Week 9 Topic:
Applying Project
Management
Standards and
Frameworks.
Collaborative Project
Procurement
Arrangements
(2015) by Derek H. T.
Walker and Beverly
M. Lloyd Walker;
There are various
methods that have
been defined for
project’s execution,
conflict resolution,
management of
stakeholders among
others. These
methods are going to
be based on the
guidelines specified
under PMBoK, Agile
Project Management,
Waterfall and
PRINCE2 among
others. The methods
for negotiation may
include written
contracts, one-time
negotiations and
stand-offs.
There are various project management standards in the use today. However,
not all are utilized for a project and one may choose a particular methodology as
per their own convenience, project demands and use. Some of these popular
methodologies includes PRINCE2 standards that means Project in Controlled
Environments and PMBoK which means Project Management Body of
Knowledge, Agile Project management, Waterfall method and countless others.
Agile for instance provides managers with the ability to carry out projects in
iterations whereas waterfall methodology is the simplistic methodology that
allows for development of project in phases.
Apart from this, commercial negotiations are impacted directly on the basis of
which methodology is choose. For instance, Agile allows for a rapid and frequent
two-way communication where the negotiations may change from time-to-time
whereas on the other hand PRINCE2 and Waterfall method demands stricter
form of negotiations.

The conclusion given in the chapter 7 is reasonable as I includes various aspects
that are associated with project management. Accordingly, I have also come
across a ‘PraXitioner’ and this particular chapter also helped in explaining how
to become a ‘PraXitioner’.
Currently there are shortages for a good ‘PraXitioner’ in terms of commercial
negotiations and in order to avoid such situations they would be provided with
training in order to improve their negotiations, inter-personal skills and various
other competencies.
The Authors of the Walker and Walker book have covered some key aspects of
project management as well as negotiations and the ideas presented by them
are relatable in real-world scenarios. Also, RBF is a good framework for
commercial negotiations as their approach is in line with strategic plans and
policies that help the organizational point of view.

approval of all the
parties involved.
Ideas put forwarded in chapter 7 has helped in the understanding of various
commercial project negotiations and has further aided in the development of
plan and policies around successful execution. This week’s topic is related to
previous week as it discusses more in-depth about project management
especially about project negotiations as well as conflict resolution.
