1PROJECT MANAGEMENT
The project was based on discussing about the use of different forms of project
management tools and techniques that would be made use of during the defining of the
project. This project was based on understanding the scenario of performing a work of repair
over the Beachside Cottage, which would prove to be beneficial for the owners of the
company who have proposed the project. During doing this project, I have made use of the
concepts of project management to define the criteria needed during the project.
The project management carries out three methodologies which are Work Breakdown
Structure, RACI Chart and Gantt chart. I will evaluate the project management
methodologies required for repairing the old beachside cottage.
I created a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for repairing a beachside cottage. In
order to create a WBS, I determined the major deliverables of the project and also the work
packages required for the project. I assigned 2 hours of time for signing off the charter. For
purchase supplies I assigned 3 hours on 1st of June. I assigned 3 days for repairing jobs.
Repairing jobs will include repair jobs of wooden porch, repair of the wooden floor and
repair of wooden shutter (Lutchman 2016). 5 hours of time was assigned for repairing
purpose of wooden porch. 8 hours of time was assigned for repairing of wooden floor as
wooden floor repairing was a very difficult task. I assigned 4 hours for wooden shutter
repairing. According to the WBS, I assigned the time span of 3rd June to 8th June for painting
job. Ceiling painting took almost 5 hours. External and internal wall painting should take 5
hours each. I assigned 5 hours a day for painting job of shutter. Painting of door took 4 hours.
The refinishing job of the cottage was also very important (Golini, Kalchschmidt and
Landoni 2015). I assigned 3 days for refinishing job of sand floor, seal floor and porch. The
washing of interior and exterior windows took 2 hour each on 11th of June. Hanging job of
shutter and curtain took 4 hours each on 11th and 12th of June. Final inspection is very
important and it took approximately 4 hours on 12th of June.

2PROJECT MANAGEMENT
RACI chart is responsibility assignment matrix. The four key responsibilities of RACI
are Responsibility, Accountability, Consultancy and Information. I also created a RACI chart.
In the RACI chart I gave the responsibility of signing off to the project manager and the
contractor was consulted for signing off. I informed the apprentices, the resource supplier, the
local resident and the Council about the signing off charter. The purchase of the supplies was
accounted to the resource supplier. The apprentices were informed about the purchase of the
supply. Contractor was responsible for the job of purchasing supply. Project manager was
consulted for purchasing supply (Moran 2015). The job of repairing the wooden porch was
accounted to the contractor and project manager was responsible. Apprentices-2 was
informed about repairing of wooden porch. Apprentice 2 was responsible for repairing the
wooden floor. The contractor and the project manager was accounted and consulted
respectively for the job of repairing wooden floor. Resource supplier was responsible for
repairing the wooden shutter whereas the contractor was accounted with the same job and the
project manager was consulted. Apprentices 1 was accounted with the job of painting
external wall (Harrison and Lock 2017). The contractor and project manager was responsible
and consulted respectively for the job of painting external and internal wall. Painting of
internal wall was accounted and responded by apprentices 1. Painting shutter was responded
by manager, informed to contractor and accounted to apprentice 1. Project manager was
responsible and conducted the job of painting door. Refinishing seal floor was informed to
manager and contractor was responsible for this job and apperentice2 was consulted (Lock
2017). The job of refinishing porch job informed to, manager, accounted by contractor.
Hanging curtain and hanging shutter was informed and consulted by project manager and
contractor respectively and apprentice 2 was responsible for both of these jobs. Contractor
and apprentice2 was informed and assigned for washing exterior and interior window. Final
inspection was informed to the local resident and council.

3PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Gantt chart is a kind of bar chart which can illustrate project schedule. The tasks
which are to be performed will be on vertical axis and the time will be on horizontal axis. In
the Gantt chart for this given job of repairing cottage many task were assigned in due dates.
The repairing job started with signing off the charter on 1st of June in Monday and continued
for 2 hours. Purchase supply started on Monday and half of the job was completed in 3 hours.
Repairing the wooden porch took 5 hours and only 20% of the task was completed (Siami-
Irdemoosa, Dindarloo and Sharifzadeh 2015). The whole painting job of ceiling, external
wall and external wall took 5 hours each but the job was not completed within time. The job
of refinishing was also not completed in due time, rather 0% of the job was done in the due
time. Washing job also took 2 hours each but 0% of the job was completed. The incomplete
jobs created problems as the work was behind schedule.
According to the discussion supported from the research, it has been helpful for me
and my team members to understand the ways in which a project could be managed
(Meriyem, Adil and Hicham 2015). I and my team members were extremely satisfied with
performing each of the aspects of the project. Each of the aspects that are discussed in the
project were discussed within my team members. We have made use of several academic
journals to understand the concept of project management. Based on performing the project
work, I have concluded that these kind of concepts would have been highly helpful to design
work over future projects (Kostalova, Tetrevova and Svedik 2015). I feel happy to share my
experiences with the working of the team. Each of my team members were extremely
cooperative and were highly helpful in designing of ideas for the project. Thus with the help
of working over the project, I have been highly benefited to learn new concepts in relation to
project management, which would be helpful for the future aspects of working on other
projects.
