PROFFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT2 Step 2: Professional Development Goals Use the space below to write a statement identifying your professional development goals. Having worked as a registered nurse for more than ten years, I have identified some professional goals I would like to achieve in the long run. The professional development goals will ensure I remain abreast for the new procedures and expectations in the nursing field. Among my professional goals is; Providing excellent care for my patients. This aims at satisfying the patients fully. The excellent care ranges from administering the medications in the right quantity, quality and time. Attending to the emotional and mental status of the patients especially those in psychiatric wards and checking on vital signs for patients among others(Zepeda, 2013). Another important professional goal is to enhance my technology skills. With better understanding of the evolving technology, as a nurse, I will be able to provide better health care to patients. I will also use technology to discern the anatomical and psychological symptoms in patients from better care. I also intend to learn something new every quarter. I want to develop means to advance on the medical techniques, learn on the recommended delivery of patient care and research on ways to engage more in technology skills. My net goal is tobecome a mentor to other certified nursing assistants as well as medical technicians. I would like to continue with my training and education to advance more in the field. I always had a passion in nursing and therefore I would like to inspire someone.
PROFFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT3 Serving in a mentoring capacity will enable other health care providers to better their care and work with competency(Werner and DeSimone, 2011). Lastly, I want to maintain efficiency. As a nurse, I am entitled to attend to many patients at the same time. Therefore, I must be able to operate me the most efficient way by practicing time- management, delegating more and multi-tasking(Pedler, Burgoyne, and Boydell, 2013). Step 3: Alignment with Social Change Use the space below to write a statement proposing how you might align one or more of your professional development goals with the University’s emphasis on social change. I would align efficiency with the university’s emphasis on social change. As mentioned earlier, as a nurse I am entitled to attend everal patients at the same time. These necessitates one to apply flexibility in the work schedules. I will have to ensure that all the patients are attended to within the time allocated. Therefore time management skills have to be applied. In so doing, I will allocate specific time to specific schedules. I will also ensure all the patients are attend to to save their lives. Another important aspect in improving efficiency is training myself on multi-tasking. I will ensure that I maximize my time to attend to all the patients who require my attention. The ultimate outcome for this goal is to complete all shifts in time and complete all the task as well in time. In addition, efficiency will inspire other medical technicians and certified nursing assistants to do their best. This will lead to patient’s satisfaction. When the patients are satisfied, the society at large is satisfied. Efficiency in my work will bring upon some positive changes in the society as advocated by the university. Feedback from the patients will help assess
PROFFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT4 if efficiency has been achieved(Archer, 2010). I will use the feedback to self-monitor, myself and determine where to work on.
