The Nursing and Midwifery Council is regulator for nursing and midwifery profession in United Kingdom. It maintains register of midwives, nurse and specialist community public health nurses with eligibility of practise in UK.Furthermore, it will articulate about care standards and to protect public. Nursing and Midwifery council (NMC) The role of NMC is for protecting well-being and health of public. It set standards for training, education, performance and conduct which midwives and nurses could deliver healthcare of the best quality along and consistently throughout whole career. Henceforth, its process in clear and transparent for investigating midwives and nurses which are undertaken in standards of NMC. It also provides en-surety about upgrading knowledgeandskillsandforupholdingitsprofessionalstandards(Standardsfor competence for registered nurses,2019). On basis of standards for competence which applies to field of nursing as mental health is related to professional value competencies which are demonstrated by mental health nurses. They should use multiple methods of involving people and work in such aspect which will promote positive relationship laying special emphasis on human rights, social inclusion and recovery. In simple words, it is ability of person for living self directed life with presence or absence of symptoms. Mental health nurses should understand and apply legislationfor serviceusers andgives special attentionfor protecting vulnerable people comprises complex requirements arise through cognitive impairments,ageing,longtermconditionsalongwithapproachesatendoflife (Cummings and et.al., 2018). Mental health nurses must practise in such aspect which addresses potential power which imbalances among professionals and people experiencing issues related 1
to mental health. They should have in-depth understanding related to mental health legislation with reference to treatment and care of people with these issues. They must be capable for promoting mental health and well-being as it challenges discrimination and inequalities which might arise through and contribute directly for mental health issues. In the same series, they should be involve in supervision and reflection for exploring emotional impact on practice and how it aligns to mental health legislation, value based framework and policy as well. Mental health nurses provides and evaluate care where they lead in giving evidence based, compassionate and safe nursing interventions. Further, they ensure about care as they delegate and give about person-centred and consistent with top standards. They provide support to people of all age with range of settings of care and work in partnership with carers, families and people for evaluating care is effective and objectives of care aligned about wish, preferences along with desired outcome. They givehugecontributionforcontinuousmonitoringandimprovementinqualityof treatment and care for enhancing health outcome and experience of people of nursing and care (Webb and et.al., 2018). They also contribute in role of leadership for managing and coordinating the complex integrated and nursing care needs of people at any stage of life across huge range of settings and business unit. According to standards of Nursing and Midwifery council,mentalhealthnursesshouldpractiseinsuchaspectwhichlaysspecial emphasis on therapeutic use of self. They must be capable for drawing specific range of methods for involving people of each age who are experiencing issues related to mental health. It is very important to those who develops and maintain therapeutic relationships and work with those who uses various ranges of interpersonal approach and skills to explore and creating sense of experience which promotes recovery. Mental health nurses must imply relationship building and communication skills for involving and managing distressed people through hearing voices, experiencing perceptual issues and distressing thoughts. These skills and knowledge will directly facilitate by therapeutic group with mental health issues and their carers and families. The nursing and Midwifery council ensure that the patient and member of publicare satisfied with the mental health nurses. The publicfor the mental health nurses are their patients which are suffering from various mental illness. Mental health nurses perform various roles and responsibilities(Orthwein,2017).Thenursesareresponsibleforassessingand evaluating patient's mental health.Furthermore, their roles involves care for adults and older people. It also involves community care which provide care and treatment for the community. The mental health nurses perform their duties as per the standards and regulation set by the Nursing and Midwifery Council to protect the public in order to give them the best treatment to recovers from various mental illness. The mental health nurses also provide care to the children and young people suffering from mental health 3
problems.Thementalnursestreatpatientsthataresufferingfromdepression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder etc. The Nursing and Midwifery councilin order to protect public ensure that the mental health nurses are performing their duties as per the standards set.This council in order to protect public ensure that the nurses are following the general nursing principles in relation to general and specialist surgery, child care , mental health of old etc. mental health nurses have to work in order to provide proper care for the people suffering from various mental illness (Hunter and et.al., 2015). The nurses have to report to the council about the physical and mental health of the patients and provide direct care to mental health needs of people with mental health problems. The nurses of mental health in order to provide proper care and treatment to the mental health patients have to respond to the needs of people that needs their care which includes young people, people with physical and mental health problems etc. As per The Nursing and Midwifery council nurses of mental health have to assess the patient's health to observe their recovery . Moreover, it is the duty of nurses to help the patients to take part in activities to provide relaxationto them. Furthermore, it includes giving medication and observing the health of patients to identify if the medication is working on the health of patient or not (Sercu,Ayala and Bracke,2015). According to the nursing and midwifery council the mental health nurses have to provide services to satisfy the public expectation. The mental health nurses have ton provide supportandtherapeuticinterventionstopeoplecriticalandacutementalhealth problems. It is duty of the nurses to work positively and proactively with the people that are at risk of suicide and self- harm due to their mental health problems. The mental health nurses have to design their mental services and must not treat them patients on the basis of inequality and discrimination. The Nursing and Midwifery council make sure that the mental health nurses are providing the services to the patients fairly and are not working against the ethical code of conduct as per the council.The nurses have to ensure that their work must not affect the health of the patients and its family members. The Nurses of the mental health have to follow the framework provide by the boardtoprovidetheservices tothepeoplesufferingfromvarious mentalhealth problems (Mental health nursing,2017). The Nursing and midwifery council provide support to the public suffering from mental health problems by hearing their complaints relating to the services provided by the mental health nurses andtake effective action against the careregarding the complaints to provide the public with better quality services at the care.According to the Nursing and midwifery council the mental health nursing have to maintain the confidentiality of the information relating to the health of people. The new NMC standards has shaped future of nursing with perspective of next generation as they set out knowledge and skills for nurses will learn for enabling to deliver world class care.
