Studying the concept of change in the nursing class was of great benefit to me since I
understood the different aspects, theories, and variables of change. The change theories were
quite interesting to learn about, and one of them that caught my attention was Lewin’s theory of
change. Kurt Lewin states that “If you want to understand something truly, try to change it.” I
believe this is a critical theory of promoting social change but can be destructive in cases of
profit and governmental sectors (Hoskins, Grady, & Ulrich, 2018). Lastly, the stages of mental
states equipped me with an understanding of how decisions and actions were constructed.
Ethical decisions are essential in different spheres in nursing practice. As I learned of
harm reduction, which is a philosophy associated with the reduction of harms associated with
drug use and sexual activity, I was able to appreciate its role in the community. One particular
evidence on harm reduction strategies that I desired to emulate was education & outreach. This is
because it gives the opportunity to the people to learn how to take great care of themselves
(Jamshidian, Shahriari, & Aderyani, 2018). Besides, I was able to be equipped with information
on how to process an ethical dilemma in communities hence being able to plan my actions
effectively.
The philosophical foundation of nursing is a crucial element in nursing. Being able to
learn about the philosophies and how they contributed to health care delivery was an added
advantage to me. I was able to have a clear picture regarding the theories behind nursing. For
example, Jean Watson’s Philosophy on Nursing was fun to learn since its focus was on
promoting both the welfare of other people and positivity.
The quality improvement process is crucial to every organization. I believe vital aspects
such as commitment, collaboration and improve care are essential in ensuring the quality of care
is improved. On quality improvement, I also learned that quality was only indicated by patient
outcomes since they were observable (Smith, & Johnson, 2018). The continuous quality
components that stood out for me were encouraging reporting and initiating plans.
Also, understanding the purpose of critical thinking was quite intriguing since being able
to reason requires commitment (Hoskins, Grady, & Ulrich, 2018). In the process, learning that
critical thinking was able to be used for problem-solving, I was able to structure ways to solve
nursing problems in the future. On workplace health, a program known as employee health

reviews stood out according to me. I believe this program would be crucial in meeting employees
health matters quite easily hence preventing future illnesses (Smith, & Johnson, 2018).
The leadership role of a nurse had significant impacts on me as an individual. I was able
to appreciate the role of nurses in promoting interpersonal relationships. I also believe leadership
requires knowledge to be able to behave respectfully. In the process of learning, I identified tips
for appropriate task delegation that would be key to dividing work.
Legislation and professional standards influence community health significantly
(Weberg, Porter-O'Grady, Mangold & Malloch, 2018). Therefore, I understood my responsibility
in respecting cultural safety and diversity. Also, culture is a set of policies in a system hence,
cultural awareness ensures and enables safe services to individuals concerned. In conclusion, I
believe nursing is an excellent choice since it promotes community health to clients from diverse
backgrounds irregardless on the culture.
