3PROJECT AND OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT
Project purpose
The purpose of the project is development of a new product for the company named
Apple Inc. Apple Inc. will launch a new smart company in order to compete with the new
products developed by the competitors in the market.
Project description
Apple Inc. is the one of global giants in the technological industry and is the market
leader in terms of revenue generation and market share. Apple Inc. has developed their own
market segment but the major global competitors have developed popular products that are
grabbing the attention of the market competitors (Apple, 2018). Therefore, this is a counter
strategy for Apple Inc. to develop a new smart phone that will belong to the same target segment
as the other products so that they can generate the lost revenue and consumers due to the new
products in the market.
Project scope Statement
According to Kerzner and Kerzner, (2017), the project scope statement is an instrument
for describing the key milestones and the major deliverables of the project. It will also determine
the different constraints, assumptions and requirements in a project. The project will develop a
new Smartphone with advanced features for competing with the rival companies. This will
consist of developing a project plan for developing and launching the product in the market.
Project Objectives
ï‚· Developing a Smartphone with the latest features

ï‚· Testing the product for reviews
ï‚· Marketing the product effectively
ï‚· Launching the product
Project Assumptions
ï‚· The stakeholders and the sponsors have authorized this project
ï‚· The purpose of the project has been communicated to all internal stakeholders including
the different departments
ï‚· Additional budget allocation will have to be initially consulted with the board and the
CEO
Project constraint
The restrictions and limitations that the project stakeholders have to deal with are the
project constraint. There are other products that will have to be developed simultaneously so
budget and time is a constraint for the project.
Project deliverables
Chow, Woodford and Lambe, (2014) states, the expected output in a project is known as
the project deliverables. The specific outcomes in each of the stages of the project have to be
defined to understand the project scope creep. The project deliverables in this project are
described below:

Project milestones
According to Heumann et al., (2015), the events having a nil duration and marks the
progress of the project across the timeline is known as project milestone. The management of the
project deliverables can be executed n a better way by identifying the key milestone in each stage
of the project. The milestones in this project are listed below:

Project schedule
The project schedule describes in depth the different task that have to be performed and
their scheduled baseline start and finish dates. This will enable to understand the allocated time
for each task and phase along with the buffer time for each of the task (Wang et al., 2014). The
project schedule for the current project is described below which shows that the overall time
span is 262 days and the project timeline starts at 27th April, 2018 and ends at 29th April, 2019.

Table 3
The majority of the tasks in the project are critical tasks except two tasks that are non
critical. They are identification of the software requirements and making the necessary changes
in the final product stages. These tasks have slack time of 5 days and 10 days so that the
resources allocation can be reduced as changing resources and time will not have any effect on
the overall cost and time span of the project.

Conclusion
The report has developed an effective project management plan where the project scope
has been described in detail. The Gantt chart shows the critical and non critical tasks in the
project where it has been seen that majority of the tasks are critical tasks. The risk register and
the quality plan have also been developed and the project of developing a new competitive
product in the market would be successful based on the report generated.
