Assessment Name: Engagement Portfolio
Assessment Marks: Marked out of 10, worth 10% of unit
Due Date: 30 August 2019, 9:00 AM
Background Information
This portfolio encourages you to engage in the unit in ways that have been found
to be beneficial to your studies. It reflects the activities and behaviours
exhibited by successful students. The following pages detail what the
portfolio must contain.
You do not need to completely fill the text boxes on the next page, but you
should write at least one paragraph consisting of a few sentences. Focus on
writing something meaningful, not a word count.
Seeking Help and Feedback
Seeking help and feedback is an important part of learning a complex new skill
like programming.
In the box below, describe an occasion during the semester where you have
sought help or feedback from staff (either in person or via email or
Blackboard) regarding your work in the unit, and how you used it to further
your work and understanding.
If you have not yet sought help or feedback,
consider this a prompt or reason to do so.

Reflecting Upon Challenges
Learning a complex new skill like programming is not always an easy or smooth
process.
In the box below, describe what you feel has been the most challenging
aspect of the unit so far, what made it challenging, and how you
approached or surpassed it.
Feel free to include suggestions of potential unit
content or resources that may help people in surpassing this challenge!
While doing the Income tax program even though I understood about the
algorithm I was unsure about the fact that whether the program will run in
python as the ‘and’ syntax was unknown to me. In the first two tries in
workshop the program didn’t run and hence asked to a staff who was present
in the workshop. He corrected some syntax of the python code and finally it
showed the desired output. Also, the taxation scheme was a bit challenging to
implement as the scheme involved tax upon unit dollar excess of a certain
amount and hence no information is provided for tax upon fraction of a dollar
excess of the amount. For simplicity it is assumed that tax upon fractional
dollar excess amount is proportional to tax upon unit dollar excess of the
specified amount and this is implemented in the coding which gives desired
tax output after verification.
