The social media is used by the employers to screen 37% of the potential job
prospects according to a recent survey. The things we post online or in social media sites are
often seen by potential employers. This can be an advantage or a disadvantage depending on
the type of the post. For example, if I write a post about my interest in big data analytics
along with an important article I have written for an online tech blog, this may attract the
attention of possible recruiters that comes across my post and may call me for interviews if
they like the article.
On the flip side, if I post an inappropriate or provocative photo or post, this may be
seen by a potential recruiter who may reject my profile outright even though I am qualified
enough for the job. This can have adverse effect on us. A survey conducted reported that 34%
of employers rejected potential candidates based on the inappropriate posts done by those
candidates on social media sites.
