INTRODUCTION
Professional management can be defined as the process of managing a profession in
systematic manner so that all the future goals and objectives could be met. It is a type of
seasoned approach which is used for the purpose of administrating the whole entity so that the
predetermined objectives could be met. All the individuals who are focused with tehri
qualification technical skills and capabilities should make sure that they are having proper
information of professional management. Leadership is the process of leading a group so that it
could be analysed that the individuals or the subordinates will be able to meet all their future
goals and objectives. It is very important for all the leaders to make sure that they are guiding the
subordinates properly because it can help them to be aware of all their job roles and
responsibilities. While planning to meet all the career and academic goals it is very important for
all the students to make sure that they are focused with proper leadership and professional
management (Adams, Kutty and Zabidi, 2017). Both of them can help the individuals to make
sure that they are having ability to meet all the predetermined objectives. If the analyse that they
are not capable of meeting the goals then it is very important for them to pay attention towards
development of them so that the desired job in future could be acquired. Present report is based
upon analysis of professional management and leadership of the business simulation game. The
idea of phone venture was formulated to establish the enterprise. The organisation’s name was
AXIOM which is a new phone venture. It produces all the phones in Asia under the license and
the demand is met by the organisation on the basis of requirements of clients. The whole
assignment is segregated in two parts first task is focused with providing reflection on the
leadership and management of the strategic ambition. Second task is focused with evaluation of
the contribution to the management simulation game.
TASK 1
Reflection on the leadership and management of strategic ambitions
Leadership and management are two different skills of an individual which are required
to be focused for the purpose of meeting all the future goals such as getting a job, scoring good
scores in examination etc. If the individuals are not able to pay attention towards all these skills
then it may leave negative impact upon their future objectives. I am a person who is highly
ambitious and focused with development of career. I have good leadership and management

skills which help me to meet all the strategic ambitions. While studying in the university of
Sunderland all the students in class were tasked to play the simulation game which was focused
with development of a business concept. With the help of this opportunity all the students could
make improvement in their academic as well as entrepreneurial skills. Business simulation helps
the individuals to experience the real situations which could be faced while establishing own
business. If the students will not be able to deal with such situations properly then it will be very
difficult to meet all the future goals and objectives (Armstrong, 2016). When I was developing
the idea of the new venture, I was trying to manage all the activities systematically so that I can
play the game in systematic manner. The task of playing it was assigned in groups so that all the
individuals who will be working in it may get opportunity to experience the situations which
may take place while running own business. In order to meet all the long-term career goals, it
will be very important for all the students to make sure that they are focused with development
of their professional skills.
I have good qualities of management so I decided to make a road map for all the
activities which will be performed for the accomplishment of the tasks which are related to the
simulation game. Because of my effective leadership capabilities, I was working as the team
leader. I was responsible for guiding all the group members so that they can meet all the
expectations of their job role (Willis, Clarke and O'Connor, 2017). The main responsibility of
mine was to make sure that all of them are performing the tasks properly that are assigned to
them. All the team members were responsible for making sure that they gather detailed
information of all the key elements so that I can cross check the details and make appropriate
changes if required. My leadership and management skills were used by me to make sure that I
can handle the whole project properly.
I tried to manage the activities that are performed by all the group members for
attainment of all the goals that were formulated by us. Apart from this, I used my leadership
skills to supervise all the group members so that they could be facilitated to perform all their
duties properly. I was also responsible for formulation of effective strategies which could be
used for the development of effective ideas for attainment of desired goals and objectives. When
I was working as the leader of our group, I tried to make sure that I accomplish all the tasks
successfully so that I can motivate my team members (Bellibaş and Gümüş, 2019). Apart from
this, I also paid attention towards the formulation of such decisions that can help to find better

ways to complete the tasks related to business simulation game. The whole game was based upon
the idea of the venture which was developed by me earlier. During the completion of the project
and to reach my strategic ambition I tried to make sure that I guide all the team members
properly as they engagement in work can help to meet all the objectives properly. If the level of
their engagement will be low then it will eb very difficult to reach the desired outcomes.
The business simulation game was all about formulating an idea of a new phone venture
and the idea which was developed by me was AXIOM it is a new phone venture that
manufactures smart phones in Asia and operating business in various countries. I also designed
an innovative slogan for the business venture which is Quality, Precision, Technology. During
the completion of the project on simulation I was mainly responsible for guiding the whole team
so that they can work effectively (Bush and Glover, 2016). For this purpose, I was required to
use effective style of leadership. There are different theories which were focused by me so that I
can choose the best style of supervision so that my team members can contribute in the
attainment of the common goals. Some of the leadership styles which were analysed by me were
democratic, autocratic and laisse faire. All of them are focused with different types of tasks and
can contribute in the achievement of the predetermined objective. As I was working on a college
assignment so it was very difficult for me to use autocratic or laisse faire mode of supervision as
I was also responsible to work. During the project I used democratic leadership which helped me
to accomplish all the tasks of the simulation game successfully. Under this type of supervision,
the leader allows the subordinates and other team members to take part in the decisions making
process so that all of them could be motivated to work hard. Apart from this, engagement of all
the team mates in the effective decision making can help to meet the goals as soon as possible.
While working on the project I was guiding all the team members and asked them to provide me
some suggestions so that I can find effective ways to meet the future expectation of tutor from
our group.
Democratic leadership of mine was one of the key factors which helps me to achieve my
strategic ambition of running a business in systematic manner with the help of the simulation
game. It is very important for all the leaders to make sure that they are able to apply effective
models or approaches of management and leadership so that they can enhance the engagement of
all the individuals in the work. Under my supervision all the member took part in the analysis
procedures that are focused for the purpose of completing the project in systematic manner. All

the group members were satisfied with their job and it encouraged their motivation and
dedication for the completion of the project in systematic manner. As the whole project was
focused with enhancement of entrepreneurial skills so I was acting as the strategy advisor so that
effective decision for the upcoming period could be formulated. Another advantage of
democratic leadership style was higher involvement of all the individuals in the process of
finding solutions for all the issues that are faced by us during the completion of the project. One
of the challenges which were faced by us while working on the project of simulation game was
lack of experience of running a business (Bush, Bell and Middlewood, 2019). It was dealt by all
of us collaboratively so that we can complete the whole project in systematic manner. We
gathered information from different online sources which helped us to make sure that we collect
required data which can help us to run a business and deal with all the business issues in
systematic manner.
The democratic leadership style helped me to bring more viewpoints to the table where
me and all the group members were planning to find easy and effective ways to complete the
project and run the simulation game in systematic manner. It helped me to be more efficient in
problem solving because I was having support of my team members who helped me to reach the
desired goal by helping me to deal with all the problems that were faced during the project. As I
was working as a democratic leader therefore it resulted in good relationship with all the team
members and higher level of commitment of all of them. When all of us designed the concept of
business then I invited each and every team member so that I can ask them about their opinion
regarding the changes in the plan so that we can work further. The effective leadership of mine
helped me to increase the morale and motivation level of all the team members which facilitated
the successful completion of the project on business simulation game (Castillo and Hallinger,
2018).
Apart from leadership management is also very important for a project on which different
individuals are working. It is very important for all the leaders to make sure that they are able to
manage the work in systematic manner as it can help them to make arrangements for future
consequences (Thorpe, 2016). When I was working on the phone venture AXIOM’s project, I
made sure that I am able to manage all the activities of the project. I was having effective
management skills which helped me to make sure that I facilitate all the team mates to work
properly. There are various types of management theories which could be used by a leader while

planning to manage the tasks of a project. One of the main theories is administrative
management theories. With the help of it, a manager can make sure that all the activities which
are related to the specific project could be completed in systematic manner.
There are five main principles of it which are planning, directing, controlling, coordinating
and organising. As I was leading the project of business simulation game of new phone venture
AXIOM so I used this theory for effective management of all the tasks. When the idea of
business was formulated then I formed different types of plan under the planning principle of
theory. It helped me to make sure that I design effective plans so that the requirements of project
could be met (Diamond and Spillane, 2016). Different plans which were formed by me were
conducting evaluation of all the team members, making arrangements of all the required
resources etc. All these plans were executed properly so that we can complete the project of
simulation game effectively. Apart from this, as a leader I was also responsible for organising all
the activities properly and ask the team members to work under my supervision so that I can
assure successful completion of all the tasks. I organised all the tasks in systematic manner
which helped all the group members to work on the project properly. Another principle of
administrative management theory is directing which states that a leader should provide proper
supervision to all the individuals working in the team as it can help them to make sure that they
work effectively. I directed all my group members as it was the main requirement of the project.
I was responsible for directing them so that they can perform all the tasks that are assigned to
them.
Controlling is another principle of administrative management theory in which a leader
like me is responsible to control action of all the team members so that possibility of negative
impacts of them upon the project could be ignored. When I was working on the project, I made
sure that I take control over action of all the group members so that I can assure successful
completion of the project. I directed all the team members to perform all their tasks properly and
I monitored each and ever step which was taken by them. It helped me to assure that all their
actions are controlled and will not leave any type of negative impact upon the progress of the
project. As the team members were responsible to collect market data so that we can determine
the demand of clients for future so I analysed the collected information in order to analyse that it
is accurate or not. Additionally, some of the team members were liable to maintain the
profitability and liquidity by formulating all the final accounts of business properly. When they

completed the formulation, I monitored the work so that I can assure that the financial statements
are formed according to accounting principles and standards. It facilitated me to take control
over whole project and make sure that it is completed properly (Fraser, Castrucci and Harper,
2017).
Last principle of the theory is collaboration which is one of the key aspects that are
required to be focused by a team leader is he or she is willing to manage the project properly.
When I was leading the project of phone venture under business game simulation, I tried to
collaborate all the team members so that they can help to find innovative ideas for completion.
Because of my effective management and leadership skills I was able to meet the strategic
ambitions such as running to phone venture properly, dealing with business challenges in
systematic manner etc. If I was having lack of leadership and management qualities then it would
have been very difficult for me to respond to all the challenges that were faced while working on
the project (Renz, 2016).
It is very important for all the organisations to make sure that it is carrying out
operational activities in ethical manner. As I was the main person in the AXIOM which is a
phone venture so it was my main responsibility to make sure that the operations of the business
are carried out in ethical manner. If the businesses will not be able to meet all the goals by
following ethics then it may leave negative impact upon the market image. If the entities are
willing to attract large number of customers and generated higher profits then it is very important
to make sure that all the operational activities are performed under ethical considerations. As a
leader in AXIOM project I was responsible to make sure that I treat all the staff members equally
or give importance to all the team members equally (Gopee and Galloway, 2017). I was not
biased during the project which helped me to motivate all the individuals which resulted in high
level of engagement of them in their work. All the members in the group worked properly as it
was paying attention towards giving equal importance to all of the individuals.
In my opinion value-based relationships are also very important for all the leaders as it
can support them to meet the long-term goals of an organisation. It could be defined as the
relation of a firm’s market offerings to those of its competitors. If the organisation will operate
all the operations in ethical manner and will have focus upon value-based relationship then it
may leave impact upon the staff members. As I was the strategic advisor in AXIOM so it was
very important for me to make sure that I am giving effective advice to the enterprise so that it

can meet all its objectives. Value-based relationship is very important to enhance staff
engagement because when there will be good relations of the enterprise with its clients and
employees it will help to generate higher revenues. Apart from this, it can also help to enhance
the level of engagement of employees because they will work hard to get good compensation.
When the entity will generate huge profits then incentives and bonuses are offered to the
workforce so if the value-based relationships will be focused by the organisation then it will
result in higher work quality of all the employees. If an entity is not able to pay attention towards
it then it may affect the market image as well as the profitability. Lack of it, will result in lower
staff engagement and profitability. Due to this, the future operations may also get impacts
because it may create the situation of lack of funding for operational activities (Hammad and
Hallinger, 2017).
When I was studying in the university different projects and exercises were completed by
me. One of them was role play exercise of Sunderland Soft Toys. It was one of the main
exercises which helps me to develop my communication, leadership and management skills.
With the help of it, I was able to experience the situation of running a business which facilitated
me to formulate effective decisions for this project. The role play was headed by the tutor and all
the students were responsible to play a role assigned by the tutor. This exercise helped me to
understand that why it is very important to deal with all the issues that are affecting the business
quickly. It also facilitated me to enhance the information about important role of organisation’s
ethical and value-based relation impacts upon staff (Oshagbemi, 2017).
While completing the project I applied different types of models of leadership and
management. These were democratic leadership and administrative management theory. With
the help of both of them, I tried to manage and lead all the team members properly which
resulted in successful completion of whole project on phone venture. The theoretical perspective
of leadership and management theories influenced the development of my leadership and
management skills (Hassi, 2019). According to theories, the leader is responsible for formulation
of effective plans, direct all the individuals, organise all the activities, collaborate with team
members etc. Additionally, the managers and leaders are also liable for make sure that all the
staff members are working properly or not. With the help of all the models which were applied
by me I was able to enhance my skills which facilitated me to lead the team properly.
Additionally, I also made sure that I make efforts to lead the team in systematic manner because

it is one of the main elements which is required for successful completion of a project. If the
leader will not be able to motivate the team and guide all the team members then it will be very
difficult to attain the goals and objectives of the group. My effective management and leadership
qualities were the main aspects which helped me to complete the simulation game project
successfully and meet the predetermined goals and objectives.
The models that were applied by me during the completion of the project helped me to
develop my capabilities lead and manage the team because with the help of I was aware of all the
actions that should be taken by me to complete the whole project successfully. If I would not
have developed my capabilities to manage and lead the individuals working on the simulation
game project then it would have resulted in failure in attainment of the goals. Apart from this, all
the team members were very supportive and their high level of support and engagement in their
work resulted in successful completion of whole project and accomplishment of all the difficult
tasks that are related to it. If the group members would not have supported me then it would have
been very difficult for me to accomplish the predetermined goals successfully (Liphadzi,
Aigbavboa and Thwala, 2017).
TASK 2
Evaluation of contribution to management simulation game
Experience is defined to the process by which a conscious organism perceives the world
nearby them (Geithner and Menzel, 2016). Simulation game is a game that have business
environment which lead towards training players with business kills as well as evaluating
performances of players. These types of games were my favourite games as they teaches about
understanding among players, team work together with creativity. They includes exercises and
practices which are quick and easy as situation demands. Within AXIOM, I worked as team
leader wherein I was having responsibilities manage simulation game and motivating team
addition to ensuring success in the game. It is also a strategic game which is only meant for
business people in order to think sharply as well as quickly for engaging within problem and
making effective use of team for search for accurate solution.
While working in the game, I achieved favourable experience as I managed team players
effectively which developed a positive feeling to guide and influence a team for simulation
game. In the game, I implemented my all the skills and abilities that increased my motivation to

work of different types of projects and adds them in my experiences for future career. I was
endeavour to manage practices and tactics of players along with developing spirit among them to
gain success. I also improved my skills, capabilities and knowledge about managing people
which I can use in distinct simulation games (Wardaszko, 2018). My working in management of
simulation game were limited to scheduling workings, managing time in different activities,
improving performances of players in continuous manner, maximising team utilisation and
improving contributions of entire team in making the game successful in the markets of Turkey,
Asia, Belgium, China, The Netherlands, UK, Malaysia, Germany, Surinam, Canada, Japan etc. I
also contributed my efforts in leading team through using different leadership and management
theories, concepts and models which helped me a lot in developing desired experiences.
In my working as team leader to manage simulation game in AXIOM, there are various
thing whose attempts were easy while some practices were hard to worked on. The easy
workings was to lead team members in working in coordination for achieving success to win the
game. The other easy practice was to apply my leadership concept of situational leadership in
which I adopted leadership styles that are based on pertaining situation (Buil, Catalán and
Martínez, 2019). For instance, when opponent players have attacked the team, in this I used
some codes and strategies that I learned in other games and this was one of my effective
decision. In this situation, I motivated the team players for remaining in game for longer duration
and achieve success by making rivals loose. This encourages all the team members and
stimulated them to concentrate on strategies or tactics which players of opponent team uses and
then defeat them with coordination and useful tactic. Addition to this, I also adopted democratic
management style as to engage team members in decision making and making them feel that
they are crucial for the simulation game. With this style, I experienced positively as I learned lot
of new things and good ideas related to managing team and game. The other thing that was easy
for me as team leader is to manage workings of individuals as all were highly motivated and
skilled to perform operations and achieve success in simulation game.
In the simulation game, there are various things that I experienced as hard to initiate or
control. One is implementing any change in practices of game. It is because team members resist
any changes as they are comfortable in playing according to old habits. So, to make them agree
on change was hard for me as team leader in AXIOM. Along with this, coordinating efforts of all
players was also hard for me as different players have different objectives and area of interest to

play in simulation game (Yin, 2020). To coordinate workings of all members was hard in my
consideration. I also think that allotting tasks in the game was also hard as I have to allocate
workings and resources as per specifications and capabilities of each individual. When I was
allocating workings, there were many members who though that I allot work by doing biasses.
Furthermore, the hardest thing was communication between me, team members and higher
authorities because of presence of several communication barriers that are physical, language,
cultural etc.
When leading a team in simulation game, disagreements have huge chances to arise
among team members and higher authorities. In my case, information overload was one of
encountered problem in communication with others. According to me, too much information in a
message makes receiver overloaded. While performing role of team leader in AXIOM, I had to
send messages that are too long and included too much information which causes issues in
communication which team members. In initial period of simulation game, I was leading hour
long lectures which zone out various members as they were overloaded with huge information
that was received by them (Kriz, 2017). The other communication encountered by me was
emotional interference. Resentment, anger, sadness along with joy are certain factors of emotions
which interfered in my communication with other within simulation game. I believe anger was
one of interfering emotion because of which I faced problem in communication. In leading
simulation game, anger and mistrust were main elements which created huge communication
problem between me and my subordinates. As an outcome, multiple members hold back to
communicate their feelings, ideas, thoughts etc with me or others.
I also faced complexities in written communication modes as there were modes including
emails and messages which were not delivered on exact time and resulted in huge
communication barriers with others. The problem arised because of non-effective internet
connection and poor understanding between me and other people (Sternig, Spitzer and Ebner,
2017). Moreover, communication through verbal modes resulted in lack of understanding to
other what I was trying to speak as different people belongs to other background and have
different language concerns. I also encountered other communication issue that is lack of
knowledge. In a game, not only receiver requires certain knowledge level for understanding
message or information, but sender should also have knowledge about subject within discussion.

I experienced that in simulation game, different people have knowledge for different subject area
and this created complexities for me to communicate with other effectively.
In AXIOM, I encountered various issues and I achieved success in solving all. In the
issue of overloaded information, I focused on prioritising important information and sharing that
only. While leading and focusing on team members, I felt that all tasks, information and decision
are not equally important. For example, I classified team members on different category or
importance of information for specific people and accordingly planned to send the information
which decreases overload of information on other people. I found that despite of sending full or
detailed information to project players, best is to share few important addition to most useful one
that will entail effectiveness addition to valuable proposition. This helped me widely to solve the
issues and lead the team for simulation game ( Maratou, Chatzidaki and Xenos, 2016).
Moreover, I solved the other encountered issue that is emotional interference by accepting
imperfections of team members and controlling discussions with them who are more aggressive
as angry people faces complexities in processing logical experiences and this limits their abilities
for accepting solutions that are offered by others. This helped me a lot in resolving
communication problem and taking lead on others. In emotional turbulence situation, I preferred
not to engross in any discussion or share something that can mislead others and makes them
frustrated or demotivated. When team members of other people shares something valuable with
me, I calmly listen and understand them which helped me greatly in solving the communication
issues with others and gaining success in phone venture.
I also made huge efforts for resolving communication issue which is verbal
communication. While leading the team, I focused more on speaking with confidence, becoming
more clear and concise, varying my vocal tone and thinking about perspectives of others.
Moreover, I also took connection of fast internet connection that delivers the message on the spot
and resolved my communication issue with others. Addition to this, I asked higher authorities of
AXIOM to hire an interpretor who have command and proficiency in various languages. This
helped me in interpreting what I said to members in their understandable language. Additionally,
taking feedbacks about what I said or communicated also assisted me in solving the
communication issues which I encountered in the project. I also felt that sending message via
wrong mode also creates troubles for receiver so I took decision to always share information
from effective mode which is suitable for all and also shares information properly or as framed.

Moreover, to resolve the communication problem of lack of knowledge, I provided training
session and development programs for team members so that they have accurate and desired
knowledge about workings to be performed in project of simulation game and develops interest
among them for all areas. Enhancement in knowledge was one of best solution for the
communication issue as this helped me to communicate all types of information with all team
members in understandable and concise manner (Moh and Zaidi, 2019).
Simulation game is designed for closely simulating real world practices or activities. In
the game, I attempted to copy multiple activities that are based on real life circumstances. In case
of real situation that is business topic of game, I would have managed all the situation in
effective and logical manner that is totally different from simulation game. Addition to this, I
would have devised new tactics as per required conditions, expand or manage the activities of
business topic of game with available resources. In the present simulation game of AXIOM, I
adopted various leadership and management theories that are democratic and situational theory
so to lead the players to win the game. But in real life situations that is business topic of game, I
will work in different manner with cognitive theory so that I can influence by team with
intelligence and experience for stress and stimulating them for creative ideas for business topic.
Moreover, I will be working in each and every player to improve their knowledge and make
them working in all fields of game that will be a different working of mine for business topic of
simulation game.
In real situation that is business game topic, I will also work differently by adopting
aspects to motivate team members. I will give them rewards as per their workings or diverse
number of interesting or successful game topic. This will encourage all to come with new ideas
and objectives for the business game topic so to attract large people to play the game and spend
more time on it. I will not only provide training to members but I personally will also participate
in different training and development activities for self development and improving my own
workings. I will reduce usage of punishments in the real life scenario and will also leave major
decision making about business of game on team members (Petri, von Wangenheim and
Borgatto, 2017). I will only emphasis on keeping look on their ways to develop and implement
decision so that they have a feeling that some one is keeping a focus or consideration on the
activities or decisions. Moreover, in this situation, I will also provide valuable supplements to
players which will keep them engaged for business game topic as well as deliver suitable picture

for the situation. I will also encounter communication problems in advance through forecasting
future or using case studies of other business games so that I can plan mitigation or solution for
them in advance. This will help me in working differently and achieving results as early as
possible.
CONCLUSION
From the above project report it has been concluded that professional development is the
process of formulating effective plans so that skills and capabilities of an individual could be
developed. It is very important for all the students to make sure that they are focused with it as it
will help them to meet all their long as well as short term goals. Apart from this, personal and
professional development in leadership and management can facilitate all the individuals to
enhance their entrepreneurial skills which can help them to run a business in future. There are
various types of leadership and management focused theories which could be applied by the
students while working on a project. These are democratic leadership and administrative
management theory. By using both of them in systematic manner it will eb very easy for a leader
to motivate and inspire the team members to contribute in the attainment or organisational goals.
With the help of such skills it will be very easy for the students to meet their strategic ambitions.
While working as a senior officer in an entity it is very important for the individuals o
understand the role of organisation’s ethics and value-based relationship upon the staff members.
With the help of it, the employees could be motivated to remain engaged in their work. Th
theoretical perspective of the theories guides the leaders to make changes in their leading or
managing style so that success in future could be acquired. Apart from this, it is also very
important for all the individuals to make sure that while evaluating the experience of an event
different elements are evaluated by them. These are the hard and easiest things that have done,
problems that are faced in communication, the way in which all of them were solved etc. Apart
from this, the experience of the tings that would have done in reality if the business would have
operated in real world. All these factors can help to share the personal experience with others.
