1. Introduction
The Istanbul New Airport (INA) has the large feature of being one of the largest
investment of infrastructure that would be constructed in a single line. The total estimation of the
project has been estimated at 10.25 billion Euro. With the building of the new infrastructure, the
INA is mostly planning for accommodating 150 million passengers. They have also planned to
expand their capacity to 200 million after the completion of each of the phases (CNN Travel
2019). The primary target of the INA is to complete their operation within four hours. Based on
the development of INA, the economic impact of the project would be measured. It would be
helpful for measuring employment, similar economic activities and expenses made during
developing the airport.
2. Discussion
2.1 Background of the Project
The giant airport at Istanbul is set to become as one of the mega aviation hub that would
be helpful for reinforcing the historical role of the country. This airport would act as a bridge to
connect the East and West. The main hub would be designed in order to handle with more than
200 million passengers at a single capacity. Based on information gathered from several sources,
it has been estimated that the airport authorities have conducted different trials in the upcoming
months based on operational preparation. The initial test would only be tested among a small
group that would consist of 9000 people and 10 planes that would be used (Yigitcanlar and Bulu
2015). The size of the new airport terminal would allow for a wide range of facilities and
services that would provide much comfort for the passengers. With the help of project
management approach, the airport management would be able to provide better solutions.

2.2 Planning and Execution of the Project Work
The design of the new infrastructure of the airport would comprise of ten different kinds
of operational and maintenance buildings that would be present on site. The entire site would be
spread over an area of 700,000 square metres. The project managers involved within the
development project had made use of agile based approach for managing the various operations
and functionalities involved within the project (Dogan and Stupar 2017). The design of the
project would be collaborated with design roles. The project managers involved within the
organisation were responsible for managing the aspects of design and review over certain roles
that were important for the project.
One part of the role that was assigned within the aspect of project management was
included with understanding the requirement, collecting of ideas and thus review over the
operational ideas. Based on the processes of project management, the project managers would
have coordinated with 30 different stakeholders. They also provided management of design and
review over the design that would be made at the new airport. The entire schedule of the project
would long for a time period of 36 months (Igairport.com 2019). There would also be an
involvement of multiple form of stakeholders and other decision makers who would recommend
changes while meeting with the expectation of the client. The use of agile based project
management approach could be mostly be based on a cross-functional teams. The project
management teams would make use of the agile based approach for managing the delivery of the
project.

2.3 Relevant factors that impacted the Project
With the introduction of the new airport design, the airport management authorities have
designed various routes and transport modalities for the purpose of ensuring the entrance and
discharge of great size of passengers who flock within the airport. The development of the new
infrastructure of INA can be considered as one of the largest investments, which would be
included among the largest projects of Turkey (Emek 2015). The team of project managers who
were handling the task of design of the airport were located in 24 countries, which were a part of
the global network.
2.4 Management of Project Risks
Risks are considered as to be one of the most important concern for the project. The
management of risks that are incurred for the airport design is more important than just
safeguarding the assets of the organisation. An effective management of the project would be
helpful for would be helpful for the realisation of opportunities within the development of the
project (Eren and Özçevik 2015). Some of the risks that might have incurred within the project is
based on scheduling of different activities within the project, exceeding of budget estimated for
the project and underestimating the other risks that might have approached towards the project.
An effective kind of management of risks would help the airport authorities for realising
the various opportunities and thus also provide an important assistance for helping the project to
remain on track.
2.5 Trials within the Project Design
After the design of the project based on the implementing a new infrastructure of the
airport, it has been seen that the training provided to the staff was very much essential. The main

trial at the airport was provided to 9000 passengers. 10 real planes were also made available in
order to conduct a series of tests. The primary reason behind the development of the Istanbul
Airport with the help of an agile based approach to increase the demand of the airport with their
high held services (Sanchez-Cazorla, Alfalla-Luque and Irimia-Dieguez 2016). The new
inclusion of facilities was highly needed as the old infrastructure was not able to support a large
number of passengers within the Airport.
Each of the project managers had designed a specific strategy that would be incorporated
for the best and world class design provided to the passengers. The new infrastructure would
comprise of a large structure of the airport (Bagis and Dooms 2014). This would also comprise
of much amount of space for the passengers that would also provide them with comfort and high
class facilities.
3. Conclusion
Based on the discussion over the project, it can be concluded that with the help of the
project management approach, it would be helpful for the airport management team to handle the
entire design of the project. The plan of the project is based on including several new kind of
factors for the benefit of the passengers. The discussion in the report focuses over the aspects of
project management that could be applied towards the project. Different flight enterprises focus
over the importance of direct connectivity to the airport. It has been discussed from the report
that the existing infrastructure at the airport would not be able to handle the excessive bulk
number of passengers who flock within the airport at regular intervals.
In order to reduce the various problems that are faced by the passengers with the existing
infrastructure, the airport authorities had decided to take the best form of measures to reduce the
