INTRODUCTION
Poverty is related to individual living conditions as well as an inability to meet basic
requirement because food, drinking water, education, health and many more social services are
inaccessible (Bartlett, 2017). In simple term, poverty is hunger and lack of shelter. This
assignment is based on, poverty in women as it will discussed through two theory i.e., feminists
and Marxist. In addition to this differences as well as similarities will be explained within both
the above mention theory on the basis of poverty in women. Report will going to discuss major
issues as well as its solution related to poverty in women's. There are several theories which will
going to be discuss within it.
PART 1
Section 1:
Feminization of poverty is an phenomenon referring to gap within women and men
caught in sequence of economic deprivation as well as scarcity. Most of the people believe that
feminist theory focus on women and girls only exclusively. But it is an inherent goal which
promote superiority of women's over men's. In addition to this, this theory in real terms always
view about social world in the manner which illuminates forces that creates as well as support
injustice, inequality, oppression and so on for promoting pursuit of equality and justice. This
theory promote women’s and give them priority so that poverty among them can be remove and
better advantages will be provided (Gimenez, 2018). Thus, feminist theory mainly pays attention
towards women’s and girl’s as well as make efforts for them to come out of situation and provide
them better services.
Section 2:
According to the views of Marxist theory reason for poverty as well as social exclusion
because of several reasons such as anti-racist, postmodern as well as religion. In simple words,
poverty mostly occur in the society which accept unequal treatment but by some of the scholar it
has been said that there is no relation within poverty and inequality. For instance, wealthy
businessman or government officer or teachers are unequal but teacher and officer both are not
poor. Thus, poverty and inequality is not reason for women poverty. In addition to this,
inequality is relative concept and poverty is an absolute one. Because for poverty it is possible to

decline whereas, inequality get increases due to income growth of rich people segment which is
relatively more.
Section 3:
Marxist has argued that poverty in women exist within society because of class system and
this result in differences within poor and rich women’s in surroundings. Main reason behind this
is worker and ownership of production result in differences (Gimenez, 2018). Women who are
workers must thus liberate themselves from class system to end such poverty issues within
women’s which can be possible through economic equality. On the other hand, Feminists also
argue that poverty exist within women because of patriarchy, dominance of men as well as issues
within women’s and men’s. In addition to this, women’s and patriarchal constructs. Moreover,
women have to liberate themselves from patriarchy for ending issues related to poverty among
them which can be possible through sexual as well as gender equality.
Thus, in simple term, Feminism promotes equal rights for women within the area they are
lacking because of different cultural practices. Such as, right to own property, receive education,
right to travel, right to select how they want to live and many more. On the other hand, Marxism
is a political as well as economic system that government owns major industries and method of
production process (Gimenez, 2018). Thus, there are wide similarities within these two above
mention theory at the point of women’s poverty. Authors of Marxist and Feminist both have
share their view point on this common topic and that are same.
Section 4:
Marxist feminism is feminism which focus on investigating as well as explaining the way in
that women’s are oppresses through system of capitalism and private property (Evans,2015). As
per the view point of Marxist feminists, women’s liberation can only accomplished through a
radical restructuring of the current capitalist economy in that, they contend more and more
female labour in uncompensated.
Feminist theory in Sociology is major branch of theory within sociology which shifts its
assumptions, analytic lens as well as topical focus away from viewpoint and experience of male
and towards of women's. Within this theory, feminist theory shines light on social issues, trends
as well problems which are overlooked by historically dominated male. There are some key
areas focus in this theory which involve discrimination and exclusion which are on the basis of
sex and gender, structural, objectification, economic inequality, gender role and many more. On

the other hand, Marxist theory on poverty is according to this theory reason behind poverty as
well as social exclusion come from several theoretical approaches which involve anti-racist,
religious approach and postmodern. In addition to this, Karl Marx believes that society is divided
within within those who have means of producing wealth as well as another are those who do not
giving rise to class conflicts. This theory states that, poverty is beneficial for ruling class and
within society there are always some workers who will to accept low wages. Thus, all these
result in rising poverty within society as poor people are at same stage and rich are getting more.
As per the view point of Marxist feminists, women’s liberation can only accomplished through a

CONCLUSION
From the above discussion it has been concluded that, poverty is the major issue in which
individual is not able to fulfil their basic necessities such as food, clothes, shelter and many
more. There are mainly two theories which cover poverty such as feminists and Marxists. But
these two have some different view point as well as similar also. Above mention are views of
both theories that they both are in favour that reason behind poverty in women’s is because of
inequality.

Have you selected one social group?
Yes, one social group has been selected by me i.e., women because they play major role
in overall society and there are several issues faced by them. Thus, women is one social group
selected by me for conducting this research. I had selected this topic to find out reason behind
issues facing by women’s and give suggestion to overcome with such problems.
Have you selected one issue facing this social group?
As society is going through several issues such as poverty, mental illness, addiction and
many more. But one of the major issues is poverty which has been selected by me for conducting
this research. Women is the social group who going through poverty at large level and become
major problem now a days. Apart from this, from overall study it has been find by me that

women’s are facing major poverty issues because of inequality practices conducted by people
within society which result in taking poor people more and more down and making rich day by
day more richer. Thus, according to my views points to come out from such issues it is important
to provide equal treatment to everyone within society.

Thus, social issue selected by me for conducting this project is “women and poverty”. In
relation to this there are some theories explanation of these are as follows :-

REFLECTION
After going through this overall research there are several things which has identified me,
as there is requirement of knowledge about several aspects before conducting any type of
research. As I don't have much knowledge about conducting research and gathering data but after
conducting this research my skills as well as knowledge get enhance which help me in future
while doing research in more better manner. In addition to this, with the assistance of this entire
research project several areas identified by me which require proper knowledge for conducting
overall research and I don't have that. Thus, it is essential for me to work on this issue and

develop my respective skill so that in future I will work in effective manner without facing such
issues. As there are some things on that I am working for developing my research skills
explanation of these are as follows :-
 Firstly, I learnt to break overall research within manageable parts so that it will get easy
for me to understand. As well as I can identify issue related to the same and will address
it in better manner without any disaster mistake.
 Analyse topic in proper manner and study relevant material related to the same which
help me in gaining proper knowledge related to the same topic as well as finding out
solution of the research problem in more effective manner. Learning thing related to topic
will help me in conducting overall research in better manner and gaining output related to
the same in better manner.
 In addition to this, several videos are seen by me which help me in conducting research
and gaining appropriate outcome related to the same research. Videos are the best source
which help in conducting research within effective manner as well as in gaining practical
information related to the research. With the assistance of videos I am able to get better
outcomes within minimum time duration.
Thus, with the assistance of these things I am able to gain better knowledge related to
conducting research as well as it will help me in gaining more effective outcomes. In addition to
this, with the assistance of this entire research project several areas identified by me which
require proper knowledge for conducting overall research and I don't have that. Thus, it is
essential for me to work on this issue and develop my respective skill so that in future I will
work in effective manner without facing such issues. Thus, it is important for me to develop my
research skills because this will help me in future while conducting research and gaining better
outcomes.
