ABSTRACT
leadership is the art of motivating and encouraging a group of people to act toward
accomplishing of common goal. Leadership styles within an organisation plays an important in
influencing employees to work with full dedication and achieve business objectives. Number of
leadership styles will be used by Wick Hill in improving employee's performance and
productivity level. This is a main objective of this dissertation and for accomplishing this
objective different activities have been done by researcher. Introduction is a first activity of
dissertation which was completed by developing research aim/objectives/questions. Literature
review is a second activity of dissertation which have been done by using number of articles,
books, publication research, magazines and many other sources relevant to the current study.
Researcher methodology is third chapter of investigation as it supported researcher in collecting
of reliable information about the topic. For gathering information, quantitative method of
research have been used by researcher. Findings and analysing is another activity which were
completed by researcher by using content analysis. Under this method, researcher have been
created number of themes which helped in analysation of information easily. Discussion and
concussion is another chapter of dissertation which is completely based on primary and
secondary source of data collection. Under primary source, questionnaire have been used and in
case of secondary source, literature review have been followed. Therefore, both sources helped
investigator in analysing of data about the leadership and its impact on performance and
productivity of workers. Conclusion and recommendation chapter helped in identification of
results of study.

TITLE
“An investigation into the impact of leadership style on employee's performance and
productivity within an organisation”. A study on Wick Hill.
CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
Overview and Background of the study
Leadership introduces as a process through which business leader can direct, lead,
influence and guide the work of other people towards achievement of specific goals and
objectives in a given situation. This is a ability of a manager or leader to induce the workers to
work with more confidence and zeal (Al Mamun, 2017). According to Keith Davis, leadership
refers to the ability or capability of leader to persuade their subordinates to seek defined goals
enthusiastically. Effective leadership refers as an effective process by which a leader aimed at
enhancing her or his own duties in managing workers, their job ad development capabilities of
leadership in accordance to the goals and requirement of the company. Leadership style is the
approach and manner used by a business leader for providing proper direction, implementing
plans and encouraging people towards accomplishment of business objectives. As observed by
the workers, it includes the sum pattern of implicit and explicit actions which is performed by
their leader or manager.
There are different types of leadership styles such as democratic, autocratic, transactional,
bureaucratic, situational etc. These are main types of leadership styles that have direct impact
over productivity and performance level of employees. For this research project Wick Hill is a
given organisation. It was founded in 1976 and specialise in designing, developing and
producing prepackaged computer software. Company offers a portfolio that includes security,
access, performance, mobile device management, networking, high performance wireless, hosted
solutions, storage and cloud security (Azeez, 2017). In this organisation different number of
employees are working with aim to enhance their performance and productivity level. For
accomplishing this aim, company will used different types of leadership style. As it will help
employees to work with accurate direction and complete them to given deadline.
Problem statement
Performance of employees, which includes executing defined roles, team input, meeting
deadlines and accomplishing departmental goals and objectives. In different organisations such

as Wick Hill, they require some leadership styles such as corporate approaches, laissez-faire
approach, authoritative approaches to leadership. Therefore the problem of this research was to
establish different kind of leadership styles that will have direct impact over productivity and
performance of employees. Thus, leadership is a main part of the employee's performance and
productivity. Without effective leadership an organisation can not motivate, encourage, inspire
and persuade employees to work happily. As it will decrease performance and productivity of
employees as well as company also (Busaibe, 2017).
Research aim
Main aim of this research is“An investigation into the impact of leadership style on
employee's performance and productivity within an organisation”. A study on Wick Hill.
Research Objectives
To identify the need of leadership within an organization.
To identify the connections between leadership styles and employee productivity
To analyse the impact of leadership style on employee's performance in Wick Hill.
Recommend different approaches to leadership through which Wick Hill can enhance
productivity and performance of their employees.

Statement Of Hypothesis
H0: leadership styles have no impact on employee's performance and productivity within an
organisation.
H1: leadership styles have impact on employee's performance and productivity within an
organisation.
Rationale of the research
Main rationale behind doing this research is to analysis impact of leadership styles over
productivity and performance of employees. This research is executed because leadership is

main part of an enterprise through effective leadership business managers or leaders can
accomplish their organisational goals. Leadership is also essential for an organisation as it can
enhance their productivity also also impact on employees by improving its performance level.
This research is intended to analyse whether performance of employee is related to the leadership
style which is adopted by the management of an organisation (Dello Russo, 2017).
There are personal and professional reason for conducting research over a topic i.e. the
impact of leadership style on employee's performance and productivity within an organisation. In
personal way, this research help an individual by improving its literature review knowledge, data
collection skill, time management quality, data analysis skill and many other skills relevant to the
study. Along with this, with the assist of this investigation an individual can easily develop their
professional level. As it will help them to understand about the significance of leadership styles
on performance and productivity of employees or persons (Gyanchandani, 2017).
Significance of the study
This research is carried out because leadership is significant and important part of an
organisation. Effective leadership within an organisation is more beneficial as it help them in
motivating employees, creating performance, providing appropriate guidance, building morale
and also building work environment. These are main importance of leadership which will help an
enterprise in development of its growth and success in marketplace. This will also support Wick
Hill to improve productivity and performance level of their employees (Hermawati, 2017).
Route map of research
Route map is an important part of research as it help reader in identification of
appropriate information about the each chapter of study. Under this part of the study, different
chapters will be included which will be defined as below:
Chapter 1: Introduction: This is the introductory chapter or activity of dissertation. This
activity contain all basis and relevant data related to the topic. With the assist of this chapter
reader can easily know about the background of study, research aim, questions and objectives.
This chapter is also introduces as a part of research proposal which will be essential for reader to
identify effectiveness of research aim and objectives (Hijal-Moghrabi, 2017).
Chapter 2: Literature Review: This is second chapter of research which is mainly based
on previous studies. In this part of dissertation different number of articles, books, magazines,
publication research etc. sources will be used. As these sources support reader in identification of

authors opinion about the topic. In this part, different number of authors have to provided their
opinion and view regarding the significance of leadership for employees in improvement of its
productivity and performance level. Along with this, main purpose of literature review within a
research is to identifying gaps in previous study.
Chapter 3: Research Methodology: This is third chapter or activity of dissertation which
is completely based on research methods. This part of the dissertation includes different methods
such as primary and secondary method of data collection, qualitative or quantitative research,
research philosophy, research approach, research instruments etc. These are useful methods as it
will support researcher in gathering of appropriate and relevant information about the selected
topic (Ibrahim, 2017).
Chapter 4: Findings and analysis: This is a fourth activity of dissertation which is more
important for researcher. As it help them in interpretation of information or data about the topic.
Under this section of research, frequency table will be made which help investigator in
identification of agreed and unagreed respondents regarding the current study. Along with this,
in this chapter, different number of tables and graphs will be made which is completed based on
frequency table.
Chapter 5: Discussion: This is a fifth chapter of dissertation which assist investigator in
proper identification of primary and secondary information. Literature review will be used for
discussing secondary information about the topic. On the other hand, questionnaire help
researcher in providing primary data or information regarding the impact of leadership on
performance and productivity of employees (Indrasari, 2017).
Chapter 6: Conclusion and Recommendation: This refers to a last chapter or task of
dissertation which support reader in determination of information about the research objectives
are achieved or not. This chapter is mainly based on research findings and analysis. Along with
this, recommendations will be provided to the company which is completely based research
topic.

CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW
Literature review refers as an effective and systematic process which is applied by
researcher to gather in-depth data about the current topic. Main purpose of this section is to find
out gaps as well as conflict in previous study. By identification of these gaps, researcher become
more able to fill those gaps by conducting further study over the topic. In this part of dissertation,
each objectives and questions are address in systematic manner. This is the most important area
of investigation which assist the over all work in right manner by examining the existing
information available on the topic (Khokhar, 2017). Therefore, available information helps
researcher in gaining knowledge about the subject area which further assists in carrying out
research in appropriate way and drawing valid conclusion based on the study. This part is
recognised as a base of investigation as in this, an effective theoretical framework is created that
helps to carry on work in significant manner and reach the key outcome. In this particular
section, data is collected through using secondary sources including books, journals,
newspapers, published research articles and past investigation reports. This section is viably
based on the aim and objectives of the investigation, thus, an appropriate theoretical frame work
is develop by analysing the views and opinion of different authors and writers. The present
investigation is based on the topic “To identify the impact of leadership on employee’s
productivity within an organisation” thus, the study area is wide. In order to gather information
over the topic, the opinions of different authors and writers are taken into consideration to get
adequate information that assist in carrying out further research activities appropriately and
helps researcher to draw valid conclusion on study.
The need of leadership within an organization
According to Bouckenooghe, Zafar and Raja, (2015), leadership within an organisation
introduces as the capacity of management of business to set and accomplish challenging goals. It
is associated with setting and accomplishing goals, solving issues, and tackling the competition
decisively and quickly. Effective leadership is require by each organisation for the purpose to
achieve better results within given time period. In simple words, leadership is the process of
influencing employees and encouraging them to work willingly towards achievement of
organisational goals and objectives with more confidence. It will support an organisation to
influence workers to work with full dedication and gain better results easily.
