INTRODUCTION
Professionalism deals in the aims, qualities and the conduct which helps in characterising or
marking a profession or a professional person. This also deals in calling desired and required
specialised knowledge and often intensive and long academic preparation. This report will shed
on a particular communication event in which the student is involved. Communication plays a
major role in nursing as it affects the quality of life of the patient as well as the outcomes of the
patient directly. This can be verbal as well as non-verbal communication (Watts and Nemes,
2018). Non verbal communication often involves eye contact, facial expressions, gestures, body
language, tone of voice and many more. Effective communication with the patients helps in
creating the rapport and also increase the effectiveness of the care delivered. This report will
focus on the importance of communication by choosing a specific communication event for the
patients suffering from Hypoglycaemia and will also analyse the event through various aspects.
This will be followed by reflecting upon the impact of the event on the nursing practice of the
student.
Description of the Communication Event
Communication event is basically the sequence of related communication turns in which
various communication acts are performed. The communication event chosen for the patient
given in the scenario who is 65 years old woman and is diagnosed with Hypoglycaemia is patient
education episode. Hypoglycemia is basically an adverse effect of diabetes mellitus basically for
the patients who use insulin. In this condition, it is must to communicate with the patient
effectively as she is already depressed because of diabetes mellitus and hypoglycaemia worsens
the condition (Mills, 2021). The most of the patients have fear of hypoglycaemia and its impact
on the quality of life. This is why; there is a need for communicating about the interval
hypoglycaemia. Along with this as I was placed to take care of that patient, I also need to counsel
for the prevention of the same by communicating with them efficiently. The counselling
practices must be performed by me regularly in order to analyse the mental, social and emotional
condition of the patient along with evaluating the physical condition (Xianmin, Qiuhuan and
Enshe, 2019). The communication event of patient education episode is the most important
because sometimes the patients are not aware of their own conditions and the reasons behind the
same. It is must for me at the time of placement to build strong communication between the
