A nurse supervisor from the surgical ward was chosen for the leadership interview.
Role as a healthcare team member
The nurse supervisor was asked about her roles as a healthcare team member. She
explained that as a nurse supervisor, her roles involve overseeing and guiding other healthcare
staff in carrying out different activities involving patient care. A nurse supervisor always directs
health staff and helps them in every difficult situation. A nurse supervisor requires adequate skill,
expertise, and knowledge to be able to solve a situation. She ensured that all daily activities,
tasks, and management plansare in its place, and there is no compromise in patient care. The
nurse also said that she always provides support to other health workers whenever there is a need
and also often conducts educational programs to increase staff awareness.
Professionalism
According to the nurse supervisor, professionalism means practicing by adhering to both
professional and also personal standards of care. Professionalism is the ability to practice with
integrity, competency, empathy, and consideration. According to the nurse supervisor,
professionalism reveals the way the nurse perceives their work, and it is also a guide to practice
for the nurses to ensure the safety of the patients and ensure the quality of care. Professionalism
represents a comprehensive, altruistic ad holistic care of patients. Professionalism ensures that a
nurse working in the clinical setting must possess the key competencies and skills required, and
they must practice adhering to the nursing guidelines and principles. The nurse supervisor said
that she has always exhibited confidence and have maintained professionalism throughout her
practice in clinical settings. She believes that effective leadership contributes to strengthening
