Workshop 2
Q.1
The famous Australian sporting figure to be researched in this question is Ricky Ponting.
He is one of the most famous faces in Australian cricket and achieved several milestones in his
playing career. He was the captain of the Australian cricket team from 2003 to 2011. He was
famous in his nickname of ‘Punter’. In his captaincy, Australia won two ICC World Cups in
succeeding tournaments in 2003 and 2007. The first one was held in South Africa and later one
was in West Indies (Cricketaustralia.com.au 2019). He has been one of the most recognized and
inspiring captains of the Baggy Green side. He belonged to Tasmania and played for them from
1992 to 2013. He also took part in several domestic cricket teams like Somerset, Hobart
Hurricanes, Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Surrey and others (Kampmark 2013).
He is notable for his winning percentage as captain in international cricket. He has played
168 test matches for Australia in which he has scored around 13,378 runs. He has also played
375 One day international scoring 13,704 runs. He made his test debut in the year 1995 against
Sri Lanka and played his last test in the year 2012 against South Africa (Cricketaustralia.com.au
2019). He debuted in the one day internationals in the year 1995 against South Africa and played
his last one in 2012 against India. He led the Australian cricket team during a time that was
called the ‘golden era’ by managing players like Adam Gilchrist, Matthew Hayden, Shane
Warne, Glenn McGrath and others. In the year 2006, he received the highest rating as he became
the most coveted batsman after scoring highest test runs by a batsman in 50 years (Kampmark
2013).

He was also the winning captain of the Australian cricket team that won ICC Champions
Trophy in 2006 and 2009. He is the second highest century scorer in the world ranking after the
legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar (Cricketaustralia.com.au 2019). As per statistics, he
stands in tbe list of international cricketers who have scored more than 13000 test runs after
Sachin Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis and Rahul Dravid. Surely, he is one of the best to have adorned
the game in Australian colors. Ricky Ponting is now appointed as the assistant coach of
Australian cricket team with Justin Langer as the head coach.
Q.2
o If customers have to be informed about the new range of paper products in stock,
social media marketing strategy would be helpful enough. In this manner, the
service providers would be able to inform their customers through various social
media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter in their official pages.
They can also opt to do this through putting up billboards in important places of
the city.
o A consultant appointed for efficient solid waste management will have to provide
all the necessary information to the local council. The consultant has to make a
survey of the city in all the streets and find out the areas where garbage disposal
facilities are not available (Kumaraswamy and Chitale 2012). Then he has to
report this to local council for allocating budget for the same. After making
arrangements in written manner, he should put up notices on walls seeking people
not to use plastics and report outcomes to local councils.
o The employees should be trained for emergency preparedness plan by making
them aware that they have to save lives of people at the first priority. They must

ensure that minimum potential is caused in manmade disasters. In natural
emergency situations, agents should be trained to evacuate small buildings at the
earliest since the space is very limited and chances of being trampled are very
high.

Case Study- Marco and Jim
Q.1
The conflict between Marco and Jim is somewhat of an interpersonal conflict. It has been
seen that Marco’s reviews have gone down and he is not worried about that. Moreover, Marco is
much worried about how he could manage his communication gaps between him and Jim, the
Regional Manager of Con Electrics. The matters of conflict arise within likes and dislikes of
Marco at a personal level. The issue of different perceptions is the biggest factor for this conflict
between the two (Spaho 2013). As the company’s top priority product is Galcore, he should sell
it for higher benefits of the company. The perceptions about sales of Jim and Marco are
completely different as suggested by the case study. Therefore, it is very clear that there is a
clash of interest in this perspective. Apparently, the organization has to sell their products for
higher sales. This has become a point of conflict for them. Marco thinks Galcore is not a good
product (Spaho 2013). However, it should not be his concern. Rather, he should think of
improving his sales figures. So, one might think that differences of values are main reasons for
this conflict. If this interpersonal conflict is not resolved, there will be difficulties in the future.

4PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE AND COMMUNICATION
As per the case study, it seems that both Marco and Jim have some attitude issues. Marco
is not at all concerned about developing his sales for the benefit of the company. He should
understand that he is being paid for that only. It is not his concern to ensure the quality of the
product. Rather he should move from his polarized position and focus on achieving common
business goals of the company. On the other hand, Jim has lost his patience primarily when
talking to Marco. He went on to clarify things from his own point of view. This is why Marco
stuck to his position as well. This conflict should not be left unresolved since it will affect the
annual sales of the organization. Marco has blamed Jim for his partiality over other account
officers. This matter should be talked about by both in a calm manner.
Q.3
Jim has asked Marco to meet him at office at 3 p.m. the next day. This meeting should be
done in a constructive manner with the aim to resolve the conflict. In the beginning, Jim was
somewhat furious towards Marco and he should point out the issues that could be problematic
for the company. It is definitely necessary for Jim to be composed before he starts making things
clear to Marco. Also, he should two or three other Senior Accounts Managers in the meeting that
signifies he is not partial to anybody. Jim should say to Marco that this experience will enhance
skills of Marco and motivate him to meet the sales targets. He should not be rude in his

approach. Rather he should encourage Marco to compete with other accounts managers to bring
betterment in his sales figures. Jim should be assertive when he would make his statements. Thus
it will be beneficial for Marco to change his position and work for the glory of achieving
business goals.
Q.4
In this scenario, it is very difficult for Marco to cope up with difficulties he is facing at
the moment. He should be clear about his thoughts and clarify them to Jim very peacefully, Ar
first he must realize that he has been assigned to that specific role with some professional
responsibilities. He has not been able to perform those professional responsibilities and he
making excuses now to escape them. This is very unfair on his part. Therefore, Marco should
apologize to Jim for his conduct on the previous day. He should say to Jim that he is very
conscious about his job role and his professional responsibilities. He should assure Jim that he
will work hard and do his best to meet the budget from next time. This will surely convince Jim
and he should also say sorry as he made obligations about his partiality towards others in other
regions.
Case Study- Patrick and Danielle
Q.1
In the case study, it has to be noted that Danielle has shown tremendous communication
skills with Patrick to understand the things that can be done. Danielle has communicated with
Patrick in a way that he can feel comfortable and do not get afraid. It is very important that
Patrick should voice his opinions and clarify on the things that are very much needed. Patrick has
responded to questions asked by Danielle. This is evidently a helpful thing for Danielle to

understand how she could accommodate Patrick, She did not interrupt when Patrick was talking
and giving his opinions (Guffey and Loewy 2012). This shows that she is a very good listener.
This will surely benefit Danielle when they will be making their plans. Danielle has never acted
very strictly so Patrick could feel at ease when making conversations. The open ended
questionnaires will let Patrick view his thoughts on what kind of accommodation he wants. The
mixing of nonverbal communication and verbal messages are interesting for Patrick to
communicate with Danielle. Patrick has been able to give details of his accommodation needs.
Thus it has become easier for Danielle to understand his demands (Guffey and Loewy 2012).
Through the entire communication, Danielle has given opportunities to Patrick to clarify himself,
thus she has come up to be a very motivating communicator.
Q.2
In the interview, Danielle has not been able to perform highly in terms of interpersonal
effectiveness. In some situations, Patrick has not been able to clarify himself and Danielle has
not responded verbally in terms of taking a proper step (Adler and Elmhorst 2012). It is a good
thing that Danielle has not interrupted when Patrick was talking to her. She found that the office
was understaffed and she had to manage several other things in this scenario. Though she used
some nonverbal languages as a part of communication skills, she was not able to convince
Patrick through her gestures (Thomas and Stephens 2015). Few communication skills shown by
Danielle have been effective enough to win the trust and confidence of Patrick. However, Patrick
was not very much relaxed when she was communicating with him through non verbal messages
(Adler and Elmhorst 2012). This is why she had failed to make proper interpersonal
effectiveness throughout her conversation. This has been one of negative points of Danielle.

Case Study- Ethics and Code of Conducts
In this case study, it has been found that there are some crucial legal and ethical issues on
the part of Jean. The ACS Code of Ethics and ACS Code of Professional Conduct can be used to
describe this situation. As a statistical database programmer, he should always make the things
on his own (Kaul 2014). The things Jean had committed are very much unethical to some parts.
It is because he should not have taken the help of project programs of his co-worker or the
commercial software. In this situation the guidelines of code of ethics should be taken on priority
basis.
Another tool that can be used in measuring the unethical approach to this scenario is
Thomas White methodology (White 2013). According to this methodology, he should always
think of some very crucial things in his mind. At first, he should understand that the effects of
this behavior on his co-worker if he came to know about this. Jean’s approach has not been
professional in this case. He might have pressures from his supervisor or boss to finish the
project in quick time (White 2013). Therefore, he should have informed his boss that it was not
possible to complete the work so fast because his commitment was to complete that project by
his own and get it published in the professional journals. As per ACS Code of Ethics, this task of
Jean was not honest and it was completely unethical. He had to seek the assistance in a dishonest
manner that could prove fatal for his profession (Acs.org.au, 2019). Through committing this
activity, it also became problematic for Jean to make an up gradation to his knowledge. He could
have upgraded his knowledge and skills only if sought to finish the project all by himself
(Acs.org.au, 2019). Jean should have told his boss that he desired to finish that project with
complete professionalism.
