Appraise the attributes you would expect the planner and programmer to have obtained during the course of their careers? The goal of a planner and a programmer’s career is to attain attributes that will be essential in enabling them to effectively manage projects that come their way and through experience become great and useful leaders in their field. The position of a planner and a programmer is the most demanding position in any project and thus, a project planner and programmer need a significant number of leadership skills as the project develops from the project in planning stages through the initiation until project completion. The planner and the programmer must be able to keep up with the changes that are happening to the project. Communication is a crucial element in project management that project planners and programmers must have to remain valid(Dahie & Osman, 2017). Project planning involves constraints such as time and costs and thus, project planners and programmers must be competent in following the set timelines and budget. It is also the work of a project planner to make vital and critical decisions at various steps of the project. Every decision made has direct outcomes on the project and the team members. The following sections describe the key attributes of a project planner and programmer in detail. Time management - Time and cost are constraints in project management. Proper management of time enables the planner and other stakeholders such as the project manager to keep track of the project and ensure that it is done in the given schedule and under the stipulated budget. Practical communication skills - Successful project management requires that a project planner and a programmer have excellent communication skills that will enable them to inspire all stakeholders from the start to the completion of a project which helps the project planner and
the programmer to gather support for the project by focusing on team goals and successful completion of the project(Greenberger, 2016). Strong leadership skills - If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail and thus, strong leadership skills are required when you hold the position of a project planner or a programmer to ensure that the project starts and completes successfully. Good decision-maker - Decisions that are critical need to be made from time to time as the project progresses. Project planners must be able to make essential decisions for a successful outcome(Szafranko, 2017). Technical expertise - There are several technical skills that project planners and programmers must possess to be able to accomplish their tasks effectively. For instance, they need to be able to use the software for project management as this software program can help them to better organize the various phases of the project, view chats, and generate reports in a short time. Team building skills - Team building, problem-solving and conflict resolutions are some of the team-building skills that are required in project planning and programming. Team skills will enable planners and programmers to handle any issues or problems that arise throughout the project(Ruissen & Zumbo, 2017).
