There are different advantages of having effective leadership within an organisation
which initiates action, motivation, creating confidence, building moral, improve co-ordination,
builds work environment and so on. These are identified as the main reason behind need of an
effective leader in an organisation. Leaders supports an organisation to retain employees for
long time by increasing motivation and coordination among workforce.
On the other hand, Patel, (2017) stated that there are different reasons why business
leadership is important for any kind of organisation. Leadership helps in ensuring that business
maintains its vision, inspiring moral, guiding an organization towards embracing diversity,
communicating new strategic directions, ensuring that employees are motivated, availing
necessary resources and support, encouraging continuous learning and inspiring a collective
identity. These all are considered as major reasons for an organisation to implement leadership
and achieve better outputs within given time duration.
As per the view point of Arruda, (2016), leaders and managers both plays crucial role in
growth and success of organisation. However, they are distinct from each other. Leaders create a
vision for organisation, whereas managers develops goals. Leaders are risk takers as they believe
in taking risk for accomplishment of goals whereas, managers tries to avoid risk. They work
mainly for minimising the risk. Apart from this, the main role of managers it to develop
appropriate systems and processes, while leaders emphasize more on developing relationships
with team members and providing them with support and guidance which helps them in

stimulation that converts employees into leaders and business leaders into moral agents. Along

performance level within an organisation (Orabi, 2016). This style of leadership is more

CHAPTER 3: RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research methodology refers as a specific techniques or procedures that is used by
researcher to identify, choose, process and examine information regarding a particular area of
investigation. In a dissertation, this section allows the reader to evaluate a study's overall
reliability and validity in critical way (Flick, 2015). This chapter of dissertation deals
fundamentally with the procedures and methods applied to collect and analysed the information
in this research with the view to confirm the hypothesis or research questions as stated. Under
this section of dissertation, different number methods will be included such as research design,
instruments for collecting data, sampling techniques, methods of data collection and data
analysis etc. These are useful part of research methodology as it will help researcher in gathering
of valid information regarding the leadership styles and its impact on employee's performance
and productivity. Some important and useful methods relevant to the study will be explained as

divided into three types such as experimental, exploratory and descriptive. These are main types
of research design but according to the current investigation, descriptive design will be applied
by researcher. As it will be beneficial and suitable design for the research topic and via this, the
conclusion can be derived in effective manner. This type of design is more effective for
researcher to analyse non-quantified issues. Along with this, exploratory and experimental are
another kind of research design which is not appropriate according to the current topic or
investigation (Gioia, Corley and Hamilton, 2013).
Types of study: Research methods can be generally classified into two categories such as
quantitative and qualitative. Quantitative research resolves, infers and describes issues using
numbers. On the other hand, qualitative research is based on emotions, words, sounds, feelings
and other unquantifiable and non-numerical elements (Walliman, 2017). Both types of study are
important but for conducting investigation over the impact of leadership on employee's

Sources of data collection: This is an another part of research methodology which is
more essential for researcher. There are basically two sources of data collection such as primary
and secondary. In order to collect primary data about the impact of leadership on employee's
productivity and performance, questionnaire will be applied. As it will support investigator in
gathering of reliable and valid information (Green, Camilli and Elmore, 2012). On the other
hand, for collecting secondary information about the study different sources will be used such as
magazines, books, articles, publication research and many other sources relevant to the study.
Therefore, primary and secondary sources of data collection are useful for researcher in
collecting of data regarding the leadership and its impact over performance and productivity of
an organisation.
Research approach: This is another section of methodology which is mainly based on
data collection and data analysis. For collecting data, there are basically two approaches which
are qualitative and quantitative. In order to collect information regarding the leadership style and
its effect on employee's productivity and profitability, quantitative research approach will be
applied. Main reason behind using this approach as it will help researcher in gathering of
numerical data and not require maximum sources of researcher as compare to qualitative
approach. On the other hand, for analysis data, there are mainly two approaches which are
inductive and deductive. In order to analysis information about the leadership styles, deductive
approach will be going to used (Kumar, 2019). As both quantitative and deductive approach of
research are useful for investigator in collection and analysation of appropriate information
regarding the current topic. Along with this, deductive approach is completely based on
quantitative approach of data collection. As it will be beneficial for investigator to collect
quantitative information by using questionnaire.
Research philosophy: This is essential and significant section of methodology for
investigator in arriving appropriate conclusion. There are broadly two research philosophy which
named positivism and interpretivisim. Positivism philosophy use quantitative method whereas
interpretivisim philosophy use qualitative method. According to the current investigation,
positivism philosophy will be used as it support researcher in gathering of information from the
respondents. As it support researcher to gather information through questionnaire and get valid
results. Main disadvantages of Interpretivisim research philosophy as it is mainly associated with

more essential for researcher.
As it support researcher to gather information through questionnaire and get valid
results. Main disadvantages of Interpretivisim research philosophy as it is mainly associated with
subjective nature. There are also different reasons for not using interpretivisim research
3
philosophy such as: low reliability, researcher imposition, sometimes not representatives,
sometimes not generalisable etc. Therefore, positivism type of philosophy within research is
valuable and useful for investigator as it assist them in gathering of quantitative data and not
require maximum amount of resources (Mackenzie and et. al., 2012).
Research Strategy: This is an essential part of research methodology as it gives the
overall direction of the study including process through which investigation is conducted. There
are number of research strategies such as experiments, grounded theory, archival research, case
studies, surveys, ethnography, action research etc. These are important strategies in research
because it help investigator in gathering of information about the topic (Tuohy and et. al., 2013).
In order to gather or collect data regarding the leadership styles and its impact on employee's
performance and productivity, market survey strategy will be going to applied. As this strategy is
more beneficial in collection of reliable and valid information from the large number of
respondents. There are various advantages of using market survey such as minimize risk
portfolio, understand employees, beat competition etc. Thus, market survey is more effective and
useful strategy for analysing opinion of Wick Hill employees about the leadership.
Research instruments, techniques or procedures: Techniques, procedures and
instruments are mainly related with the data collection (Mackey and Gass, 2015). There are
certain techniques of data collection including, focus group, observation, questionnaire,
interview and so on. These are main instruments of data collection but for gathering data
regarding the leadership styles, questionnaire will be used. As it is an useful and valuable
technique and instrument of data collection because this will support investigator in gathering of
valid information. There are number of reasons for using questionnaire within an investigation
such as greater validity, anonymity, useful preliminary tool, uniformity, easier method, repetitive
information, wide coverage, flexible etc. These are main advantages of questionnaire which will
be beneficial for investigator in gathering of valid as well as accurate information about the
leadership styles and its influence over productivity and performance of workers.

Sampling techniques: Sample within an investigation s introduce as a group of people,
items or objects that are taken by researcher from a larger population for measurements. There
are two techniques of sampling namely probability and non-probability. Under probability
sampling, subjects of the larger population get an equal change to be recruited as a representative
sample. In case of non-probability sampling, it does not relies on the subjective opinion of the
investigator. Within a research, convenience sampling as a type of non-probability sampling will
be going to applied by researcher. The main reasons foe using this convenience sampling
approach as it gives an urgent and simple approach in identifying potential participants to the
primary study (Miller and et. al., 2012). There are certain reasons for using convenience
sampling as an effective type of non-probability sampling such as availability of data, saves
precious time, useful for pilot studies, saves previous money etc. These are consider advantages
of convenience sampling which will help researcher in selection of sample from the larger

selected. Ideally, investigator working with quantitative data or information use statistics to test
hypothesis. Along with this, there are different types of random sampling such as simple random,
stratified random, cluster, multistage etc. These are not useful according to the current investigation
because for doing current study non-probability type of sampling will be going to applied.
Method of data analysis: This is an another significant section of research methodology
as it assist researcher in analysation of quantitative data regarding the leadership styles and its
impact over productivity and performance of employees within Wick Hill. Data analysis is based
on quantitative and qualitative analysis of information. Under qualitative data analysis, number of
techniques included which help in analysation of information about the specific area of study, it
includes content analysis, framework analysis, discourse analysis, grounded theory etc. These are
essential but current research is based on quantitative method and analysis quantitative data,
different techniques will be suggested such as cross-tabulation, MaxDiff analysis, trend analysis,
content analysis, Gap analysis etc. These are consider main techniques of quantitative data analysis.
According to the current investigation, content analysis will be going to applied because it focused
on counting and measuring information present in questionnaire (Quinlan and et. al., 2019). Under
this method of data analysis, number of themes will be created on each questions that support
researcher to analysis information or data about the leadership in minutely.
Research Ethics: This introduces as an application of professional codes of conduct and

ethics which must be follow by researcher as it help them in collection of primary data easily and
competition of each research activities in ethical manner. Along with this, research ethics in
primary research will be followed extensively to ensure that the study outputs are considered to
be relevant and robust. Main research ethics principles that will be used in current investigation
are confidentiality, anonymity and informed consent. Under informed consent, researcher must
provide accurate understanding about research aim and objectives to the participants and
enabling them to opt in or out of involving within the primary research. For anonymity,
information of participants are not considered and not related to any kind of primary research
results. At last, for confidentiality, outputs of research are only shared or communicated with

those people who have a stake within the results and are main part of investigation in a specific
capacity (Riedl, Davis and Hevner, 2014).
Research Limitation: The main limitation of research is the time period for completion
of research activity and the ability of investigator to include a larger sample size for the primary
study. For the time of research completion, investigator was restricted to the timing guidelines
for completion of investigation (Silverman, 2016). Along with this, there are also some
limitations within an investigation such as formulation of research aims and objectives,
execution of data collection method, lack of previous information in the research area, scope of
discussion etc. These are main limitations that will be going to faced by researcher while doing
current dissertation.
Research reliability and validity: This is a significant part of methodology as it help
researcher in identification of research reliability and validity. Research reliability is based on
execution of test instrument or technique which is questionnaire. This instrument will help
investigator in understanding of respondents opinion about the current topic. Questionnaire is
more useful instrument for researcher as it support them by providing reliable data regarding the
leadership styles and its effects on employee's productivity and performance (Scotland, 2012).
The questionnaire is also considered as a part of validity as it will also give valid data or
information about leadership and its impact on employee's productivity and performance.
Therefore, questionnaire is an important test instrument will support researcher in gathering of
reliable and valid information about the current study or topic.
