Introduction
Undertaking basic problems such as installing a power generator at a school look simple
and straight forward; however, from experience, and considering my previous project in which
my project can be considered to have failed, any project is not so straightforward. Anything can
happen that results in the project failing or being unable to meet the required deliverables.
Projects fail for a number of reasons, among the important ons being visibility, when the people
involved in the projects do not get the right information level in a timely manner (West, 2020);
others include unclear project objectives, poor scope and resource control (Microsoft Team,
2019), poor risk management, poor quality management, and poor planning (Symonds, 2011).
Projects do not end after the project work is complete (Westland, 2018), there must be a post
project review where lessons learned are documented so that future project performance can be
improved (Aziz, 2015). This paper will provide a review of the past project that encountered a lot
of challenges. In line with the requirements of the PMBOK and other project management
institutions, a review of the project and why it encountered problems and ultimately failed to
meet its objectives are discussed in this paper. After a statement of the problem considering the
past project, a possible solution to overcome the challenges is proposed. A plan for managing
stakeholders is also discussed as well as the required logistics for the project. The project then
concludes by creating a workable project plan. .

2019), poor risk management, poor quality management, and poor planning (Symonds, 2011).

improved (Aziz, 2015). This paper will provide a review of the past project that encountered a lot
of challenges. In line with the requirements of the PMBOK and other project management
institutions, a review of the project and why it encountered problems and ultimately failed to
meet its objectives are discussed in this paper. After a statement of the problem considering the
past project, a possible solution to overcome the challenges is proposed. A plan for managing
stakeholders is also discussed as well as the required logistics for the project. The project then
concludes by creating a workable project plan. .

wasting time and valuable resources. Another problem encountered in this project untimely
deliveries; logistics is a serious challenge in my Country of Nigeria especially in Abuja City. The
project required a truck to be hired and there were delays in delivery; exacerbated by bad roads
in the country. Poor logistics management has serious cost and time implications for any project
(Tarei et al., 2018). The third major challenge experienced in the previous project was human
resources; employees were unreliable with some missing work while others lacked the requisite
skills for the successful delivery of the project. Human resources management is one of the key
pillars for project success and if poorly managed puts the success of projects at risk (Aga et al.,
2016). these problems led to an overall failure of the project.
Proposed Solution to the challenge
The challenges faced in the project are serious and significant, and requires innovative
solutions aligned with best practice standards with respect to project management. The first step
is detailed project planning, starting from the initiation phase; it is especially important during
the user requirements elicitation. Getting the user requirements right is an important step in
ensuring successful project delivery and that the delivered project will be accepted by the client
(Mahnot, 2020). Getting the calculations wrong dealt a major blow to the project. To overcome
this challenge, the project will be visualized step by step, and the right personnel hired to get the
correct load calculations (Invensis Learning, 2020). Getting an experienced person with the right
tools and equipment will help ensure the calculations are gotten right so that the right generators
requisitioning of the wrong generator. Usually, one failure in technical projects, such as wrong

The problem of logistics will be solved by using project management guidelines that
include developing a good pan during the logistics planning phase. In addition to having a
suitable plan, a ‘Plan B’ will be developed where an alternative plan is put in place to ensure the
deliveries arrive on time. A flexible time allowance will be given for the logistics, with clear
expectations and all stakeholders related to logistics engaged, with the informed stakeholders
(developed based on the RACI matrix) (Goulden, 2017). The project will be undertaken with a
lot of collaboration to guarantee its success (Oppong et al., 2017). The HR problem will be
solved through the use of an elaborate process starting with hiring to training and management of
the human resources to be used in the project (Keegan et al., 2018). the project will be managed
based on the PMBOK guidelines for manage human resources with a focus on the key processes
of planning HR management effectively, acquiring the project team, developing the project team,
and managing the project team (Roseke, 2017). The hiring process will particularly be rigorous,
and for this project, local trade and professional associations of the required professionals will be
contacted to get qualified people to interview for the various tasks; there is a higher chance of
getting professionals with the right skills, attitude, and work ethics

This capstone project should benefit me (the author) in learning from mistakes on how to
effectively manage projects, other project managers and people involved in managing projects.
They will get important lessons and strategies on how to deal with risks to project success and
ensure they are able to deliver projects more successfully in the future. Future executive sponsors
and clients are the other stakeholders that will benefit from improved project delivery as a result
of reading content that this capstone will contribute.

would be used in hiring employees. This would be done to ensure only experienced, skilled and

method of hiring personnel as there will be fewer CVs to go about hence resulting in shortening
of the recruitment process since the only requirement is interviewing the referred candidate. The
work involved in the installation of the generators would not run for a very long time hence it
will be prudent to avoid a length recruitment process (Fan, 2018).
On the off chance that one need to experience the way toward setting an ad and
presumably having an organization do the enlistment procedure for one, it will cost one a great
deal of cash. This is an exorbitant procedure and regardless of whether one do one’s own inward
