1PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Initial Post
Hi All,
This week, I have been asked to reflect on and discuss about a company of my choice and the
projects it has undertaken or is currently undertaking. Now, there are thousands of companies to
choose from around the world but for convenience and everyone’s knowledge, I am choosing
Amazon as it is a very well-known company to all and it is also a company with global presence.
Since its inception, Amazon has undertaken numerous projects as a part of its continuous
improvement process that helped it to become a global brand within a very short period of time.
In this post, I will discuss about one of the projects Amazon is currently undertaking with the
expected delivery date to come within 2 or 3 years. This project of Amazon is based on the
development of a robot that will be used for domestic purposes. This new robot will benefit the
people as it will be able to perform various activities at home. For staffing in this particular
project, Amazon has deployed some of the most qualified scientists through a detailed
recruitment process and screening. Amazon always expects some best quality outcomes from the
staff and hence, detailed screening process is undertaken. The screening process includes a
number of examinations as well as interviews for selection of very few but bright scientists who
will be able to fulfill the Research and Development output requirements of Amazon. The
advantage of this recruitment process is that only the best of the best are chosen and one
disadvantage is that too much time is wasted on recruitment while only a few are recruited.

Hi Vanya,
I have read your post and I agree with most of the points you have stated but there are also some
points that I do not agree with. Firstly, you stated that it would have been better if the Project
Manager was allowed to choose the team in order to form better team chemistry within a shorter
team but I think even if the PM was allowed to recruit, same time would have been consumed for
developing team chemistry. What I mean to say is that it does not matter who chooses the team;
it is always the duty of the team manager to develop team chemistry while working on the
project. Again, you stated that it is the responsibility of the PM to ensure all the team members
are committed to the project. However, as per my opinion, this is not absolutely correct – the
idea of commitment is mainly personal and the PM cannot make commitment grow out of
somebody at any point of time. The PM can only encourage the members to grow their sense of
commitment towards the project they are currently working on.
