I will be able to develop myself in the international market.
