INTRODUCTION
The report will analyze critical evaluation of current academic thinking on varying role of
project governance throughout stages of project lifecycle. The report will also include detail form
in which project governance will be done. Further, various stages of project lifecycle will be
described in detail knowing the measure to which all five major stages will be covered. Further,
role of project governance in project and its delivery will also be described in respect to how
project is being undertaken. This will ensure aspects of critical evaluation of each stage of
project lifecycle which will be explained in effective manner. The report will be formed
effectively and in appropriate manner as it will ensure that the project planning and project
delivery is being done to ensure the five stages of project which are being undertaken for
knowing effectively the measure of the stages for the project in appropriate manner.
MAIN BODY
Project governance
It is one of the major aspect that is related with the project and the organization. This is
related with accountability and responsibility. As every organization has various department
through which it makes perform its business operation. With the set of department every part has
its responsibility followed with accountability. In the same way with regard to every project the
project governance works (Müller, 2017). It includes the set of rules, responsibilities along with
creation of accountability. It is to be noted that there is no universally accepted project
governance because it is being made and performed as per the organization and its objectives.
Project governance would lead to assist the project to move in the direction of its objectives. it
includes all those key elements that play an important role in making the project to be successful.
It provides direction and define the decision-making procedure that will drive the project towards
its success.
Project governance also helps in framing and forming the decision which are initiated and
known for properly planning the project at each and every stage. The project governance is the
measure to which all the stages of project life cycle are measured and mentioned in detail
knowing the impact it has on the project (Müller, 2017). Governance within the project denotes
some of the major responsibilities and rules which are to be carry forwarded in knowing that how
effectively and in appropriate manner the project is being undertaken. This helps in knowing the

measure through which all the essential elements are taken into accordance for completing the
project on time and ensuring its delivery in right manner. Project governance is thus helpful in
denoting the aspects through which all major changes and execution is observed in stages of
project in effective manner possible at large scale.
Various stages of project
The life of the project is depended upon the concept on which the entire project is to be
framed and work. However, there are five general stages of every project. These are as follows:
Project initiation:
This is the first stage of project that is related with the beginning of the project. It is also
called initial business case under which the raw form of project is to be determined. It is the base
that will lead to the formation of the project. With this stage the main idea on which the project is
to be made is determined (Markosyan and Ghahramanyan, 2019). In the same way here the need
of the project is to be identified that why there is a need of any project. Project initiation also
helps in accomplishing the key characteristics which are formed and preceded with the project
steps within the life cycle of project. This includes – business case, deliverables of the project,
scope of the project, objective which are framed, the resources which are needed for the project
to be carried forwards so that the results are achieved in an appropriate manner.
Project planning:
Under this stage with regard to the project the plan will be made. This is the main stage
because without the presence of an appropriate plan the project will not be able to drive. Here the
various aspect as well as the aim and objectives in relation with the project is to be determined.
All the steps that would be required with regard to the making of plan is also made at this stage.
Project planning also is an essential step towards executing the project in an effective manner
(Pellerin and et.al., 2019). It also includes work breakdown structure, project management plan
and project scope with budget constraints within the project to be managed effectively and in
appropriate manner so that the cost of the project is framed along with the timescale which have
been formed. This will help in completing the project within pre determined timeline by ensuring
the aspects of how the timescale is being measured for the company to make the project to be
undertaken while executing the project.

Project execution:
This is the stage where the planned steps and project plan will be execute and come to
operate. As per this stage the entire planned project will move in working direction and mode.
This is the stage that will identify the success and failure of the project. Here the distribution of
roles and responsibility and creation of accountability will be made. Project execution is the step
which initiates the plan to take action and knowing when the project will be completed (Kjersem
and et.al., 2017). The execution of the project is done with the help of team development, quality
assurance activities, stakeholder engagement which can be done either on formal and informal
basis. The project execution stage also helps in providing the project deliverables which are
essential in formation of the project process. Project execution also leads the project in leading to
new stages of project lifecycle which helps in ensuring the measure of how the project is ongoing
for impacting positive value while reaching the results.
Project monitoring:
This is the stage under which the executed plan will be monitored. This stage is related
with making a comparison and monitoring that the project is being initiated and working as per
the desired and planned manner or not. All the differences will be identified along with a sense
of accountability play an important role in this stage. Project monitoring helps in analyzing the
effectiveness of how the project is proceeding towards the closure and managing the aspects
which may negatively affect the project and its scale (Arzhanukhin and Mandrovitskaya, 2020).
Project monitoring is an important step which helps in identifying the changes and modifications
which are to be done while monitoring the project. Monitoring of the project also helps in
knowing what are the essential measures which are evaluated within the project after the
executions of the project. The main aim of project monitoring is to analyze and evaluate
effectively the measures through which negative impacts of any externals resources can be
monitored and to visualize that the project is ongoing within the correct direction or not.
Controlling:
This is the last stage wherein the project will be completed followed with the controlling
aspect. Here deviation will be corrected or corrective action in relation with the deviation will be
taken. The project aims and objectives will be accomplished in this stage (Kropf, 2021).
Apart from this as per the nature and requirement of the project stages will be identified
and determined. However, the major aspect that is needed to be considered is related with the

attainment of the aim of the concerned project. it is to be noted that as per the objective and aim
of the project the concerned project will be made modified in terms of its stages and various
other modes. On the same note it is important to consider that the project governance will play an
important role in terms of making the project to work as per the desired direction along with
complying the rules and regulations.
Closure — Closure in the project life cycle is the final phase which includes one process
ensuring that the project is being done effectively and in appropriate manner. It is very essential
and important to close the project in unified manner and save a sign off or approval form for the
project sponsors, stakeholders, customers etc. The closure of the project includes -
 Delivery of the project.
 Holding a final meeting.
 Saving of the project records (Lock, 2017).
 Achievement and acknowledgement of the project is being done.
 Officially distributing the team members.
Therefore, this is the final stage which has been described for the process and knowing
and how it can help in resolving the project and making the project turn into valuable form.
Thus, closure of the project helps in denoting that the project is being closed in a positive
manner.
Role of project governance in project and its delivery
Project governance plays an important role in project right from its initiation till its
delivery. As project governance is concerned with the rules and regulations with regard to the
project that would ultimately assist the project in its working and its delivery. Project
Governance will keep ensured that the project will accomplish its aim for which it is to be made.
Project governance always ensure that the project will keep run smoothly, meet its budget, and
ensure that the timely delivery will be made along with the client satisfaction (Ul Musawir and
et.al., 2017). As per the various aspect of project the project governance works but the main role
of governance is to ensure that the project will be kept run smoothly along with meeting its
requirement. This can also be understood with the aspect that through project governance the
project plan will be move in the desired direction. Likewise, it will assist the execution stage in
the form of smooth operation through the sense of distribution of responsibilities. In the same

way with the mode of creation of accountability the project governance will ensure that the
project will deliver with no deviation and issues.
This can also be understood with respect to the role of project governance across the
various stages of the life of project. As in case of initiation stage where the project base is to be
made, the project governance would play an important role. This is because with the aspect of
project governance the project will be linked to its aim and objectives. It means through the
mode of project governance the identification and role of various stakeholders in relation with
the project will be identified. As under the stage of project initiation the concerned stakeholders
are determined which would assist the project in terms of its working so with the mode of project
governance and determination of concerned stakeholders the project will move in the direction of
success (Derakhshan, Turner and Mancini, 2019).
In the same way with regard to the project planning stage under which a plan in relation
with the project would be made, the governance plays an important role. This is because project
governance will provide the project manager and the team a desired structure in which the
project would be worked and operated. In the same way the tools that is related with managing
and controlling the project would also be determined in this stage that will assist the project in its
success (Derakhshan, Turner and Mancini, 2019). Project governance would also assist the
planning in terms of providing a sense of compliance of rules and regulations.
However, on a critical note it is to be noted that with the aspect of project governance the
activities and concern steps will be delayed in terms of lack of resources and the time
consumption. This is because the aspect of project governance requires a lot of resources and
cost which would affect the project and its execution. This impact is also related in the mode of
making the process to be complex in terms of raising of rule and restriction in terms of
performance of task of the project as per desired plan and activities. The project governance is
being critically evaluated for the negative impacts which are being faced. While governing the
project the main aim of the project is that it helps in reassuring the aspects that how the resources
are being impacted as they are in negative manner.
Likewise, with respect to the stage of execution under which planned activities will be
executed, project governance plays an important role. This is because with the aspect of
governance the project execution will be able to get operate with adequate compliance of rules
and regulation (Too, Le and Yap, 2017). Project governance will lead to play an important role

in execution of project in terms of performing the work with due compliance of rules. It will also
lead to assist the planning in terms of enabling the direction on which the entire project will
move. This is because planning also involve a set of providing direction with regard to the
project and towards its objectives.
On the other hand it is to be noted that although governance will lead to ensure the success
of the project and its plan but at the same phase it may lead to impact the planning and project in
terms of raised time and complexity. This is because the governance would include the set of
principles and rules which would create a sense of complexity with regard to the project plan that
will further lead to impact the project in terms of its objectives. This will also rise the time of
completion of project because of the involvement of various rules and regulations and
procedures (Ong and et.al., 2020). The governance in the execution stage may create some of the
disturbances which impact the project on large scale and in this manner the results have been
negatively impacting the project life cycle in which project execution is the biggest step. This
largely impacts the project and in negative manner. Thus the main aim of the project ensures that
how effectively the project can be carried forward in an proper manner to achieve the end results.
The next stage in project life cycle is monitoring stage which is signified as observing the
processes of the project against plan and taking corrective action when necessary. Constant
planning and tracking of the project is done in this stage which ensures where the corrective
actions within the project are to be taken. In this stage project governance plays an important
role. Project governance in project life cycle provides direction and mentions decision- making
procedures for evaluating the impacts it has on the project. Project governance also helps in
delivering the essential requirements of the project while monitoring the aspects of project which
are being undertaken (Hadian and et.al., 2019). The issues are being resolved in a timely manner
by monitoring the project performance and analyzing how the project was being started and
initiated at large scale. The main aim of monitoring the project governance is that how it
effectively and in appropriate manner channels and regulated the information which is being
delivered and provided in the project. The project governance is being monitored and helps in
analyzing how the project is being completed. Project governance helps in monitoring the project
in such manner that major steps in project are covered at large scale.
Apart from this, there are major aspects which are in contradiction to how the project
governance is displaying its negative influence in monitoring the project. More project failure is

observed when proper monitoring of the projects is not done and this creates problems in
assembling the project at large scale. Project governance impacts the project monitoring which
further impacts negatively on the whole project formation. Ineffective project governance
impacts the failure of projects which also disturbs the project management. This impacts the
cycle of the project which has been framed and due to this the main negative aspect which is
being evaluated is that the project monitoring is also hampered in the course of managing the
project effectively (Alaidaros and et.al., 2017).
The last stage is the project life cycle is the closure of project which helps in project
governing as it is very important to close the project with due respect to analyzing and evaluating
the aspects of how the project in totality is formed at large scale. It is an important step for
project governance to end the project successfully by effective evaluation of results which have
been achieved within the project (ATIN, 2018). Project governance becomes an important point
of consideration which helps in knowing the measures through which the project is to be closed
and this makes the project seek success with all the final results and records which are made
available through the information provided while closing the project. The project governance
also ensures that the project is being timely delivered with all the essential information provided
in the project. Also project governance, should raise the accountability so that proper end results
are archived within the project and effective measures are taken into accordance as to how the
project is being implemented.
On the contrary, the project governance also impacts the project in negative manner while
closure of the project. This includes failure in the end of the project which makes fails in
achieving the results if the project is not governed in proper manner (Pratt, 2018). It is to be
ensured in the project that the project governance is done in appropriate manner so that while
project closure there are no risks which are involved further. Project governance also may fail in
achieving the positive end results and might include the negative outcomes which may impact
the progress of the project.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it can be concluded that project governance is one of the major
aspect that is related with the execution of the project. In the same way it is also understood that
project governance will enable the direction and a set of rules that will lead to ensure the success

of the project. As a project would bear a set of certain stages under which governance would play
and an important role right from the initiation of the project till its end. This means with the
aspect of accountability the project governance will ensure that the concerned personnel will be
accountable with respect to their action that will further contribute to the success of the project. It
is also concluded from the above project that all the stages of project lifecycle helped in
delivering positive and negative impact on the project while its governance also known as project
governance. This also enabled in knowing that how critically by the stages of project lifecycle
were being evaluated and discussed in the report.
