PROJECT MANAGEMENT2EXECUTIVE SUMMARYThe report will state the background of the problem and the present situation of the XYZ limited of the mining industry. It will state that what are the major issues which are to be dealt by the new appointed CEO within a given time period of three months. The report will further state the strategic priorities of the company after the joining of the new CEO. There will be a current strategic plan of the mining company which will show the strategies which are used for the maintenance. Further, there will be a strategic maintenance system which is used by the other companies in the mining industry. And there will be a construction of management strategies for the company in order to implement the effective maintenance system. Further, the constructed strategies will give the outcome and delivery mechanisms.Therefore, it is very important for the company to have effective maintenance system in order to protect the equipment from failure and this helps in increasing productivity with minimum cost. The implementation plan is also given in order to help the CEO to develop effective maintenancesystem in a given period of time.BACKGROUNDThe XYZ limited is a heap leach copper mine industry of the mining sector. The company is in existence from the past 20 years. The company is facing the breakdown with more than 50 percent, and this is impacting the availability of the tools and equipment. Maintenance is one of the major problems for the company and the cost incurred in repair is very high. The company is facing the problem of controlling and monitoring the cost of maintenance. It is believed that the cost incurred in maintenance is half of the cost incurred in operations annually. As it is very important for a company to control their maintenance cost otherwise, it will incur a huge cost in future for the company, and it would not be possible for the company to control the maintenance.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT3This problem of maintenance is creating an issue of wear and tear of the tools and equipment, and this makes them obsolete. Therefore, it is very necessary to take some measures in order to control the cost of maintenance. As the maintenance plan is very necessary for the company in order to survive.STRATEGIC CONTEXTThe mining company should stick to the main motive of the organization at present. The objective is to increase the production and reduce the cost of operating and also by reducing investments. It is very important to control the cost of maintenance in order to protect the tools and equipment from wear and tear which would further result in the failure of the equipment. It is also being researched that there are two types of failures i.e. age based and random based. Therefore, some equipment fail at the early stage of the production and some are used for a longer period of time. The duration of maintenance of equipment should remain minimal. And there should be a strategic plan in order to check the frequency and cost of maintenance.OPERATIONAL CONTEXTThe mining company believed that there is no need of repairing the equipment, and just replace them with the new ones. The company doesn’t have a clear vision of what equipment to replace and what equipment requires repairing. And this further causes the failure of the equipment because of wear and tear. The maintenance of equipment is done properly if the required type of resources is identified, there is a proper detail of parts which are being ordered and issued, bills of the materials are completely developed, etc. therefore, all these things would protect the equipment from failure (Horbery et al; 2016). This is to be done when the machines are in use in order to avoid wear and tear of the equipment. The mining company can also use various methods in order to prevent the failure of the equipment.
