INTRODUCTION
The Professional practice is replicated as conduct and work with context to
particular profession. The professions are referred as occupation with need of
prolonged duration of education and training. The present report will discuss on basis of
mental health nursing, how Nursing and Midwifery council seeks to protect the public
and to maintain care standards. The Mental health nurses care for its patients who are
suffering through mental illness, mental disorder and dysfunction. The Nursing and
Midwifery Council is regulator for nursing and midwifery profession in United Kingdom. It
maintains register of midwives, nurse and specialist community public health nurses
with eligibility of practise in UK. Furthermore, it will articulate about care standards and
to protect public.
Nursing and Midwifery council (NMC)
The role of NMC is for protecting well-being and health of public. It set standards
for training, education, performance and conduct which midwives and nurses could
deliver healthcare of the best quality along and consistently throughout whole career.
Henceforth, its process in clear and transparent for investigating midwives and nurses
which are undertaken in standards of NMC. It also provides en-surety about upgrading
knowledge and skills and for upholding its professional standards (Standards for
competence for registered nurses, 2019).
On basis of standards for competence which applies to field of nursing as mental
health is related to professional value competencies which are demonstrated by mental
health nurses. They should use multiple methods of involving people and work in such
aspect which will promote positive relationship laying special emphasis on human
rights, social inclusion and recovery. In simple words, it is ability of person for living self
directed life with presence or absence of symptoms. Mental health nurses should
understand and apply legislation for service users and gives special attention for
protecting vulnerable people comprises complex requirements arise through cognitive
impairments, ageing, long term conditions along with approaches at end of life
(Cummings and et.al., 2018).
Mental health nurses must practise in such aspect which addresses potential
power which imbalances among professionals and people experiencing issues related

to mental health. They should have in-depth understanding related to mental health
legislation with reference to treatment and care of people with these issues. They must
be capable for promoting mental health and well-being as it challenges discrimination
and inequalities which might arise through and contribute directly for mental health
issues. In the same series, they should be involve in supervision and reflection for
exploring emotional impact on practice and how it aligns to mental health legislation,
value based framework and policy as well.
Mental health nurses provides and evaluate care where they lead in giving
evidence based, compassionate and safe nursing interventions. Further, they ensure
about care as they delegate and give about person-centred and consistent with top
standards. They provide support to people of all age with range of settings of care and
work in partnership with carers, families and people for evaluating care is effective and
objectives of care aligned about wish, preferences along with desired outcome. They
give huge contribution for continuous monitoring and improvement in quality of
treatment and care for enhancing health outcome and experience of people of nursing
and care (Webb and et.al., 2018).
They also contribute in role of leadership for managing and coordinating the
complex integrated and nursing care needs of people at any stage of life across huge
range of settings and business unit. According to standards of Nursing and Midwifery
council, mental health nurses should practise in such aspect which lays special
emphasis on therapeutic use of self. They must be capable for drawing specific range of
methods for involving people of each age who are experiencing issues related to mental
health. It is very important to those who develops and maintain therapeutic relationships
and work with those who uses various ranges of interpersonal approach and skills to
explore and creating sense of experience which promotes recovery.
Mental health nurses must imply relationship building and communication skills
for involving and managing distressed people through hearing voices, experiencing
perceptual issues and distressing thoughts. These skills and knowledge will directly
facilitate by therapeutic group with mental health issues and their carers and families. In
the same series, they should be sensitive and account about impact of trauma and
abuse on well-being of people and developing mental health issues (Ross and et.al.,

2018). They should be capable for application of interpersonal skills and to take
interventions which disclose and discuss about experience for recovery perspective.
As per NMC, there should be application of personal qualities, interpersonal skills
and experience for maintaining and developing recovery focused, therapeutic
relationships with therapeutic groups and people. There should be awareness about
mental health and for sharing aspects of own life for inspiring hope to maintain
professional boundaries. The relationship must be fostered and enable with families,
careers and various other people who are significant to those who are facing mental
health issues. They should use communication skills and enable psychosocial
education, problem solving along with various interventions for coping and safeguard
with vulnerable.
Mental health nursing is a specialised field of nursing which focusses on working with
the patients to help them in their recovery. The nurses of mental health consider the
person's physical , psychological, social etc. the nurses of mental health protect the
patient suffering from mental illness (Townsend and Morgan, 2017). The mental health
nursing is regulated by Nursing and Midwifery council that seeks to protect the public by
ensuring the mental health nurses are providing proper care treatment of the mental
patients.
The council ensures that the those nurses that are fulfilling the requirement set
by the council are allowed to practice as a nurse in UK. The nursing and Midwifery
council ensure that the patient and member of public are satisfied with the mental
health nurses. The public for the mental health nurses are their patients which are
suffering from various mental illness. Mental health nurses perform various roles and
responsibilities (Orthwein, 2017). The nurses are responsible for assessing and
evaluating patient's mental health. Furthermore, their roles involves care for adults
and older people. It also involves community care which provide care and treatment for
the community. The mental health nurses perform their duties as per the standards and
regulation set by the Nursing and Midwifery Council to protect the public in order to give
them the best treatment to recovers from various mental illness. The mental health
nurses also provide care to the children and young people suffering from mental health

problems. The mental nurses treat patients that are suffering from depression,
schizophrenia, bipolar disorder etc.
The Nursing and Midwifery council in order to protect public ensure that the
mental health nurses are performing their duties as per the standards set. This council
in order to protect public ensure that the nurses are following the general nursing
principles in relation to general and specialist surgery, child care , mental health of old
etc. mental health nurses have to work in order to provide proper care for the people
suffering from various mental illness (Hunter and et.al., 2015). The nurses have to
report to the council about the physical and mental health of the patients and provide
direct care to mental health needs of people with mental health problems. The nurses of
mental health in order to provide proper care and treatment to the mental health
patients have to respond to the needs of people that needs their care which includes
young people, people with physical and mental health problems etc.
As per The Nursing and Midwifery council nurses of mental health have to
assess the patient's health to observe their recovery . Moreover, it is the duty of nurses
to help the patients to take part in activities to provide relaxation to them. Furthermore,
it includes giving medication and observing the health of patients to identify if the
medication is working on the health of patient or not (Sercu, Ayala and Bracke, 2015).
According to the nursing and midwifery council the mental health nurses have to provide
services to satisfy the public expectation. The mental health nurses have ton provide
support and therapeutic interventions to people critical and acute mental health
problems.
It is duty of the nurses to work positively and proactively with the people that are
at risk of suicide and self- harm due to their mental health problems. The mental health
nurses have to design their mental services and must not treat them patients on the
basis of inequality and discrimination. The Nursing and Midwifery council make sure
that the mental health nurses are providing the services to the patients fairly and are not
working against the ethical code of conduct as per the council. The nurses have to
ensure that their work must not affect the health of the patients and its family members.
Also, the mental health nurses have to use various recovery – focuses approaches to

care in the situations that are potentially challenging such as acute distress which can
affect the patient health adversely.
The nursing and midwifery council in order to protect t e public ensure that the
mental health nurses are treating the patients with respect, kindness and compassion.
Also, the nurses have to encourage and empower people to share in decision about the
treatment and care. Also, the mental health nurses have to communicate clearly about
the terms that the people in the care and the public can understand clearly ( Varcarolis,
2016). The mental health nurses have to work according to the rules and regulation set
by the board to work in legal manner. The Nursing and Midwifery council in order to
recover the patients from various mental health problems ensure that the nurses are
providing effective services which are helping the patient to recover quickly. The
mental health nurses provide services with safety to provide support to the public and
reduce the negative impact of services on the health of public.
The Nurses of the mental health have to follow the framework provide by the
board to provide the services to the people suffering from various mental health
problems (Mental health nursing, 2017). The Nursing and midwifery council provide
support to the public suffering from mental health problems by hearing their complaints
relating to the services provided by the mental health nurses and take effective action
against the care regarding the complaints to provide the public with better quality
services at the care. According to the Nursing and midwifery council the mental health
nursing have to maintain the confidentiality of the information relating to the health of
people.
The new NMC standards has shaped future of nursing with perspective of next
generation as they set out knowledge and skills for nurses will learn for enabling to
deliver world class care. As its regulator has introduced very innovative and modern
approach to way universities and practise partners train midwives and nurses. These
new standards reflect work of two years and developed alongside with nurses,
educators, professionals, students, charities, healthcare and patient groups through UK
(New NMC standards shape the future of nursing for next generation, 2019).

These standards are directly informed through best evidence and developed
within partnership with mothers, families and other health professionals for setting
proposed knowledge and skills for midwives of next generation. Putting families and
mothers first, their proposal had laid great focus on mental health and on public health
as well. Their objective is for equipping midwives with skills for determining individual's
health and mental health requirements of pregnancy and necessity with multi agency
and multidisciplinary teams (NMC outline plans to consult on ‘new era’ of midwifery
education in the UK, 2019).
CONCLUSION
From the above study it has concluded about the mental health nursing which is
regulated by The Nursing and midwifery Council and provide treatment to the people
suffering from various mental health problems. Also, This n essay has provided
information about the rules and regulations which the mental health nursing have to
follow in order to protect the public such as maintaining confidentiality of information etc.
Moreover, it has provided with various standards which are maintained by The Nursing
and Midwifery Council that has following the professional values, using communication
and interpersonal skills etc.
