Based on your current understanding of global project management, critically analyse particular personal traits or competencies that are important for project managers to possess in order to be most effective? Personality traits or competencies are very much important for the successful completion of a project within the budget and time period allocated for the project. The qualities of a project manager are very much importantto deal with criticalbusinessconditions, such as the unavailability of the resources which are often found in the projects (Lloyd, 2016). The primary attribute of a project manager required in the project is theirleadership and communication skillwhich are very much important to deal with the complexities coming from both the internal stakeholders of project such as the investors of the project as well as from the external stakeholders such as the supplier of the raw materials. Thevision of the project managersis also very much important in complex projects. Each of the stakeholders of the project has to be managed by the project managers using their negotiation and decision making skills.Team building skillis the other personality trait of a project manager which is needed to balance the team members of the project (Lounsbury et al., 2016). The balance of a team is maintained by both years of experience in the same industry, educational qualifications of the candidates and the priority of the main stakeholders of the project in terms of the designation.Interpersonal skills and problem solving attitudeare very much important for the project managers in order to deal with the project management. However, in spite of having these skills, there are complexities in a project when the resources are starved, these kinds of complexities can effectively be solved by the project members of the team itself. 2PROJECT MANAGEMENT COMPETENCIES AND PROJECT SELECTION impact on the completion of the project in a few instances which requires the effort from the other team members to deal with the issue. Thus, there are different categories of project competencies involved in a project which has to be well dealt by the project managers in order to complete the project within the deadline. 2. Briefly describe a project of which you are aware, either through personal experience, observation or from your own research. Explain the methods that could appropriately be used in project selection and their processes. Considering my personal experience and observation, the methods used in the IT projects will be explained in this unit of the paper. The IT projects which are generally considered in the of the IT organization are either outsourcing project or insourcing. The outsourced projects are projects which comes from outside the organization (Kerzner, 2018). The IT organization which I used to work for used both insourcing as well as outsourcing projects. The outsourcing IT projects used to come from different types of freelance websites and the insourcing projects used to come from the agents of the organization. The selection method which can be used for any categories of projects may depends upon the following categories: ï‚·Educational qualification of the candidates. ï‚·Background of the candidate. ï‚·Post for which the candidate is applying for. ï‚·Total experience of the candidate within the same industry. ï‚·Nature of the job.
3PROJECT MANAGEMENT COMPETENCIES AND PROJECT SELECTION The platforms which can be selected by the business organizations for the selection method are as followings: ï‚·Job portals with the involvement of the third party. ï‚·Direct recruitment based upon reference from an existing employee. The selection of the IT projects depends entirely on the vacancy of the IT designer and the IT developers who have years of experience working on IT projects. The role of a project manager is very much important in the outsourcing project as there are stakeholders outside the country as well. Latest software and hardware are required for the designing and the development of the software and the websites (Binder, 2016). Demos and mockups are required to be given to the end users of the projects which requires special software, the role of the project managers are very much important in giving the mockups and demos. The methods and the systems used in the IT projects depends entirely on the cash flow from the clients of the projects (Morton, Keisler & Salo, 2016). Milestone payments were accepted for the IT projects which are used for each of the phases of the developmental cycle. Thus, the role of the project manager isvery much important for both the outsourced and insourced IT projects.
